National Geographic Explorer Danielle Lee takes us on a tour of potential research sites around her home in the St. Louis area, sharing her passion for witnessing how wildlife (particularly rodents) thrives in neglected urban spaces-along with the reality of doing fieldwork as a Black scientist and how she hopes to inspire young African Americans to join her.

Wildlife is unified both in the city and outside the city. But the impact of people makes animals and plants adapt to a new environment.

Very intersting podcast episode. I have watched her Ted talk on birds related to OPP song by Naughty by Nature that was fun and informative. The boundaries we create in cities also shape the animals with different hereditary characters. Great to hear about her story.

To anybody who’s reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind right now. May clarity replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life.

I find that with snow, it is easier to see how close wildlife come to humans while we don't even know. There are animal tracks right up and all around human living spaces.

It's a shame the amount of suspicion and harassment she's had to deal with. Her field of study is very interesting. I've been hearing more about how wildlife is adapting to urban centers.
