I have to say, tackling the Witcher universe is no small feat especially for a channel your size. I would never claim to be an expert but I’d like to mention I’ve read all the books twice. I’d like to tell you that despite your channel’s small size, you did an extremely fantastic job for the introduction to this series. I’m subscribing to follow along. Job well done!!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! It is quite an undertaking for an extensive universe with many stories but I enjoy making videos for it. Hopefully the channel grows as more content comes out!
Jesus you want an award? If its hard for a small channel to understand and explain the witcher, how did you, with no channel, even comprehend it? Whats chanel size have anything to do with it 😂
@@chasedufty2406 its more like because it takes lots of dedication to do such videos but also the possibility of barely getting views like high effort for low reward. At least thats what i understood
When you zoomed in, I realized, that "The Witcher 3" main map (Velen & Novigrad) are only a tiny itchy pimple on the west coast. oof. And that there are in fact HUGE distances between the maps.
And then you realize how small even Temeria is. And then how small just the Continent is compared to the entire earth alongside potentially other continents like Ofier. Not to mention all the canonical other dimensions and planets
Yeah the Velen we see in game is only the very north western tip of a former temerian province called Velen. There’s even a major city in the Witcher universe called Gors Velen we don’t get to see which is the capital of this rural province
I know it has been a while since this was uploaded. But I have to point out how much I appreciate this video! What an absolute classy piece of art! I just recently started playing witcher 3 and as a map and geography enthusiast, I just had to dive deeper into the political and topographic nature of the continent. And this video was just ideal for this purpose! Well done!
I love the care and detail put into to the video. I was afraid, that this was going to use the Netflix series as basis of the lore, which makes up the lore as it goes and contradicts itself. I'm glad you took the game/book route. Great job! Keep them coming.
Thanks, so glad you enjoyed it! Yes, It's challenging when the three media each have their own nuances, but I am most familiar with the books and will be using those as foundation
@@TheLorebrarians A solid plan. The games took great care adapting the universe from the books. They are pretty much in line with the books in terms of the lore. My guess is that the Netflix series will be drifting further from the source material in the future seasons. This might cause confusion to people who've only seen the show, but a simple disclaimer probably fixes that issue.
i have watched the witcher many times, but never played the games or read the books, and i was eager to learn more about the ACTUAL lore, and not just the shows lore/timeline - i found this video and was extremely pleased! not only did you tell it in such a way that was easy to understand but you create images in my head that allow me to actually imagine what everything looks like! thank you for this
Man this is perfect for falling asleep too. It keeps my attention until I just peacefully pass out. Then in the morning I just go back to where I was in your series lol.
It's no secret these types of lore channels, which focus on Fantasy books/film/tv like LOTR, GOT, the Witcher, etc., are popping up everywhere lately so its easy to see a lot of content get rehashed multiple times to the point where it almost feels like channels are copying each other. Having just discovered your channel, I have to say, you have done an amazing job with the Witcher content. Well done. Subscribed.
Thank you for the kind words and support. And welcome to the channel! Witcher and MTG lore are my focus but would love to cover other topics in the years to come. Always welcome to suggestions
This video was very well made and as a dungeon master looking to create a world influenced by the Witcher's this video was a gold mine and I am excited to watch the next part.
Huge Witcher fan, I'm well versed with the books and games (and now Netflix series, I guess 🙄)... This is the best video I've seen yet on the geographic explanation of the Continent, and does a fabulous job at touching on the when/why/how of the kingdoms' relationships with one another. Honestly, this would be the absolute first place to send some one who just watched the Netflix series and would want to know more about the world of the Witcher. Very well done, man 👏👏 I've seen maps that cover it by taking a similar map and circling/calling attention to specific cities, areas, etc., but I'd like to see a video detailing the locations in the books so that others could get a better understanding of where (and possibly when) all these stories too place. Again though, hats off the video. You're other ones on the Witcher are on point, too... keep doing what you're doing 👍
Thank you so much for the kind words, great effort goes into creating these videos and I'm glad they are appreciated! If I ever get around to a synopsis video covering the books events I'll be sure to keep in mind your suggestion. Happy you enjoyed the content
We are just playing the Witcher Trilogy for the first time| we have food brake right now where we are watching your Lore Vods, good production so far thank you for doing this!
thank you for making this series. I ran across the witcher wiki page and looooved the selection of creatures the world had to offer. found it very interesting. unfortunately I am baaaad at games. so youtube is where I came to learn the lore. it's like trying to learn 40k lore all over again hahaha.
thank you as for someone who never had game console except atari or access to a good pc to even play the witcher. this is a helpful guide in watching the netflix series.
