I'm really pleased with this! It works like a charm ru-vid.comUgkxDcr-y2Pf6xdnrFHrSP7dl9kpKaCozcSQ Takes less time than my old electric sharpener because it can take more off the knife faster, and then it smooths out nicely with the finer grit polisher. I don't know how long it will last before the grit wears away, but I wouldn't mind having to replace it every once in a while.
I used the lansky kit for a while. Had some success… took a long time for me to get a burr on most of my blades. Then I got this system a couple weeks ago and wow! It’s awesome for me. My knives have NEVER been this sharp. now all my knives a straight HAIR POPPERS!
@@matthuck378 I've got the Smiths version of the lansky and it's got diamond Stones had it for a few years it works pretty well but I really want to try this system out I think I paid about 50 or 60 for what I have now so it'll be about the same price the stones are a bit wider on the Smiths which works well for larger knives like my chef's knives.
@@jameswhoever3730 I don't think you will regret it. The only limitation is large knives. It can get them done but it will just be more difficult. pocket knives are all good to go though.
I appreciate this review as a person with tremors and shaking hands this is what I was hoping you'd say. It looked like something I could replicate a good edge without a lot of extra work. I no longer have precision hands but I love my knives and want to keep a good edge on them myself. I've never trusted sharpening them to anyone else. Thank you.
FYI: you can equip this with a 4” stone holder from gritomatic to use venev “dog” diamond matrix stones which are much better than the included ones. I sharpen m390, s30v and d2 no issues at all
I also heard they were releasing a 6" holder but I don't think it's going to perform any better because of the limited rod travel and compact size of the blade holder anyways. With the 4" stone I was able to sharpen a esee 6 but required 2 repositions. Venev dog stones are dirt cheap and IMO best stone for the $$ in the market. I have over 20 Al oxide stones that I no longer touch anymore except for the occasional kitchen knife chipped edge... different grit stroping compounds and leather, what for? 800 grit side of the "dog" leaves a near mirror finish. It's amazing.
It’s a brilliant concept for sharpening a knife. Especially for those who find hand sharpening difficult. The simple fact is- if used properly this system cannot fail because the angle is so precise.
I was just looking at this sharpener and trying to decide if I wanted to give it a go. Perfect timing! Thank you for your reviews, they add value to a lot of people's buying decisions!
Just ordered them last night. Can’t wait for the upgrade. Great system as is but with with 4’ stones, higher grits and strop attachment, super excited about it.
Couldn’t agree more! I’ve had mine since Christmas and other than serrations, and my Medford, it sharpens all of my 200 plus knives. It even manages recurves like my Tac-Raze, as the stones are narrow and abrasive right to the edge. It can also do a pretty good mirror edge, if you have the time and a strop.
Excellent review. Been using this sharpener for a few months, after getting a couple as gifts for my daughter & brother for Christmas. Very happy with it. I hope they come out with more grits for it. That would make it a dominant sharpening system.
I got given one of these for Christmas and immediately ordered the new upgrade kit. I'm a moderately experienced sharpener and have a good collection of stones and diamond plates, strops etc but I love how tidy and relatively compact this system is. It will consistently put exactly the same angle edge on most knives. Two very useful features are that it does a great job on some of my Japanese knives with different angles on each side also allows you to put incredibly sharp secondary bevels on some wider angled blades. All in all I think this is a brilliant piece of kit. Keep up the good work Nick. Thanks for your wonderfully informative and entertaining videos.
Had a kme for years, got rid of it due to lack of use and interest in knives for a while. As I am getting back into knives, this is one of my first purchases back into it. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw it on Amazon. A few years ago, kme was the most economical option. This looks fantastic and, as always, thank you Nick, for incredible and comprehensive reviews!
Good 👍 Job Nick, it is my next purchase. Just what I was looking for. Also, it is small enough for me to move anywhere in my workshop. Can you recommend a sharping system for my swords? Love your videos.
My hat is off to Worksharp. I have 2 of their sharpeners, and I've been really pleased with both of them. They make it so practically anyone who wants to can put an excellent edge on a knive with minimal skill or effort. No one else is doing this kinda thing at this price, and their customer service is just outstanding. Anyone looking for a highly portable sharpener should just buy the Worksharp field Sharpener straight away. It is amazing, and anyone can do it with no skill.
