I’ve been a stay at home mom for almost 30 years. I raised the kids, took care of the house, and homeschooled. I am not a trad wife. My husband and I are equally in charge of everything.

I understand where they’re coming from and agree with parts. But I also agree that there can be traditional roles with equal respect. I’m not super sure I see that here.

This was so painful to watch. Stacey, I admired you a lot being kind and nice as always while it was clear that this was your horror version of life

As a former expat I see this a bit differently. I think Lillian is isolated in a new country and bored and uses her role as a wife and mother as a way to occupy her time and mind and essentially give her something to do. They are also living in a country but not actually experiencing the culture and also isolating their children, which will have effects on their socialization.

If you are a trad wife, the husband must treat in a way that makes you feel valued & loved! A good wife is true treasure & husband should treat trad wife as such! If the husband is controlling & demanding this marriage will not work!

I’m shocked at him telling her clothes may not be flattering on her and her being a whole tall beautiful model. Which I’m sure everything looks beautiful on her

As a feminist I think she has the right to make decisions about her life that she feels are the best for her and her family. Deciding to stay at home with the children is not incongruent with feminism.

When Stacey was talking with the husband outside, it’s clear that he’s not really listening to her opinions based on his body language and immediate and constant responses of, “Yeah, yeah.”

I found interesting the daughter emotionally latching onto Stacey. I wonder if this is normal development or if Stacey reminds the daughter of Lillian somehow? Or maybe she’s seeking out more emotional connection? it stuck out how she cried when Stacey had to leave, wrote Stacey a letter because she’s shy. Clearly Stacey’s presence meant something to her. I just wonder how typical it is for her age. I remember doing similar things, and I didn’t quite get the emotional support I needed as a child. Not that her behavior means she’s not getting enough love or attention but I definitely wonder about the dynamics of the family in terms of vulnerability, expressing negative feelings, etc. a lot to take from a snippet in a video I realize

The little girl is afraid of the dad and it’s painfully obvious. I think things are not as nice when company is not there. As a DV survivor this had red flags all over it for me.

I LOVE being a stay at home, homeschooling mom and wife. Its the most fullfilling things i have ever done. My husband works and i GET to cook for my family and spend time with them. I LOVE taking care of my house and make it beautiful. I ENJOY having a close family and jouful marriage. We arent as strict and interpret "obeying" differently. We make decisions together and have a shared bank account. But we have set tradtional roles that i very much enjoy! I love it much!

What I find interesting is that she didn't start off as a trad wife... There are enough women who always wanted to be trad wives. Yet, he didn't pick one of those women. I think part of his interest in her was to make a career woman into a trad woman. I think it's an interesting way for him to show his dominance.

Just watching this and realized the first thing the dad commented on about Stacey was her earrings....just a bit telling that he finds her appearance the most important thing about her on first impression

I think the icky part about this is the whole man > woman and if woman > man, he could cheat. My mom was a housewife for years because it was stressing taking care of two toddlers + working, while my dad is self employed and works all day everyday. So he told her that it would be no problem if she stopped working. He recognises she does work a lot, cause taking care of children and a house is work. When we got older she went back to work, but spends less hours at the office to go grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, etc. If I got married, I would love that dinamic. We both work but if for some reason one of us feels like they can’t with everything, we could take some time off work. Of course it would only be if we had the sufficient income to do that lol

Life is not about career, achievements, fame, or acquisitions. All of those do not last. It doesn't matter how successful you are in career, but if all your relationships are out of whack, it's not going to be a happy life. Life is all about relationships. Learning how to love is the number one point of life.❤

It seems like the only way this marriage could be healthy is if the husband and wife respected each other. There are WAY too many ways this could end in abuse or long built resentment. I’m not saying it can’t work, but it would take a worthy partner. Being vulnerable CAN be bad, if you are vulnerable with the WRONG person. Someone who does not have your best interest at heart. It scares me how easily this could become unsafe 😢❤ That being said, they both seem to feel safe and valued. So good for them 🤷🏻‍♀️💜 I think having two partners who can interchange roles based on household needs is best. It seems these days with so much environmental/economical unrest it is SAFEST for both partners have the means to work. How much, where, to what extent, should be up to the couple. Albeit, that can be tricky ❤ I worry about consent in sexual relationships here…………

Having been a tradwife for 35 years, I LOVE it! My husband treats me as an equal and WANTS to hear my opinions. He usually will wait until we are both on the same page before making major decisions. However, if a decision HAS to be made and we aren’t together on things I willingly want to yield to him. There is MUCH security for me and our children this way. ❤

I get why the women feel that is is more rewarding to put their energy into the family than work outside home. But why does it have to come with a tyrant of a husband?

