Not quite right, the reason for that is because people accused her of making it snow even tho it was Roswell, the only ones who care about her disappeared without saying a single word (Subaru and Puck) and the main reason for that because she kept going under the trial over and over again without having her memories because she still had a contract with Puck at that point.
@@Moon-yh8dh You pretty much said what OP said with extra details. It’s widely accepted that even despite the minor details, that Emilia, being all alone, was driven insane by repetition in the trial. Plain and simple.
@@CueLash i mean that wasn't the only reason why she went insane and those extra details are part of reason like Emilia not having her memories, this wasn't the only pressure that she was undergoing, i feel like a lot of people missed those things and that's why i wrote this.
@@roxas4587 i don't think Emilia needed them to "comfort" her exactly, she just didn't know what happened to both of them since both of them disappeared she even didn't see Subaru's letter.
Fun fact: before Subaru died on Emilia's lap, he saw that all the people in Sanctuary had locked themselves in a building and set it on fire because it would've been a lot better to be burned alive than to be eaten by the great rabbit.
@@rickkcir2151 nah, they would’ve burned if they tried to enter. And since they’re mindless, good chunk of them probably just died and then moved on cuz it wasn’t worth it. Remember, they go after mana. If the ppl r dead, no mana.
Echidna's pact would link her to Subaru so she would be with him whenever he returns by death, but she would make him die in every way possible to collect data so that he can achieve the ending that he would want.
the thing is, him dying would not even be her goal, as she said she won't purposely make him repeat unnecessary times, but she sure would give opinions that may work, but also would have the chance of making him die so she can see more of the possibilities
@@chousion6890 it's almost worse than that, because im pretty sure she basically forces stability into his body as soon as he's about to lose it with the witch factor or whatever, so his conscious mind remains fine, which means he couldn't even find the solace of not having to think anymore
"he is naive" and "she is selling a good car tho" are actually very good comments to that scene. When you think about it echidna just fully gained his trust with every time he visited her. I mean first she heard him out about the return by death thing than about his past and now she appears with perfect timing when everything went down again. He really needed help so she just made the perfect offer for that moment and he didn't even think about something bad, because she seemed good in his eyes up to this point.
LoL so if Subaru randomly disappeared he'd be like "hm 🤔🤔🤔" and then... What? He wouldn't be able to take advantage of him or maybe he's setting subsru up to show reactions! Either way it's hilarious 😆
@@sayori3939well it’s not confirmed that worlds continue after Subaru does but if they did then Roswaal wouldn’t care because he needs just “one of him” to succeed at his plan of Subaru taking the contract because he’s hella crazy
@@bug688 my comment was about the main comment on roswall beating subaru as i said if Subaru could return at will what would be roswall do? Subaru would had disappeared and he would be just standing there awkward without his punching bag that is if subaru going back wouldn't bring the whole world back with him
Out of all the anime I’ve seen, there isnt a single protagonist that experiences more pain than this guy Subaru. Let’s just take a second to honor this man
Fun fact: in one of the If stories (which is basically a short story from the official author on what would have happened if Subaru did something differently according to one of the sins), in the Greed timeline he died 100 million times to achieve the future he originally desired, but he was no longer the same person. By the end, he would kill himself in the day, just to wake up in the morning and answer Petra's concerns about "there being good weather so she could go on a walk". Echidna did not force him to do this. But she made sure if she wanted to, she'd get him into a situation that would def kill him.
@@ICanHazRecon911 No problem! I haven't really found that but if you look at SeaTactics' channel you can see where they discuss chapters of the light novels and talk about what happens (it's the closest thing for a recap but it's like 1h30 for 4-6 chapters)
He believed it was some power he needs to activate so he was going to beat him, without killing him to try and force him to reset, not knowing that killing him is what triggers the reset.
Emelia just went crazy because she's basically lost everyone. Puck hadn't come out, and Subaru left. She lost her supports so that's why that happened. She also went crazy from trying the trial over and over again. Also, Reinhard is the most op person in ReZero. When he killed Puck, I heard that in the light novel it said something along the lines of as soon as he killed Puck, the world was destroyed and remade in an instant.
