Sometimes there just isn't any justice and equitability for creative artists as innovative and excellent as the Wolfies were. Every album they put out was better than the one before it; they were sensational live. Yet it never quite 'happened' for them. 'A Girl Like You (Born to be Kissed)' was as close as they got to a major worldwide hit. It's a pity, but there you have it.
hello all Me and Mick (TWP) Gary Asquith from renegade soundwave and Stephen Gray will be playing a short set at Half Moon in Putney on 28th January undera new project named 'Free Rivers'
A lot of people dismissed TWP as intense, morose and dour but from Bird Wood Cage onwards, a lot of their stuff was underpinned with black humour. Many of their videos for instance were very funny. But nowhere more was this wry humour evident than on the whole of 'Queer' (inspired, the band openly admit, by De La Soul's 'Three Feet High and Rising'), which was such a departure from everything that went before. 28 years later, the whole album still gets a regular spin on my turntable. This deadpan deconstruction of the Randy Newman staple is a complete hoot.
Summer of 1991. Seattle's KNDD-FM makes its debut, and frequently plays this Wolfgang Press selection in the months that followed - in the glorious true alternative period before the station and its DJs surrendered to the massing flannel army, and lost their way in the sea of grunge garbage that overtook everything else. That was a sad sad moment, considering that things started off so promising.
Oh look!? A comment section that's still open. Loved this band from the very start ~ even the final two albums. I think Queer is craftier than Funky Little Demons, but the latter is still excellent. So glad that they put out "Unremembered, Remembered". I wasn't expecting too much when I went to listen, but it's great stuff! I saw them at The Shadow in Kansas City on their Queer tour. It was excellent and the tiny venue made it even better. I'm surprised they weren't taken more seriously, but there it is. I heard that 4AD outright fired them. Lol. Ruffled some pretentious feathers. I love the early music they promoted & the first 2 or 3 This Mortal Coil projects they put together, but now they're just taking down uploads all over the internet & many of the smaller bands that signed with them are getting next to no exposure at all. Shame.
The Wolfgang Press - Mama Told Me Not To Come (Official Video) 2139pm 13.4.23 i am very much enamoured of the fact that wolfgang press wasn't the best band indie kids encountered........
The Rave Rockers! Or Baggies, in the parlance of the U.K. Straight up Acid House and the summer of '89, babies! In simplistic terms, hip hop rock. Loved this type of rock in the late 80's, and very early 90's. Just couldn't define it at the time. Everything since then, has sucked a big one. Whether it was grunge, degenerate gangsta rap, or 1994's " the year that punk broke." Everything after 1993, has sucked a big one. Proove me wrong. Or is it that I'm old? Nope, everything after 1993 has sucked a big one.