Why does many people always say that little girls dream to be like to be saved by a knight in shiny armor, to be a wife and mother? I believe each woman has their own path in this life on earth. As a little girl, I never dreamed to be a mother and wife. I didn't know what I wanted to grow up as. I don't take pleasure in doing housework. I feel blessed to be where I am; I'm truly content as a single woman without any children at home. My day job I actually care for other people's kids and I'm good with that. I trust God in helping me to fulfill my purpose on earth as the way I am; may His love shines through me and his glory shown through me.

I'm 46, no family, no children, not much of a career. Live a happy life, ladies. Careers are not going to hold your hand, be supportive, keep you warm and make you smile.

I could never be a Trad wife personally but isn’t that what feminism was all about? The right to choose? This woman had two Master degrees yet chose this lifestyle for herself. If she is happier being subservient to her husband then this was her choice. Who are we to judge her?

At the same time, they do know that you disagree with their lifestyle, or, better put, would not adopt it. So I can't help but wonder why they would agree to have their lifes dissected? Is there any kind of commercial agreement? In other words: are they offered payment?

I don't find that this has to do entirely with being a stay at home mom. Many people and as others commented on here, have that setup and are not having their husband choose their clothes, etc. He comes off as very dominant and i don't find it a normal family dynamics. The punishment seems excessive, i believe these kids will grow with a lot of personal issues. It is so sad to see the little girl like this. And, as we all know, our most personal relationships will have a great impact in our well being. I don't think that this is about a balanced partnership but more that he found someone who will blindly follow him.

If it works for them, that’s great. I was raised in a 2 income household from 3 rd grade thru college. My Mother went to college on a full scholarship for Nursing and obtained a certificate in Public Health also. Her further credits today probably are equivalent to a Masters. Right after WW II, many women did not work but stayed home and took care of the children and house. My Mom went back to Public Health Nursing when I was in 3rd grade and my sister was in first grade My parents shared all the tasks and were present throughout their lives My Mom always made more money than my Dad but everything was equally shared I had a great career through my marriage. We both shared everything as well You need to do what works for you and your family Being a trade would not have been or would have worked for me. I had the best of both worlds but it takes work, patience, communication and compromise too

I respect this family and them simply just filling roles in thier nuclear family. They speak and explain thier ideals so eloquently. They clearly have a relationship build on trust, love and respect.

This guy's family is from South America where the machismo is very prevalent. He's just doing what he has been bred to do, be the "man" of the house and his word is final. Marriage is where one partner complements the other, not rules the other.

My parents have been married for 53 years. My mum quit working as soon as I was born one year after they got married and raised my brother and I while she could have done anything else she wanted. But truly run a household, even with a housekeeper, what she always had is tiring and busy to also be able to have some time for herself. She is 75 years old now and still up and down. Sometimes, she drives 300km just to check the country house stuff/employees by herself. Amazing to see them together. Dont have friends, go to the beach or the country every weekend, she is always with her lipstick on when he is about to arrive from work. Unfortunately, I haven't found a man like him. And as said a friend of mine, he is one in 5 million. 😢 she has her own money, not joint accounts! He pays her and he has no idea how she spends... Amazing!

Dear one, i have so much to tell you. i see my younger self in you. i bought the life of feminism. i am twice your age. i’m the youngest sister to first wave feminists. my dreams were shaped by my older siblings. live free or die. as i aged, i became more out of synch with my peers. ie: (marriage & children.) i grieved for want to become a mother, for years. as time progresses it is clear to me that if I marry, most likely i’d be a second wife. Men my age either did not want children, or they already had children and didn’t want more. I missed the boat. at 39yrs old, I just decided to get pregnant. My clock was ticking so hard i knew i could no longer await the Fates. deep down I knew my window to have children was quickly drawing to a close. now, I am mother to one child. My son is grown into a fine 22yr old young man. it didn’t take long at all, as a single mother, to realize at the core of myself: I am a feminine traditionalist. i took parenting very seriously. what values did i want my son to guided by? what kind of man will hope him to become? Seriously. I wanted my son to have strong moral fiber. i wanted my son to be a leader, not a follower. i wanted my son to care about the underdog. These qualities of a manhood are distinctly found in Jesus Christ as it is written in The Bible. Motherhood has transformed my life and my perspective regarding feminism. Now, i only wish i had not been so rebellious and independent. if I could go back i would choose to be a traditional woman & wife.