Ill give ya the ez mode. There was these elf's long ago they were like the Lord of rings elf's magically even godly in a way. They started to run out of food. Even these elf's had ones who were super powerful power from their blood naturally no training in magic they just had it from birth. The elf leader had an advisor who was super elf mage and another elf who was super soldier. The super mage found a way to teleport to other worlds but as he did this monsters were released. He sent super warrior to go through and find food and other places to live. Eventually the supers turned on the king and took control cause they were bad. Elf's can't have kids after like the age of 8 for some reason. The elder blood of the elf's was starting to disappear. In the contenant that's what they call where everyone lives there is no name and the elf's are not from there they are from a different dimension there was a girl named ciri she had elder blood. See in this contenant which was gnome and dwarf only elf's went there but when they used the portal it made hans show up. You have elf's and humans who were in the south. The humans were nice guys and the elf's were not. They interbred and created new human elf race. Ciri is from this line of people. Now other humans who were not from the portal they sailed there somehow were up north. So now the elf's sent super soldier through the portal with his army the wild hunt. There's so much more but that's all you need to know to be honest. Everyone loves the Witcher and it's fine geralt is cool but ciri can literally yell and destroy the whole planet ciri is all that matters in the Witcher. She could literally look at geralt and he would explode
"Oh look, a really interesting elder races lore video- Oh look MOAR witcher lore in detail" Instantly subscribed. Played all games and reading through the third book now. Great videos, can't wait to start the magic: the gathering lore. Never got into it, but the story seems super interesting!
Thanks for the support and welcome to the channel! MTG is my passion but I love all lore and hope to continue to expand into more content. Hope you enjoy
so what i'm getting from this, is that they haven't discovered the "americas" of this world yet, since most of the known world in the witcher is inspired by european lore etc, and no one has travelled west yet, so, in theory, barring the idea of capcom snuffing the title, the next witcher game, or a series of books could be called "sagas of the new world" or some such,. that'd be cool
This really helps. I just started the Witcher 3 and haven’t played the other ones and was so confused, for example who the Nilfgaardians where, if they are bad, etc.
I completely agree w all the lovely compliments given by my fellow viewers of yr videos & wanted to tell you how wonderful yr narrative voice is to listen to!!! Its like having Mr Rogers right here w us, zipping that cardigan up, tying his nifty sneakers up tight, sitting down & sharing his vast knowledge of Witcher lore while our imaginations run wild thinking of how wonderful it would be!!
Can't help but think Toissant would be a constant source of anxiety to Nilfgard. Toissant is a bit goofy, but their knights are skilled soldiers and their land looks like a nightmare to invade geographically.
Gr at content! New sub keep at it! Maybe throw in some Warhammer 40k lore videos once in awhile to draw in some of that fandom. Although the 40k creator community is pretty interesting.........
I appreciate it, thanks for the support! You've come just in time, I have plans for expanding into more content/topics in the coming year, including Warhammer. Stay tuned ;)
Rivers look cool, mountains are random af. Pretty much everything except the mountains looks fine. Mountain ranges look like they ware planned by a teenager.
Erek, have you ever thought about being a Dungeon Master or GM? I suspect you are, but if not you should. You're good at this. That's how I got into magic. My brother was a DM. He picked up a couple packs when it came out and I got hooked. I never played D&D with his group, though I wish I had.
Witcher lore is mostly based on Germanic folklore and mythology, (the fantasy parts not the political parts), which is why queen maeve always confused me being a character in Celtic Irish myth.
xDDD yea and nothing slavic there xDD redania velen some names of the cities names of the rivers names of the kings and persons are slavic too names of the creatures etc
I know we’re supposed to hate the black ones but of all the human kingdoms which are all super corrupt and honest I love how the Witcher universe portrays humans as savage hateful power hungry and overall despicable. It makes sense that they would be. They live in a world full of horrors and darkness which I love the Witcher universe for. They wouldn’t be in power if they weren’t. If the roles of humans and non humans were reversed humans would be marginalized and living in ghettos and spat at. Just the way it is in that world. Anyways nilfgaard is among my favorites besides Kaedwen. I really love how they look aesthetically and honestly as much things I dislike about the Netflix show, I love how they made the armor look of the black ones. Like a bad ass Roman legionaries if they existed in the medieval era.
Unnecessary factoid: probably first time continent was called The Continent, was in a book Witcher: A Game of Imagination (Wiedźmin: Gra wyobraźni, I don't know if there's official translation) in 2001, first take on tabletop RPG in universe. But be ware traveller! Steel your nerves if you want a peek, it's not for faint heart :D There is, or was, legend that map in rulebook "forgot" one whole northern kingdom. Which is hard to prove, as book is surprisingly rare this times :D
After hearing the names of places spoken in the Witcher games I find this guy's "mispronunciation" (it's fiction, I know) of locations REALLY irritating. He says Aedirn, Keadwen, Mahakam and Tredogor differently than the game's characters do. It reminds me of the terrible M. Night Shamalan version of Avatar: The Last Airbender!
It's always funny to me that native English speakers in some cases apparently pronounce E like A for some reason. Like how the guy in this video says "Skelliga" instead of "Skellige".
