That’s just a rephrasing of Dawkins’s “we are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones”. He deserves an olympic medal for those levels of mental gymnastics. I’m not surprised about his recent coming out as a “cultural Christian”; he has more in common with Jordan Peterson than he thinks. For me as a musician, it also doesn’t help that one of my primary influences - Nightwish, and their spiritual successors Epica - both seem to have fallen down the pronatalist rabbit hole and pretty much exclusively make songs about this topic now. I can only listen to any song from “Endless Forms Most Beautiful” or “Omega” onwards by imagining them in context of my sci-fi story - in which these songs represent the characters’ initial misbeliefs, which are then refuted by the events of the story over the course of the plot.

Brilliant video again Lawrence. I find it so depressing that most humans actually dont understand simple things perfectly explained to them, simply because they dont like what is real. Its like their braines just dont want to cope with some facts. People subconsciously pick a pleasant point of view and stick with that no matter what. And the smaller rational segment of the population doesnt procreate, so the future is just set in stone by those procreators. We will procreate until the Sun burns out, but I imagine that videos like this can change a few peoples minds.

I share your concern about focusing on the environmental impact of procreation, and it's a concern I have about too much emphasis on the environmental impact of animal agriculture as well - because it implies that if certain types of animal agriculture were less environmentally damaging than plant farming on average, it would be good. I also think it might encourage people to consume more fishes and chickens thus increasing farmed animal suffering.
@LawrenceAnton

Agreed! Whilst it is important to be concerned about the environment and how its degradation impacts both humans and other animals, it has become fetishised in recent years so that environmentalism seems to be a go-to lens through which to understand a whole range of issues. Leena Norms had a great childfree video a few months ago that I wholeheartedly agreed with. I think she has been misinterpreted here, maybe? Her latest video confused me about what her stance was, at first, then I figured she was just doing a "Devil's Advocate" thinking-aloud video? Because I thought her stance was heavily CF and slightly AN (but she might not be aware of the AN movement?) Maybe this video needs to first be viewed through the lens that she IS actually childfree. I think she is trying to educate herself from both sides, which is really great actually, and more people should do that. The best thing to do would be to reach out and chat, find out where she is actually coming from.... though, I do agree, without context, it is kind of confusing what she is trying to say here.

Yes she is childfree, and mentions this at the beginning of the original video. This woman is a bit frustating to listen to. When she implied that she thinks it's dumb for people who choose not to have kids because the kids may not have a good life like the parents, I rolled my eyes. She's missing the point. No one has Any Idea how their childrens lives will be and they will eventually have to die. Some deaths are slow and painful, some are terrifying. She has no idea if these kids even want to exist in the first place. She's completely guessing if someone wants to be here or not. She thinks all kids who are brought into this world will be "okay" at the very least even if they don't have similar lives to their parents. This person doesn't give two fucks about the Rare People who come into this world with health problems like anxiety, schizophrenia, rare disorders like homocystinuria (the latter is something I likely have since I have a bent sternum and am neurodivergent) and a multitude of other health issues that people can be born with as well as get later on in their lives. Plus there's ptsd from toxic people and bad experiences that can cause our kids harm while living. She's clueless and it's a shame she doesn't take things like this into consideration, or if she did/does in the future, I can't help but think she's going to say... Additionally, urban white people not having kids is immediately annuled by the hundreds of millions of Africans having 7-8 kids.