I am just very concern about the kids, I can see they are not happy. I hope this is not another case of a narcissist manipulating the whole family .

It’s scary that some women will give so much of their freedom away to the man they married. You can be a stay at home mom and still be an equal partner. I don’t get why they think they have to submit. Religion makes things scary sometimes.

When you're old and grey and alone without children you may start to realize that being a trad wife (with a respectful husband) isn't so bad afterall. And that woman definitely CHOSE to be a 'traditional wife'. She's highly intelligent and no pushover. Maybe when we return to our divine blueprint things actually do work better.

A trad wife can do many things like start a youtube channel, get into writing, painting, sewing, gardening, pottery, cooking that can bring about fulfilment

This family is an extreme. I agree with the principle of roles in the home, but there is a balance, as with everything in life. As a woman/wife/mother, there is nothing that gives me more satisfaction in life than doing those “traditional” things. In my life, I chose a very honorable man as my husband and I trust him completely to make decisions for our family, but he also converses with me and asks what I think before a decision is made. Ultimately I trust that he has our family’s best interest at heart. He likes to cook and is good at it and I hate it so he does the cooking. I love to build and create things, do yard work and be outside and he doesn’t enjoy those things so I do them. Ultimately, I hate the fact that we can’t survive on one income so I have to work and can’t do the things that I feel like I was created to do that brings me the most joy, being a mother, wife, and homemaker. Those things are empowering to me. It shouldn’t be seen as being weak (when in a healthy household).

I think what has made her situation better is the type of man she chose. If a woman puts herself in that vulnerable position but chose an abusive or undermining/controlling disrespectful man or an irresponsible man, that would be a very scary situation for the woman and women aren’t psychics… they can’t tell if they are choosing wrong. What I don’t understand is that she is so intelligent and educated because of her opportunity to go to school and she is depriving that from her children. Become a school teacher and help many students grow. My father once got a vaccum for my mother at Christmas… she was furious and felt so unseen and ignored for her desires. My mother would have been considered a Tradwife back then but then my father became irresponsible, reckless and had a mental breakdown into a mental health crisis and my mom was single with 3 girls struggling to keep us afloat. She then met a man who tried to do the gender role thing but he was very verbally abusive so my mom kept her job and clung to saving her own money. Now that he has cancer and might not be around, my mom has built her nest egg for when she is continuing life alone.

All what i see here is a beautiful family. Lilian is living her fairytale and has every right to do so. As a 25years old woman who works, i do plan to be a traditional wife down the line once my husband is able to have the financial ability to carry the house. There are so many things i will love to do like sewing, gardening, etc which i can't do now because i am completely consumed with work and frankly i am getting exhausted with this current life. I will like to take a step back and just take care of my famile and enjoy life more.

She feels Empowered being at home. Managing her family and taking the lead in that half of the relationship allows her man to do the “man things”. That is a division of roles that are MUTUALLY agreed upon. She wants him to be the divine masculine counterpart. And loving him and making him feel heard and important is not only making him feel secure in his manhood, he becomes the protector of his home and family. Feminism is about choice. For everyone being shocked: that's pretty much how the absolute majority of traditional Muslim families live, too. I live in Germany - in an area with lots of immigrants. No woman is working except for the family. They seem happy with it. Just because it's Christianity shouldn't make it all offensive.

I appreciate the traditional way they run their family, because on the surface it looks blissful and perfect. But I think this woman may not realize just HOW MUCH of a privilege it is to have a partner you can trust with no question. Part of me cringes when she says things like "more women should back down," but my first thought is that "my god she is so lucky to be ABLE to trust him so blindly." This lifestyle isn't a secret key to life. I admire and appreciate when folks can live traditionally the "right way," but there is a reason things have been changing so suddenly and drastically. For most people it is a welcome change. If this is truly how this family lives, the women and children are blessed. Nothing more than that.

