Created in 1977, The World's Strongest Man™ has become the premier event in strength athletics. For over 30 years, the strongest men on the planet have come together in a series of unique and amazing tests of strength to determine The World's Strongest Man. The competition has travelled to stunning and varied locations such as Zambia, Iceland, Mauritius, Malaysia, Morocco, China and the USA.
For over three decades The World's Strongest Man has tested the limits of human strength, power, and endurance. The best strongmen on the planet and the most demanding challenges including Fingal's Fingers, Truck Pull, Dead Lift, Giant Farmers Walk, Plane Pull and the Atlas Stones have made the event a highlight in the TV calendar and the show a family favourite with a worldwide audience of over 220 million people.

I remember watching this first WSM competition when I was twenty. The bar bend was particularly enjoyable because Bruce Wilhelm never missed an opportunity to disrespect the bodybuilders and seeing him finish last to little 180 pound Franco with Lou coming in first was great.
@TruthTellert63
@TruthTellert63 5 лет назад
Indeed it was. Lardass Wilhelm owes American Weightlifting an apology, as there's no telling how many prospective weightlifters went in the direction of bodybuilding due to his stupid-ass comments. (He redeemed himself a little with an article he did a couple of years ago, but it doesn't undo the harm he did back then.)

I see his strength far surpassed the limit of his body... It was 1977... The joint... the bones... couldn't stand the weight which his muscle can handle well. If he had had just a little bigger body frame, things would have been very different... He was a strongman after all... I bet he would still do it again even he had the chance. Nevermind the injury: The doctors said he would never lift weight again, he joined bodybuilding and proved them wrong.

Hồng Nguyệt Hồ Ngọc He said in later interview that it wasnt the weight of refrigerator ( 275-300ibs) it was the distribution and a mistep..he routinely squatted 500+ lbs.Your therory is a valid one, just not in the case.

@Ronny Sterling Modern day bodybuilders are stronger then they were back then, see the clips of Ronnie Coleman lifting heavy. Modern day strongmen are way stronger than any bodybuilders, because they train completely for strenght.
@anzaeria

@@linushforsberg8385 Franco Columbo was not just into body building but power lifting as well. So he trained for strength as well as muscle building. And besides, modern day body builders aren't necessarily stronger than the body builders of this time period. It depends on the individual and what other type of weight training they do.

If they had the Same Exact Strong Men Events of Today than Lou and Franco being very Strong and Athletic would done Much Better in the World's Strongest Man... the Incredible Lou Ferrigno actually Beat all of these Powerlifters and Weightlifters in the Car Deadlift and Franco would have Won the Refrigerator Carry Race if his Bowlegged Knee didn't Dislocate
