The World Mosquito Program (WMP) is a not-for-profit that works to protect the global community from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever and chikungunya.
Following decades of laboratory research, independent risk analysis and successful field trials, WMP has undertaken deployments in 11 countries
across three continents with widespread support from communities, governments and regulators.

Miraculous work. I pray you never sell out to anthropocentric/profit-driven firms which may shelve or taint the natural, biorational and bioethical merit of this wonderful technology.

Please suggest on how we get this initiative in India? Last year many children were lost to a 'mysterious ' fever where platelets depleted... Those who got tested, often tested positive for Dengue.... Please suggest how I can have this program initiated in my community atleast

We're sorry to hear this. Dengue affects children in a devastating way. We'll continue to work with governments around the world in order to protect more people from mosquito-borne diseases. In the future, we plan to expand to more countries.

So when a mosquito with the Wolbachia virus gets infected with the dengue virus, humans don't get infected with the dengue virus, right? But what happens when mosquitoes bite other creatures?
@SladkaPritomnost
@SladkaPritomnost 10 месяцев назад
Wolbachia seems to suppress dengue virus in insects. Insect with Wolbachia cannot infect other animals including human with dengue virus. I read similar effect with Zika and yellow fever viruses!
@WorldMosquitoProgram
@WorldMosquitoProgram 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for your interest in our work. It's important to clarify that Wolbachia is actually a naturally occurring bacterium, not a virus. When mosquitoes carrying Wolbachia are infected with the dengue virus, their ability to transmit the virus to humans is greatly reduced. This is a crucial part of our Wolbachia method at WMP. Additionally, Wolbachia is safe for other creatures; it specifically targets insects and doesn't affect mammals, birds, or other wildlife. So, there's no risk to other animals when these mosquitoes bite them. For more accurate and detailed information about Wolbachia and its role in preventing mosquito-borne diseases, please visit our website: www.worldmosquitoprogram.org/en/learn/faqs

Not safe, but eliminate..
@WorldMosquitoProgram
@WorldMosquitoProgram 6 месяцев назад
Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts. The World Mosquito Program's primary focus is on safety and efficacy. Our Wolbachia method is proven to be safe for both humans and the environment. It aims to reduce the population of disease-carrying mosquitoes, thereby lowering the incidence of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. This method doesn't eliminate mosquitoes but instead reduces the risk they pose to human health. For more information on our safety measures and program outcomes, feel free to visit our FAQ page: www.worldmosquitoprogram.org/en/learn/faqs

Is there long term study what will happen with that backteria inside human body? You must have the vaccine then😅
@WorldMosquitoProgram
@WorldMosquitoProgram 6 месяцев назад
Thanks for your question. Wolbachia is a natural bacteria already present in over 50% of all insect species, and the World Mosquito Program's use of it has been thoroughly researched for many years, ensuring safety for humans and the environment. To address your query, our Wolbachia method does not infect humans or animals. For more detailed insights into our safety studies and how our Wolbachia method works, please visit our website: www.worldmosquitoprogram.org/en/learn/faqs

Hi Bill, our Wolbachia mosquitoes are a safe, natural and effective way to prevent mosquito-borne diseases. The Wolbachia method has been developed over decades through rigorous research. If you'd like to learn more about our method you can do so here: www.worldmosquitoprogram.org/en/work/wolbachia-method

so why couldn’t we just research for decades how to get rid of mosquitos all together like who benefits from this
@WorldMosquitoProgram
@WorldMosquitoProgram Год назад
@@GetBusyDrift Although an appealing idea, eliminating all mosquitoes from a city or country is not possible. Regardless of the technique used to reduce mosquito populations, continuous applications are required otherwise the mosquito numbers will quickly increase again. Since mosquitoes transmit harmful viruses, we have been researching a method which can prevent them from transmitting these viruses to people - and our method only needs to be applied once for ongoing protection.