The happiness Lily and her husband are experiencing is so contagious that I couldn't stop smiling the whole video and I can say it's because it is genuine and true. I was also very much a feminist before having kids. I live in the USA and we have to have 2 incomes. I feel worn out all the time and totally get what Lillian was saying..women can't have it all bc we are burning our candles at both ends. My husband does cook meals, does laundry, all the yard work and car things..he does dust and sweep also. We feel we take turns cleaning well but I would love to be able to stay at home during the day to clean and cook and then just be with my family at evening times.

I would have loved to be a stay at home mother but I have 4 kids and could only provide with both of us working. Luckily I am a nurse so worked night shift when the kids were little and I didn't have to put them in daycare. But it was exhausting. I'd come home on Monday morning and hubs would leave for work and I'd have to stay awake for greater than 24 hours. The feminist movement created an environment where women are now having to work even if they'd prefer not to when their kids are little.

Im at stay at home mum and i am given an allowance that i can spend on myself. I am happy with this arrangement and i believe marriages would be stronger if they had these roles

This is fantastic. Muscularity and femineity at its finest. They both play a vital role in caring for each other and taking care of their kids and building strong values to the kids. Less TV for the kids and focus on been more present at home. Marriage is not about happiness but rather love for duty, labor, commitment, and sacrifices to care for each other by playing each others roles despite each others flaws. All these things creates a happy environment for both husband, wife and kids to be happy.

It’s so true that having children changes a woman so much. Many of my friends and me included, lost all ambitions in life and only cared about raising our children. And it didn’t feel like a sacrifice. It’s true though, that you need a plan b if your spouse doesn’t live up to what he should

I know people who chose this path - before children and they were women who felt joy in creating a sanctuary for their family. I loved being a mom but love actually being a partner with my husband so this wouldn't work for me. I think if a woman makes that choice it's her choice, good for her.

Minute 35:44 , I learned reading my mother’s ”Vogue Patterns” that ”Your dresses should be tight enough to show that You are a woman & loose enough to show that You are a lady!” I think that is a timeless piece of advice😊

When we got married, I did not want the word "obey" in our vows. Now that I have a better understanding of our roles according to the Bible, I am happy to obey. Still a working mom though ❤

If being a housewife was affordable I would love to be a stay home mom. I’m a 32 year old college student. I don’t work because I’m focusing on school.

I think we must separate being a housewife and being a trad wife .... I come from a culture where the mom is more encouraged to be a housewife especially if the father is capable of providing a very stable life style... so my mom grandma and some of my aunts are housewives but its nothing like what its portrayed in this episode .... there is no such thing as servitude and absolute obedience and whatever..... housewife means both the wife and husband stand on equal footing but taking care of different sides of the marriage but doesn't hurt if the father still helps and involves himself in the day to day life of the household and it doesn't mean that the wife should always behave a certain way and doll herself up etc.....

I think that the wife in this documentary is way more intelligent than the husband (2 master’s degrees!) & I get the impression that for her it’s a kind of experiment and she’ll see how long it lasts. I think the husband takes it much more seriously; it suits him just fine, and it’s also advantageous. Unlike the wife, he comes from a Christian culture & he continues the Catholicism he grew up with in South America (and then some… the children having to carry a brick or books on their back if they had misbehaved during the week…doesn’t sound like healthy discipline). Seems like it’s the wife needs to play the whore/mother role in this situation if he needs to grope her (as he says) when he comes home. There has to be a balance between the 1950’s marriage model and this strange 21st century reenactment. I think they would do well to look at a marriage like that of Winston Churchill and his wife Clementine; both strong characters whose marriage lasted almost 60 years & she never shied from offering him advice; in fact he sought her advice & she could be tough with him. The trad wife movement is creepy in that it promotes an unreal (almost doll like) image of a woman.

i agree with some of this. I stayed at home to raise my kids. I saw that as my job, a job just as important or more important than working outside the home.What I don't agree with is the obey thing..not. I am not a child! I think respect and even honouring is enough. Women should have the choice to stay at home with out being criticized for it. We have been forced to have two jobs..work, and then home and children.
