Thank you. I'm glad you're inspired to do your own research. Might I suggest, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave, by Frederick Douglass.
Education didn't really mean much back then. Being smart wasn't backed by your education, but how you lived your life. She saved money, knew how to run a business and a household... not to mention hold that man for 44yrs! Big props to her qualities.... that speaks for itself.
Marvin Gaye’s “Anna’s Song” came to mind at the end of this video… “She's a child of the sun, lovingest one of all.” Anna Douglass, arguably , was the most unconditionally loving of them all. Her devotion to the family they created and their 44 years of marriage speak to this. Thank you @Sweetlip for taking the time to research Mrs. Anna Douglass and share it with us here. I really appreciate the compassionate way you delivered the information. The time they lived in, like these, were so complex. The fact that you acknowledged that and restrained yourself from expressing any of your own personal judgements is admirable. One of my biggest takeaways from your video is that Anna and Frederick relied heavily on community to make their lives “work.” Much as we do in modern times. Like most of us, their lives were nuanced, with complexities that quite frankly reminded me of the importance of Grace in humanity.
Thank you for this comment 🙏🏽 My goal is always to speak the truth as I know it to be. No marriage is perfect, iconic couples included. FD's legacy has been so carefully preserved for over a century, and that is all due to the undying love and support he had from his family and friends. But there would be no legacy without Anna.
I'm sorry, respectfully, how is this an inspiration? In this day and age BM demand submissive women, for what? To be in a situation like this? She helped this man financially ( before & after children ) .. Endured multiple affairs ( and lived with the mistresses ).. The list goes on and on. This is a lesson for sure, BW enjoy you freedom and independence. Respectfully.
@@VaChier-vb3pb it’s a lesson to assess who your marrying. Marry someone who has success, abundance and morals. A man with sexual discipline is a man to be honored and prized.
Another great video. Very informative. My heart goes out to Anna. She endured a lot. It must have been very hard for her especially as Fredick was probably like a modern day celebrity. They all went through a very challenging life.
What married woman, even back then would appreciate having 2 single women living in her home who have direct access to her husband? Especially thinking about the suspiciousness, that could create in her mind, when they travel with him (and not you) and supposedly they are there assisting him by serving as editors with connections to publishers to launch his newspaper, and aid in writing. Personally, I can understand the friction between Anna (his wife), and the two women having such close contact to her husband. Yikes! I would have to stay busy trying to keep my mind off of what was in my face with these two women, and they being white from her larger experience must've been seen, as overall untrustworthy to begin with. What a mighty task Anna did entrusting her husband, and for allowing these women into her home (for her husband) to help further his cause and abolition, and regardless of poor travel conditions and bad roads, or the lack of places to stay at that time. To me Anna deserves a badge of honor for strength and perseverance through it all.
Anna Murray Douglass should be admired for not only her contributions to her family and Douglass, but also her self-control regarding Douglass' infidelities in their own home. Pharaphrased: "Celie, you have my deepest sympathy. Not too many women would allow their husband's hoes to stay at their house." - The Color Purple, movie. Js
Thank you .. I knew nothing about Anne Murray Douglas.. She was a strong black women. Lived during the time that her skin complexion wasn’t acceptable ..She gave him beautiful children.
Anna lived in Denton Maryland on St. George Island i also believed she was native to these lands they were classified as black yet maybe why she was free maybe
Wow this is some history i never knew about. Anna was a strong Brown Israelite. Douglas on the other hand should have had more respect for his wife and family he knew his wife Anna was the backbone of keeping it all together and really i have no respect for him after what he did he married outside of his race which the most High Yah said that we're not to touch these Nations of people if he read so many books then ikn He read the Bible because it mentions it HalleluYaH Praise Yah.
Yall tripn, aunt Helen and her husband uncle Douglas did many great things for ppl rights and America but people gonna hate cause she was white or I guess just cause they got nothing better to do! Be ashamed of yourself
I'm not sure if she could write. But people often had other people write books for them as they orally spoke. Even if she had no schooling she still may have been able to write enough to make a book.