According to Roswaal in this episode, it was mostly (also) because the villagers blamed Emilia for the change in weather. We even see Garfiel assuming this, and it clearly pisses him off. Having the whole village demonize her like that made her really depressed, so she started dissociating, choosing not to see any of the bad things
reinhard is the real protagonist, he can 1 shot everything even other country/kingdom bans him from visiting other kingdom cuz anti reinhard laws, cuz everyone sees him as a threat to their kingdom
Don't know why but people forget she didn't have her memories back because Puck was blocking her memories which is the most important reason and because she was going under the trials over and over again.
important point: Roswaal doesnt know that Subaru resets by dying, thats why he beat up Subaru to force him into redoing, if Roswaal found out hed make subaru do hundreds of loops to reach his goal
Depends. When and where he knows that subaru's death resets it If he knew from the beginning. Subaru would be broken by now. If he knew later, its can be reverted
It would be impossible since satella specifically sets his spawn points to be when he can still save himself. Even if roswaal found out death was the trigger, as long as subaru resets once it will more than likely be at a point where he can either get away from roswaal or go back to a point where roswaal doesn't know the trigger. The latter being much much likelier since tella doesn't really like it when other people know about the secret that is suppose to only be shared between her and subaru. And because his checkpoints have been specifically said to be at a point where he can save himself, since satella won't let him meet a dead end.
@@Aaayyyeeee214 let me elaborate, i was more talking about a hypothetical where Roswaal knows and the loop has already been saved, but if he found out where the anime currently is he would kill subaru to win the bet OR if he found out that the save points are automatic he would probably just go kill Elsa himself and allow Subaru to win this bet so that he can have a hold on Subaru when Subaru next dies, which he would be able to figure out since whenever subaru dies Subaru will usually change his behaviour to avoid that end, once Roswaal knows this he can kill Subaru to reset as much as he wants since every time he dies he'll know Subaru has died because the gospel will tell him Subarus movements and how suspicious they are, and he would still have access to the gospel since 1. no one won the bet since Roswaal just killed Elsa himself or 2. in the anime /LN version Roswaal doesnt form a soul binding contract like in the web novel so he isnt bound to follow his end of the deal anyway. and satella would allow Subaru to meet a dead end since in the Pride IF satella releases Subaru from return by death and his save point was literally in the middle of a fight with Reinhard, and in the greed IF she allows Subaru to basically let Echidna do what Roswaal would be doing in this situation
@@mwsage8645 m8 if the soul binding contract wasn't made and roswaal can just choose not to keep his end of the bargain, why would subaru need to? The bet states that subaru won't use rbd, if roswaal helps him overcome the situation, subaru would have won since he didn't reset and everything has already been resolved. The bet would be won by him and roswaal would have to discard the gospel. The soul binding contract was still present in LN, just that subaru didn't know it branded his soul and would follow him if he reset. The reason this change was made was because of how unnaturally confident subaru was in the WN. I'm not sure about the anime, but considering the fact that it follows the LN. The contract is most likely still there since the bet would be pointless without it. The bet still had to be made since he needs to make sure roswaal won't cook up another convoluted scheme trying push him over the edge. In the pride if, subaru is satisfied with what he has done, and his resets weren't in close proximity with reinhard. If they were, he would get no chance to run considering how fast reinhard is. Plus reinhard has a pretty big attack range and doesn't even need to be close to finish someone as fragile as a normal human off. In the greed if, he was following his own desire. He willingly made a contract with echidna, and didn't regret it at all. Even if he did at one point regret making the contract with her, it would have been too late since he would have already gone through several new check points. Satella still has to abide by some of RBD's rules, and although not confirmed. One of the consistent rules of rbd across every timeline has been that once a new checkpoint has been made, subaru can't go further back than that checkpoint. By "dead end" i meant he always has a way of moving forward. She won't update his checkpoint if he is put into a completely helpless situation. For example, if roswaal found out he can rbd and kept him locked up long enough to where he thinks " he shouldn't be able to go all the way back to before i found out", then he would be fucked since satella will most likely not update the checkpoint since he wouldn't be able to escape death in that kind of situation. It would be a dead end since death is confirmed amd there is nothing he can do about it. Being in a contract with echidna doesn't mean he can't move forward, it isn't a dead end. Echidna doesn't do anything but advise him, he actively kills himself voluntarily. His checkpoints will never be when he is in a helpless situation, where even running away from it all isn't an option. If roswaal found out death is the trigger during the bet then sure, subaru would have to follow his command as per their contract since he chose to sign it.
