Had to come back to this after learning of the passing of Christopher Plummer, the narrator. Rest In Peace, good sir, and thanks for being a part of one of my favorite childhood shows.

Man I love the sound of the 80's

Its crazy how just listening to this song brought me to tears. Even after all these years, something as simple and clean as David the Gnome is enough to evoke that kind of emotion. Kids today will never understand what it was like to grow up in the 80s with shows like this.

a 36 year old grown ass man, sitting in my office, working, and randomly get in this convo with a co-worker about the 80s and I remembered this show and I hear I am. I hear "Toads and wizards and fairy kings, birds that talk, and fish that sing" and I lost my shit. Bawling like a baby.

Man do I love those "sparky" synths and music production from the late 80s/early 90s. You just don't hear anything so whimsical any more.

I did not grow up with this. I have zero connection to this show. I was literally just introduced to it through a Mike Matei stream. Fell asleep to his screaming about Ninia Turtles, only to find myself half awake to him singing his own little cover of this needlessly beautiful song. After seeing the real video, I have to say, this song is weirdly captivating. I can't shake off the wistfulness it brings, and it feels like I've known this my entire life. Truly special!

They don't make cartoons like this anymore. The theme song practically brings a tear to my eye.

I see this intro now and I am so proud of myself for liking a show like this as such a young kid. This is a beautiful opening theme and a great show. Not every kids show tries very hard to be profound like this. I'm sure my parents were happy to see me watching something like this too. That and they knew Tom Bosley from Happy Days. But for me, he was David the Gnome first and Mr C. later on when they had it on Nick At Nite reruns.

If you were off/home from school as a kid in the late 80's/early 90's This was the only cartoon there was to watch at the time. (after Maya The Bee.)

Last time I saw this cartoon I was in HS and stayed home sick. There were a few select NICKELODEON children shows that I enjoyed and this is definitely one of them!

I remember watching this really early in the morning when my grandma would babysit me. David the gnome was awesome.

I haven't heard this in 35 years, but I remember the lyrics like it was yesterday. This was one of the first shows I remember watching.

Every time I listen to this, it makes me tear up just a little. So glad to read all these other comments and see I'm not alone.

This reminds me so much of my mom, who I lost almost a decade ago (I was only 27 and she was only 57) to cancer. She gave me and my sister the most wonderful childhood and I had forgotten about David the Gnome until seeing someone post about it on a 90s nostalgia page on FB. I cried just hearing this song, because I was so young when I used to watch this with my mom and for a split second I could close my eyes and she was here with me again. 🥺❤️

OMG....I have not heard this theme song in like 28yrs! when it came on I even remembered some of the lyrics...I'm a 36 year old man and I almost teared up because these cartoons were so dear to me! Children don't have these to watch anymore

I used to watch David the Gnome on Nick Jr when I was in elementary school. Such wonderful memories of childhood summers.

the guy singing this theme song kinda sounds like clay aiken. this brings back such fond memories of my childhood days sitting in front of the tv and singing along to almost every cartoon that graced the screen.

This was my favorite show ever. I love the nostalgia.

This and the gummi bears intro give a nostalgia wave like nothing else. Every month or so I need to hear it and it makes me feel an equal mix of happy and sad at the same time.

Trolls and Wizards and Fairy kings, birds that talk and fish that sing, and if your heart is true then you will find them too. In every wish and dream and happy home you will find the Kingdom of THE GNOME! Will be 34 on Dec.4th and still coming here to blast and sing this shit

OMG😪 When I was little my granddad would pick me up from our community swimming pool and keep me til mom got off and he would make me a fried bologna sandwich and I got to sit in the living room and watch this show. He made me sit on a little bed sheet spread out in the floor cause my grandma would have a heart attack if I dropped a crumb on the floor. Rest in peace granddaddy!!! I miss you SO much!!! 😭

I'm very grateful to have grown up watching this beautiful series, and I feel sorry for kids these days who were given travesties like Gnomeo and Juliet and Sherlock Gnomes.
