Jay van Arsdale's Bay Area group, Kezurou-kai, is the only foreign chapter recognized by Japan that is dedicated to preserving the traditional woodworking techniques. "I do pretty good for a white boy, but it's not perfect," van Arsdale says. "There's always something I can do a little better."

Enjoy looking at these kinds of talks on traditional woodworking and how much can be done without metal fasteners and the amount of skill and learning it has for joinery.

There most definitely was not a lot more happy places for everybody in the 1950s. In fact, there were way less happy places in the 1950s for quite a few demographics. Obviously, Jay Van Arsdale did not think very much about that comment before he made it. It should have been edited out.

Everybody in America in the 1950s was far wealthier than anywhere else in the world. It was democrats in the 1950s and 1960s that were pushing the KKK agenda and it is they who are to blame not everybody in America. I hope that helps Julia.

They are not preserving anything they are just role playing. Pretending they are somehow involved in Japanese culture. They would be better of focusing on American traditional woodworking and they could add in a few design details from Japan if they need be.

You forget the entire point of America, the entire point of America is to be the land of opportunity to be the melting pot of the world there is not just American culture there’s Spanish culture, Japanese culture, Canadian culture, British culture, European culture. It’s people like you with your self-centered arrogance that you call “patriotism” that cause so many problems because you forget that this country was built by immigrants so they could be free to make their own choices and practice their own beliefs.

We are all role playing.
@bighands69

@@SP-ki5gn They are not doing japanese carpentry nor have they been raised through the japanese culture of wood working. They are just copying it and pretending they are somehow a part of it. There is nothing wrong with copying japanese methods but that does not make them part of the traditional Japanese woodworking. Anymore than waving a sword around make them a Japanese samurai.