The reason he is so naive, why he doesn't ask what the consequences of contract would be at first, is because Echidna kept buttering him up the whole season. She was there for him, she was the only person that could hear him out, she saved him multiple times (although in some very unpleasant ways, like giving him tool to suicide inside Satella's shadows). Subaru went through so much shit this season that he really just wants someone to share the burden with him, and Echidna seemed to be the only person that was able to. So yeah it was stupid, but understandable all things considering.
What Echidna is proposing is not a "Speedrun" but "100% Completion". Subaru will have to die far more than he should to arrive at his "perfect" ending, which is not to his advantage.
Echidna's totally the kind of person whole play a 100+ hour RPG multiple times just to see how the story would change depending on which guy/girl she dated XD

Notice how the first time elsa got hit by reinhart and survived her cloak was missing Now when betty "killed" her she came back and her cloak is gone Idk maybe she just has a free revival
I heard from someone that it's some sort of trick or technique she has although it wasn't explained so I'm guessing it might be something like having the cloak take her place or something like that
in the WN it says her cloak allows her to absorb one magic attack in return destroying the cloak, but betty hit her with multiple mana shards so its something else that will be explained later on
She has some ways to nullify magic attacks, and (possible spoiler) She has ridiculous HP regen that requires opponents to overkill her to actually defeat her.
@@Crinjal_2611 He could have killed her if he's aware of her power in Season 1 I think. But because he wanted to control his power to not wipe out the slum, Elsa lived. Spoiler below: She won't be going around for long tho, Garfiel will see to that.
Emilia didnt become the witch there, last time the witch possessed Emilia, this time Emilia thought Subaru abandoned her so she redid the trial a bunch of times and went insane to try and win back subaru
I’ve been waiting for you guys to see the imposter scene lets gooooo. Even when Rem isn’t there the lessons she taught Subaru are always with him to help him. Rem is truly always by his side whether it’s physically or in spirit
Thats why if the Greed If Route, when ever Subaru ask Echidna the way to wake Rem, Echidna give him the way that took him the longest time to adchieve .Because Echidna knows when Rem awake,Subaru will no longer need her support anymore
It's not hero complex imo. He really cares about people in general. He wants everyone to somehow survive. That's so human. I mean even if you're not too close to your neighbours, you wouldn't want them to die in a life or death situation. It's the same with him but in his case he's spent more time with those neighbours. And the reason he didn't want to see Beatrice kill a kid is not because he wanted to be her hero. I mean, I didn't want my dad to kill a rat right in front of eyes the other day. 😂 It doesn't mean I wanted to be that rat's hero. I just didn't want the death of that creature weighing down on my conscience.
@crystalblade13 exactly. Season 1 was all about him realising that he's not Kirito. He's not overpowered and can have all the waifus. Season 1 was written to make him get humbled.
Beyond that, she was literally one of the kids that he befriended in the village. I don't think it's too much to assume he wouldn't be immediately willing to kill someone he genuinely cares about like that.
I mean even if you saw a stranger in a car crash, you wouldn't want this complete stranger to die, you'd call for help or call an ambulance at the very least
And this is why Subaru is a very unique MC.. He might not have any super powers. But his MIND is beyond anyone else. We have seen him broke down multiple of times but he never BREAKS completely. Despite all the suffering, he is able to remember everything that has happened to him since he came to this world.
