I suffer from severe insomnia; I cannot sleep if I don't have something in the background and it's usually either documentaries or your videos (on repeat). Thank you for uploading such a long video that will be played multiple times for me!
Where you tested on ADHD? Often people with ADHD take very long to fall asleep, because their brains don‘t shut off in bed unlike in people without ADHD. With something in the background the brain can concentrate a little on that instead of having own thoughts and that helps to shut down the brain and fall asleep. I myself play game or movie video essays myself every night and fall asleep much faster that way.
@@jasonpowley4913 joseph anderson is fine and all but you dont have to get on your knees for the guy like that. he's just a youtuber. if you can even call him that, at this point.
@@jasonpowley4913 *spiteful anecdote involving age* *spiteful anecdote that makes it obvious you have a preference for another youtuber despite being this deep in the comment section of this one* Well done, you've made yourself seem younger than me with just your choice of words. Edit: Sorry just, you seemed really upset that this video was released before JA finished his, even though everyone in this comment section who pointed that fact out wasn't being mean when they said it, they were just acknowledging a true fact. Seemed weird to me that you got seemingly defensive over it when it's something JA himself stopped caring about a long time ago.
"And today, I'd like to talk about the Witcher." ...Son, you'll still be talking about it tomorrow too with how long this one is. Mad respect to you for the sheer amount of time it must have taken sifting through this series and putting these videos together.
This is the longest video of interesting and amazing content I have ever started to watch here on RU-vid. This video is going to take me at least 1 month to complete, as I drift off to your videos at night watching bits of 10-15 mins at a time before I fall asleep. Thank you so much for the effort you put into these videos! You're the best!
1:30:45 Ciri is actually mentioned in an inn keeper’s story (in Chapter IV I believe :)) But yeah, it’s really weird if it would be expected to be a consistent sequel
I know that many people may disagree but I think that Witcher 1 is the best of the three. The combat system did not bother me at all. I cannot wait for the remake!!! Thanks for the video yourfavoriteson!
I think it depends on what you look for in these games, personally I wanted to see the books come to life and witcher 1 did that best imo so I agree, but I can't deny that riding on horseback in witcher 3 and feeling the scope of the gigantic world we heard so much in the books ( novigard being my favorite city in any game ever likely) makes me appreciate them both for different reasons, and witcher 2 is for all the witcher world politic lovers. Absolutely love the trilogy though cdpr really gave a lot of love to all three and served the witcher universe a huge justice
I’ve gone through all of my audiobooks… just when I thought the work day was gonna suck, I see THIS masterpiece has dropped. You’ve literally saved my day.
I drive a lot for work so having the full retrospectives posted like this is a god send for me. It’s like having a really interesting audiobook with live commentary on the story. Can’t wait for the metal gear solid video, you make your dad proud 🤠🤘🏼
Incredible work here on all three videos. From the writing, editing, and production you provide such comprehensive work of your own making that stands in parallel to the Witcher Series. It is nothing short of astounding. Keep up the great work!
So, I've watched the entire video in two days. You really did well. I don't agree with all of your Witcher 3 criticism, but I get where you're coming from. Back then I've watched your Fable Retrospective, too, and I really enjoy your thorough essays.
@5:05:30 - never used Bombs or Potions unless a quest required it. They're just not necessary, even on Death March. You cast your shield and just use s from dodging. Nothing can hurt you.
If you planning to replay W1 at some point... try to do wyvern island in act2! First - sword is still there, second, in body of this guy you have a letter from Loyvarden (I think that's how it was written) and reveal him much faster and with a bit different outcome.
10 hours is insane. But as someone who listened to all the parts, it is SO very much worth it. Great retrospective as always, son. Not just saying that because I'm 'dad' either.
Hey son, saw you dropped this vid last night. I, your loving and encouraging father, will now spend the whole day today watching and listening. good work son
Thank you so much for the work you put into these videos, they are fantastic to have in the background when im trying to sleep (i dont mean that they are boring or anything ofc i just have severe insomnia) , keep up the good work!
Witcher in Polish is Wiedźmin but in Polish language we don't use V at all, so V sound is made by W always, while W sound is made by Ł. The DŹ is makes softer J sound. Do you can pronounce it Viejimin.
