One of the upsetting things about the killing of Tyre Nichols is how familiar it feels. We keep seeing this kind of police violence. Why does nothing get done? That question brings us to tonight’s Word.

its disgusting that so many commenting on this story blame TYRE for dying, saying "he shouldnt have run, he should have complied", well that is BS. the cops murdered him and should not have. I am betting there is more than we know. I suggest Tyre wronged one of his murderers (like maybe having sex with one of their GF/BF/wives and they took revenge). I hope they get the same "justice" they dispensed. Exactly an eye for an eye.

Amazing the way the mainstream media plucks out a single death at the hands of police (one of 1,200 over the past 12 months) and they immediately start singing the same tune of Systemic Racism. It's not just Colbert. It's across all channels. It's like they're all reading from the same script. They ignore all instances of the poor white guys who get killed by police.. Out of nowhere, they all jump on the bandwagon about Tyre Nichols. It's pure propaganda and brainwashing. Notice how they use his death as a springboard to immediately attack a Republican politician for dumb things he said in a TV interview? Who the hell cares what a congressman from Ohio said? Why are they all focusing on that? How about we focus on the mayor of Memphis and the police department in that city who are responsible for this crime against humanity? Pfft... They don't really care about police brutality... They just want to politicize it and use it to polarise the issue into a Democrats vs Republicans, good vs evil narrative... It's them who are evil.

Dems need to bust the police unions! Meaningful change will not be possible as long as police unions are the most powerful entity in local government. As long as all reform must be approved by the police themselves, no meaningful reform will be possible. We need to repeal the labor relations act of 1935 for police. We need to make all police pension agreements unenforceable beyond the term of the elected official who agreed to them. When Dems let the police run roughshod over them, they are complacent in evil.

You know what's the worst part about Mr. Nichols' murder? Right now, it feels like a normal occurance in American society. Time after time, the police bring brutality and death to those who truly didn't deserve it, and time and time again, no one does anything to solve the issue. And that's what personally infuriates me; that someone, anyone, on the street could've intervened to prevent even more police brutality, but didn't, because either they felt like they couldn't do anything, or, in the case of those in American government, they thought it would help advance their agenda. For Democrats, that agenda is infuriating people to vote for candidates who promise to put a stop to police violence. For Republicans, it's further dividing the country through racist dog whistles and vigilante violence from their own base. But neither party is really getting anything done, and neither are the American people. It makes you ask yourself, where does it stop? When does it end? When will someone, anyone, finally stand up and do the right thing, not because they believe they have to, but because they want to? How many more people have to get killed before the police are finally held accountable for their actions? Right now, the Sesame Street website is offering resources to help kids cope with gun violence. That, right there, might be the most horrifying representation of modern American culture; that police killings in the U.S. are so commonplace right now, that the website for one of, if not the most famous TV show of all time, feels the need to offer resources to help children and their parents through the horrors of what happens every day around them. And while kudos to Sesame Street for actually going out of their way to help kids feel safe, I'm afraid that this initiave will lead to those kids growing up to believe they can't really do anything about gun violence in their country, and in turn, allowing the horrible cycle to continue.

They are either willfully ignorant of this or try to make everybody else forget what the actual saying is. At this point it feels like the whole barrel has been long since spoiled... yet they go ahead and try throwing more apples in to fix the problem. Afterwards they are shocked when more apples turn bad. It is almost as if the foundation those apples are sitting on is rotten to the core...
@hollyann9610
@hollyann9610 Год назад
Thank you! People seem to think the expression means that you shouldn't throw out the whole barrel of apples just because a couple are bad. No one seems to realise that when apples rot, they release a gas that causes all the other fruit around them to rot, and quickly spreads through all the apples like a virus. The saying is supposed to mean that you constantly have to be vigilant about checking for any signs of rot and discarding the effected ones immediately. Of course, conservatives don't like this version of the expression, because it would mean getting rid of racist cops the minute they step out of line, so it's like they've created a new interpretation.

How about we put the blame where it belongs; on Joe Biden. You realize, of course, that Joe Biden could simply sign an executive order instructing the Justice Department to issue new and better guidelines for police forces, right? That as the Chief Executive, every police force technically falls under the President's responsibility and supervision, and he could direct the funds from the Justice Department today to pay for the reforms. Why doesn't he? Why won't he? Why has Biden decided to do nothing? Those are the questions you should be asking. And if you are still intent on putting the blame on members of Congress, then should we discuss why Nancy Pelosi never brought the reforms up for a vote during the last 2 years when she had a clear majority in the House, a Democrat led Senate to work with, and a President who would have signed anything she sent to him. I know, I know, "filibuster, filibuster, filibuster", right? except that it wouldn't have applied here. The Democrats could easily have passed these reforms through both houses and put it on Joe Biden's desk to sign. Why didn't they? Why did the Democrats decide to do nothing? @@killerjoke2945 What exactly did you want him to do? He's one member of half a branch of a third of the federal government, and police training standards are done at the state level, not the federal level. Would you like him to introduce a law that would make it illegal for a police officer to beat a suspect to death? Cause I'm pretty sure that's already against the law, which was Jordan's point in the first place; passing new laws doesn't make someone obey the law if they were already intent on breaking existing laws in the first place.