I have been using one of these since April and it is amazingly efficient at profiling a knife and fixing issues from where someone has poorly sharpened a knife in the past (my father did more damage to a knife edge despite it having the ability to shave - I don't know how he did that). This has been my new gem and it works great as a part of the process that includes a surgical black Arkansas stone and a strop.
Another issue: due to the width of the clamp, you cannot put a very thin edge on blades with very short height. If trying to put a thin edge on a 940, you will be grinding the clamp. Other than that, pretty excellent for the price.
I modified my clamp...very heavily with a file, to ge it to where I could do my SAK blade. You're exactly right, the clamp handles narrow blades and shallow angles poorly.
I can clamp in a Rat5 so that's thick enough for anything I own. I can also do 8" chef knives without moving the clamp. Need to pull out & flip since rotating will hit the table. Finally, my magnetic rod holder rarely pops out seems solid. Love this system.
Happy to report that they may have made some production refinements. For example where the magnetic axle for the slide bar clips in, my example holds in place firmly with no wobble. Also the back tension of the socket that the rotating blade clamp slots into, can be adjusted so that it does hold the blade clamp firmly with no wobble. It is a superb system!
Got it last night and stayed up sharpening everything from my chefs knife, my damascus solstice, and my spydiechef just to name a few! The edges are a bit better than what i was doing freehand, but i am encouraged by how close my whetstone sharpening was! Plus one major reason i wanted this was to re-profile, which was something i think im a long ways off of being able to do with regular stones
I used the Lansky for a long time and like this new PA a lot. I bought some lapping films with a holder on Ebay and finished several of my blades with those. I always strop BC its fun and the edges get extremely shiny.
@@55gopi first time lowering the angle of bevel took about 15mins. I use water for all 3 stones, I'll use sawing motion for reprofiling with the 320 side. Raise a bur on both sides,..then 30,20,10,5,3,1 push passes per side with all 3 grits. Makes for a wicked sharp edge. If just touching up I'll only use push strokes...sawing leaves a gnarly scratch pattern but removes stock quickly... that's why i follow saw motion with push strokes after. 5-10mins for touch-ups.
There are self adhesive lapping film available that can be cut to fit the ceramic stone and a large amount of grits will make achieving a mirror polish pretty easy.
I got one of these this week. It sharpens well. It is much, much easier than the Spyderco Sharpmaker. The bevel is a little uneven looking due to the sawing motion. I might be able to do better with more sharpening time, but I want to conserve blade steel. The clamp gets in the way for the thinner blades.
Very happy with my Precision Adjust Knife Sharpener. My only complaint is that the push button rotation mechanism was so stiff that it wasn’t functional. No big deal. It is just as easy to pull out the knife holder and insert it the other direction. After having the system for a few months the mechanism finally loosened up to the point that I can rotate it. Overall, a great system at a bargain price. I still use my Sharpmaker for quick touch ups but the Precision Adjust is more versatile.
This is a great sharpening system built very well , I upgraded to a 3D printed slide to add fine tuning also a piece to place under the jaws to stop the flexing but none of the upgrades are needed it’s great right out the box for getting knifes razor sharp , I just like my knifes hair popping sharp
I Love mine! Just the right size and all I need to get my knives quickly sharpened at a consistent angle. And it’s cheap! I hope some of the other manufacturers take a hint and make a similarly priced sharpener.
Thanks for the honest reviews! I just ordered one mainly because I'm no good with a stone and have little time or patience to learn lol. I do have an electric sharpener for my kitchen knives but my pocket knives won't fit usually. Love the channel keep it up!
I have one that I generally like but I do wish it had more grits to choose from or the opportunity to buy different grits. I would like an 800, 1000, 1200.
Yeah the ceramic is supposedly 3000 and my VG10 blade doesn't like that. I decided to finish with the 600 for the toothy finish but an 800 or 1000 would be perfect.