Thronebreaker was a masterpiece for what that game was aiming to be so it's criminal it flopped so bad that all other games planned in the Gwent stories were cancelled including the Iorveth one :(
The witcher games got me into the series the books made me fall in love with it but the audio books narrated by Peter Kenny made it my all time favorite
Dammn son great video! Finally finished it after a week and gotta say I enjoyed every minute of it! Thoroughly enjoyed the recaps and especially your opinions for each segment.
Important note you glossed over when talking about the riddle to defeat Master Mirror. and *spoilers* "A Mirror" is not a valid solution to the riddle; it's a red herring. The correct answer is "A Reflection" which is why the mirrors shatter upon your approach and why the advice of the dog and cat is so powerful
Many people don't understand the nuances of characters and factions in the witcher. I've seen too many videos where the scoia'tael are portrayed as freedom fighters while completely missing their borderline terrorist behaviour. They see The Order of the Flaming Rose or the Blue Stripes as like some sort of evil organization that fights them at every corner but it's just not true. Glad to see you understand the complexity of characters and factions in the witcher. Not every politician is bad, not every freedom fighter is good, people may sound very rude towards someone but you end up finding out that they're right about them, people may misdirect you and try to use you for their own gain and in my opinion one of the best forshadowings of this is the little cinematic in tw3 where Geralt cracks a treat in his hand and it's full of maggots. This is one of the reasons for my love of the witcher.
I cant wait to get out of work and game and listen to this all day. Keep up the great content and keep up the awesomeness. I love the witcher series for varying reasons so im excited to see your take
10:35:56 oh… that’s what happened… It’s not an interpretation of the books nor the games… it’s an interpretation of the limerick “Lambert, Lambert - what a prick”. And the didn’t even bother learning the few lines of context around that.
wow i actually was so busy i didnt get to start watching when you uploaded the witcher 3 vid and said i would wait for the full upload as a joke but i guess here we are
when doing the side quest where you (geralt), dandilion and Zoltan go drinking you get asked if you could stop being a Witcher and settle down would you do it? i always liked saying yes as due to the first game not giving context to Yen or Ciri marrying Shani and working as a detective / pest control ( monster hunter) seamed like the best of all out comes. i know Triss is everybodys choice but i always felt she was hiding something unlike Shani who just wanted geralt for who he was not what he could help her achieve
1:54:12 to be fair as well, I doubt banks had insurance policies, so anyone storing their gold inside was absolutely screwed. And in a time where being poor also meant death, well. If Geralt did that, he participated in the deaths of at-least hundreds. (to be fair he's probably killed much more directly, just not villagers and businessmen.)
You know… what they really should do is make an expanded edition of the Witcher 3. Have it be the same story, but with none of the old side quests and all the extra main quest content they didn’t include. Like way more with Letho and including Iorveth and much more with Roche as well as rewriting the Radovid assassination and anything else they could complete. Basically making the game they wanted to make in the first place.
I always laugh so hard when they say the name of the Squirrels, because Scoia'tael sounds a lot like "Scuiatel", which is "Scoiattolo" in the regional accent of Milan, in northern italy The point is that Scoiattolo is exactly the italian word for Squirrel 🤣 I wonder if CD Project did it intentionally
Great retrospective. I must say, I have a weird relationship with the Witcher universe. I've read the books, played the games and watched the show. I hated the show and forgot about it, to be honest. But the third game and the book series I'll simply never forget. It's not my favourite book series out there, I've read some better fantasy series, but it just stays with you. The first two books are easily one of my favourite books out there. They're a nice collection of short stories that excel at crafting characters, building the world and introducing Geralt. After the first two books, the series becomes one long continuing story. This is where the books become a mid-tier experience for me. It is by no means a bad experience, but It comes down to me liking the premise, characters and the world, but the story and its execution are just mid-tier to me. The Wicher books feel like this timeless fairytale/folk-inspired and unique fantasy that has amazing characters like Yennefer and Geralt and for those things, it stays with you. It was the first fantasy series I've read and was my gateway to other series in the genre. The games are a different story. They take what I love about the books and expand on those things. The Witcher Universe works really well in game format, in my opinion. The presentation in the games is superior to that in the books if you ask me. For all its lower moments, the series make up for it with its highs. The Witcher as a Universe is the most compelling fantasy out there.