21:24 Think about it, though. Echidna has helped Subaru multiple times already. There’s not much reason to doubt her now. Also, think about what he just went through. He just saw what happens after he dies in all the timelines. And Echidna suddenly offers him a way to find the right path. Of course he’d jump at the chance. That was her plan!
This is one of the biggest character development episodes so far in Re:Zero when Subaru finally has to come to terms with how he's been using Return by Death to reset the worlds, creating new divergent timelines every time he dies and leaving behind different versions of the people he cares about and how they react to his various deaths. Fun little side note: Echidna's whole rant in the novels was like a whole two pages long lol
The trial would originally have only shown him how he affects the people he loves. However in resetting so much, the trial went crazy, showing him every timeline in which he died previously. If he had continued through it, his mind would have shattered from the trauma.
@@XrosReflection yea i mean he should kill her probably but its just not his type of thing, i dont think he even killed a person in anime, like he killed Juice but he was like a monster already, he never killed an acutal person + its a little girl lul
@Abd Allah the greed if story. The if story's are what would've happened if subaru chose a different path at one of his crossroads. For example back in s1 when Betty was protecting him from ram. He chose to kill himself. In the wrath if story he doesn't do that and instead runs away with her. And the story divulges greatly. Same thing with the greed if. In this crossroads he accepts the deal with echidna
The thing Subaru has convinced himself of is that Return by Death resets the world, his Second Trial makes that look very unlikely and for Subaru - who only wants to help other people - that's hell of the worst variety, he didn't save anyone, he's left countless numbers of the people he loves to suffer and die because he failed. Subaru doesn't care about himself, he hates himself and he thinks his life isn't worth living, so learning that he might have sacrificed nothing just to leave those he loves in pain is mental torture for him. Which is why I think it isn't real, with what Echidna does afterwards, I'm certain she's doing that to bring him to the edge of sanity to offer him the lifeline and get his contract.
ahh i love this anime so much, there are a lot of things that are intentionally left unexplained, maybe for another time, or maybe not at all, but my god this anime just plays around with my brain so much. Im always on the edge of my seat engrossed with everything thats going on
3:56 Subaru knows at this moment, what Julius felt when Subaru asked him to kill him. Difference is, Subaru lacks the courage to do for her, what Julius did for him.

I think satella showing up at the end of this episode got me more hyped then i've been in years for an anime. Walking in all badass. i waited years to meet her.
Someone put a spoiler in the replies, pls don't read them, sorry ;-; Emilia went insane from the trial she wasn't possessed by Satella this loop, also Roswaal doesn't know he restarts by dying so he was beating him up hoping he would just activate the power cause he thinks he can activate it on his own. Reinhard literally reset the world when he killed puck, like literally.... He saw many presents because he's had many lives, it isn't confirmed if all those things actually happened or if they were just shown to him as a trial of what would've happened if he was leaving behind alternate worlds. Also Echidna would've killed him millions of times in every opportunity just to learn what would happen if he died at different times until then after dying literally as much as possible she would choose which option is the best to live in, kinda trash, all the emotions she had shown before of shyness and being all cute was all an act and that kinda sucks, a lot of people including myself were tricked by that bitch. You know i just noticed echidna called return by death an authority which is also what arch bishop of sloth called his ability so does that confirm subaru is technically a arch bishop that ends up also having the unseen hand authority
Semi important detail the reason Beatrice used the shamoc spell before Subaru could is because the dude’s gate that controls magic within his body is still damaged from season 1 If ya remember he was getting that fixed by that cat girl person but quit his treatment before it was finished because of that was going on with the Emilia and the with cult
If you guys want to know what would happen if he accepted Echidna's contract, the author wrote the greed if story, there are videos on youtube that tell it
The reason roswaal was beating Subaru was, in his mind, to force him to reset. He knows Subaru possesses return by death but he doesn’t know it activates when he dies.
Roswaal started beating Subaru up because he think Subaru can just start over whenever he feels like, he doesn't know he has to die. Also that Emilia had her mind broken