@@franksalem8580 that’s pretty cool. I hope worksharp offers some options to purchase but if not this is great for about an extra $35-40 bucks or so. Id happily buy another triple stone if they offer it.
Nick I've had this unit now for about a year zero complaints. I've done about 60 knives and have about 200 hundred more to go and I am shocked that the rubber in the jaws has not fallen apart . As to factory angels I have found none to be spot on even as to the unit angels they are spot on I went down to a local machine shop a friend owns and we put the unit on the comparator and that rod is spot on. I love it as fare as I can see out there in the sharpening world the best bang for the buck. Happy trails
The real big "ugly" for me on this is that you cannot really sharpen slim blades much under 25° because you gonna hit the clamps with the stone. So for knives with slim blades, you will be forced to put a rather steep cutting edge on them. Which is a bummer because it would have been absolutely possible to make the clamps less thick.
I really enjoy mine. It's my first real sharpener aside from their handheld Field sharpener. It makes the process easy for those of us too lazy to dig in to all the techniques and whatnot. It's pretty straightforward, easy to use, controls for mistakes you'd otherwise likely make, gives nice results, and comes at a great price. I like that the stones are cheap to replace.
@@kimleith1378 They sell replacement plates so yes, but they're on there with some kind of adhesive, so I guess you've got to pry them off and then maybe they come with a backing adhesive? They also sell an upgrade kit with more grits.
@@JustKnifeThings Hey Nick thanks. I ordered a 3D printed holder that accepts other stones. Also some "lapping tape" that has adhesive backing. Hoping to get lots of practice learning how to use this whole set up.
Nice review. Relative to a sharpener with only rods this would be a big step up real sharpening vs. touching up an edge. Like most fixed angle sharpeners this one is missing a thickness compensator for the stones. It could be their stones are all so thin that it doesn't matter enough. I like that they reduced the learning curve by having only 4 stones on the rotating thingy. I would liked them to use a standard stone size so they could be swapped out for others. That may have pushed up the price and maybe is too complex for an entry level system.
Absolutely agree with everything you said. Hands down can’t beat this for the price. And I’m sure as time goes on they produce different rods with different grits and lapping films, hopefully
This one sees more use now than my KME, EdgePro, SharpMaker, or bench stones. A bit of flex on the clamp assembly, a little bracing with the other hand helps. Worth way more than fifty bucks for my EDC rotation. Nice review, Nick! 🗡️👍🔥
@@55gopi Smaller, more compact, magnetic rod and clamp system and integrated three stone turreting abrasives. Also precision height adjustment is superior to systems where you need to loosen a screw and slide the height adjustment up and down. Precision adjuster on the Worksharp is exactly that - precision and quick! 👍🗡️
@nick, thanks for the review - I just ordered the "Elite" version! A bunch of your issues have been resolved with their introduction of the "Elite" version - it has a storage/carrying case and comes with more grits. I got distracted and forgot some of your other issues, but those two stick out off the top of my head.
I like mine. I purchased it earlier this year. One possible consideration: unlike the one in Nick's video (and in other videos and internet images), mine has a black plastic piece attaching the rod to the ball joint that magnetically connects to the main unit. This has not caused any issues, but I do wonder if it is going to be less durable than the others, which appear to be metal.
I had this unit but I had an issue with the triangle holder. It would hit the end of the knee on the blade and couldn’t get the stone to touch the full cutting edge.
It was very hard to get replacement stones for these in europe but it seems boker germany is getting them in now. Been using this for 8 months or so i find it an amazing system! Way sharper results then like ken onion belt or so.
Biggest complaint after using it a few months, it doesnt sharpen all the way to the ricasso on most spyderco knives, i have sanded down the stone holder near the stone and replaced the stone adhesive with some taller double sided tape and now it can sharpen right to the base. The gritomatic addon for this will fix that though
I was having trouble rationalizing forking over $700 for a wicked edge when I heard about this system. I waited and got one and it will do 99% of what those other systems will do. My only complaint is that they don’t have a ton of stones that you can use. It is a steal for $50. It took me 5 minutes to sharpen S35VN and around 20 minutes to do S110V. I sharpened a few Microtech knives with M390 and Elmax and it took 10-12 minutes before they were razor sharp. Nicks review is spot on.
