Let's pull back the curtain on "The Wizard of Oz". Here's a video I made, synching audio from the recording sessions to the film. Alternate takes, false starts, unused music, etc. Please comment if you like it and want more!
Judy sounds so exhausted. She gave up so much so that we could see her wonderful performances. I love her so much, I wish things could have been different for her
@@user-mn4kg3jb4jno she went through so much abuse for this, she was forced to lose weight, use drugs, a lot of things, and the director even slapped her cause she wouldn’t stop laughing
I love these alternate takes from my all-time favorite movie the beloved, excellent, fantastic, magnificent, wonderful MGM 1939 classic movie The Wizard of Oz that is perfectly cast!
Thank you for posting this. Once again, the artistry, hard work, and dedication that went into this masterpiece of filmmaking is clearly seen. The 1930s and 40s were certainly a zenith for musical film, particularly as executed by MGM and the wonderful Freed unit.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. I have many favorite movies! The Beautiful, Brilliant, Classic Charming, Delightful, Excellent, Fantastic, Perfectly Cast, Outstanding, Uplifting, Wonderful, 1939 MGM Fantasy Musical Movie, The Wizard of Oz adapted and based on the 1900 classic children's book by Lyman Frank Baum and with Illustrations by W.W. Denslow is my favorite movie of all the time since I first saw the movie at the age of two! This Movie is in a class by itself!
Another great video! Fascinating to hear the choices that were made. Now see if you can find the missing sections of “A Star Is Born” rumored to be out there somewhere! 😉
Broadway Classics Oh, wow! Thanks for trying. Sad that he never responded. I wrote to one of the creators of a DVD site and to Leonard Maltin to ask them if he really had the footage ... they pretty much said it was very possible. Very.
Interesting and Fascinating 15-year-old year Judy Garland loved making The Wizard of Oz! Judy Garland was very happy during the entire filming and making of The Wizard of Oz All Recording of the songs were prerecorded in a week before any filming took place!
No, the music was all recorded before he was ever assigned to the project, and wouldn't have been his responsibility anyway. At 1:01, Judy says, "I'm sorry, George," which means it's Georgie Stoll, whose name appears at the beginning of the video.
What strikes me most is Judy, all of sixteen years old, and the adults in the room all speaking to each other on the same level. So much for the zeebs who want to say Judy was disregarded or bullied. They were all pros working together. And I much prefer the voice that the Coroner ended up with! This one sounds like Popeye.