It's handling knives like my Endura and Benchmade 710s very. My Lansky rid set did nothing for that D2. This is no problem with the diamonds. I just did an ESEE 6. The weight of that blade pulls it forward. But wasn't a big deal to hold it. My Buck 119 Special is about the limit for length without having to reclamp. I'm gonna try my Junglas, knowing I will have to reclamp. For me there was a learning curve, it took a few knives to start getting results, but I got there. I was being too gentle at first, for fear of wrecking my knives. I haven't wreck a single knife 🙂 The magnetic rod works great for. So that's not a minus in my experience. I really like the system and the results I am getting. It was like $70 Canadian in sale at Cabela's Christmas 2022. I'm very pleased. This is just what I needed for my collection of dull folders. I'd love a version for big choppers. I have an Ontario SP8 that needs some love.
I want one, and I feel bad for spending 60-something on a Spyderco system that seems worse in almost every way...Aside from being able to handle recurves and serrations, which I don't have any of in my pocket knife collection.
You can get a mirror edge with this sharpener by using polish paper. You can stick it to the ceramic stone by using thin double sided 3M tape. You can reuse the paper by storing it to a peace of baking paper. This works very well.
Thanks Nick. Video answered all my questions. I'm new to sharpening. Just ordered this system. Can you swap out the stones with other styles, grits, sizes etc?
I've used this system for a couple months and got really good edges my only issue is if you were to try and Sharpen a traditional knife or per say a ckrt ceo it doesn't handle blades that thin well the stone will crash into clamp not allowing you to sharpen the edge whitch was very annoying but for any thing with some size it works beautiful I've used it on a Kershaw launch 11 but anything thinner you might find problems and just clarifying by thin ness I'm referring to the length from the edge to the spine of the knife not the blade stock 😅
I’ve sharpened over 100 knives with the WS. The system works well. I’ve modified it quite a lot-eliminating most of the “bad” traits you rightly pointed out.
first few minutes in i thought that i left my TV open on the Auction house tv show. your speaking very Auction house style way hehe :). that being said, great video thanks :)
It's not a KME killer, but it's very capable for what it is. If I didn't already have the KME, I probably would get this. The price is reasonable. It could use additional grits plus leather.
Love mine. Got myself some heavier sandpaper and cut it into strips for when I really need to "hog" off material. Also, ebay there is a kit for honing paper and a 3d printed triangle... Thing? Anywho, using the base kit, then that, you can get a pretty damned shiney edge for only a hair more cash. Done some 20ish knives with mine already and it's made me far more of an edge snob than befor lol
Love everything about this sharpener except for the clamp. When you try to sharpen bigger/thicker blades the clamp cannot accommodate them which makes it impossible to use for those (i.e. a Strider SMF).
The Precision Elite with some aftermarket accessories like the clamp stabilizer, 4 to 6 inch stone holder and table clamp as well as a set of good stones and strops, is a better choice. For about $300 ( most of that from the bonded diamond stones I bought) you can have a system that will last forever and can sharpen almost any knife in any steel with very few limitations, which are mainly with smaller knife sizes.
i have this and for the life of me cant get a really sharp edge. i've tried like 10 times. looked up angles for spyderco amd everything.. it doesnt cut paper like you show.. i dunno.. i think this was gonna be easier than freehand but im achieving the same result. VG-10 blade and N690Co
Hi Nick I am looking for a sharpener like this. I have a Spyderco Sharp Maker and that is good but I struggle keeping the angle. I have a whetstone and the same deal. This is why I am thinking about a fixed angel sharpener. What would you say is the best system in your opinion please? Many thanks Gray - in the UK
Sharp, pretty and ultra precise... KME, TSPROF Blitz360. Great review Nick I think the product has a place in the market you just have to know who you are before you buy one. Thanks again for the video much appreciated. 😎👍
I’ve been contemplating one of those for a while. I have an Apex which I love but it’s getting old. If the magnet is strong I may try to find a second hand one. Great Full Shabazz review and stay safe my Friend Semper Fidelis
