BUT IM HERE, with a new video going WAY into a subject that I never thought we'd have enough games for. But well... I guess it happened. If y'all know any other Minecraft Clones worth looking at, lemme know down below! Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna go play Vintage Story. This thing rules.
Bought it as a joke, stumbled upon a server with a dev teaching new players. Me and a friend proceeded to annoy said dev and players for about an hour until they quit. Not proud, but it happened, ohh to be a horrible little kid again.
I used to love Trove so much. The ability to move your own base around anywhere in the map instantly was super cool to me. There was also a class with a grappling hook and needless to say I loved that hook.
I hadn't played in so long.. Somehow my game 2pild just be extremely laggy. In top of that I remember being in a guild I made but then some friends grieffed the template t and I tried to rebuy but but discovered the price was abysmally high... I should try it again. It was relaxing but yeah it was very very sluggish for me too
Something not mentioned when talking about Vintage Story, and Vintagecraft respectively- is that both are actually also somewhat based off of an older Minecraft mod called TerraFirmaCraft that has a lot of the same designs that VS took inspiration from- with a few changes of course to make it a bit less convoluted compared to TFC. It was actually really fun revisiting TFC while using a VR Minecraft mod because it was so nice sitting in a little thatch hut working on tools to pass the night.
@@LazyBuddyBan Honestly I’ve got no clue there lol, I mostly just recall seeing a section of VS’ Q&A page wherein they stated they took inspiration from TFC
I used to play a game called Eden World Builder. It was a fairly basic Minecraft clone for Mobile devices but it had some pretty cool ideas like sliding blocks, trampoline blocks and corner blocks. You could also color liquids any way you wanted. There was a lot of fairly impressive user generated content too. One thing that always stuck with me with that game was that it had a weirdly eerie vibe to it. You couldn't die, but there was barely any music so it was just very silent most of the time. There where Monsters too, but they didn't really do anything. Whole game feels like one giant liminal space at times. Out of all the more blatant Minecraft Clones, Eden is the only one I still think about from time to time.
I played that game before the monsters, I remember the day they added playing in online world submissions/downloads too. Most annoying part of that game was I would build a base in superflat then have no idea what direction it was in because everything was the same flatness.
I know this is just a list of games but you really undersold Vintage story. It's the biggest breath of fresh air in the cube genre since Minecraft itself. The devs are extremely passionate about their product and it shows. The depth of crafting is unparalleled and frankly I haven't been addicted to a Minecraft style game this hard since I got my shiny new copy of Xbox 360 MC.
One of the funniest things about this video to me is most of these alternative takes on Minecraft can be also found directly in Minecraft through the modding scene. RPG mods, PvE focused adventure survival maps, shooters, farm and quest focused stuff, even space I've (and played) almost all of these kinds of things just as mods in the real deal and they're usually really good.
There's something called minetest, It's an open-source clone with the premise of the player deciding the content. It has a solid modding community and is available for all OSs.
I have roughly 300 hours Vintagestory. It is a good game, but the only thing it shares with Minecraft is the look. Overall, it is much closer to Don't Starve than Minecraft. The first winter is spent sitting in your house, trying not to starve or freeze to death. Your food spoils, so you have to get a lot of it and find a way to make it last, including airtight underground chambers, salt and just charring pies until they are almost inedible. And hope you got enough firewood, because days are a lot shorter during the winter and it will be risky to get more. PLENTY of time to craft at home, or just take it all in. It runs in wallpaper mode.
Total miner forge was my JAM it was a blast, you could build a store and trade items, I would get a stack of wood and build some doors them sell the doors and buy wood with the money which would yield me more wood than I started with, build more doors sell, repeat, infinite moneys. Ahh man the memories. You've earned a nostalgia like for bringing it up.
15:02 actually shat myself at the mention of cubecrator I played the demo of this thing all the time because i didnt have the game I unironically loved it so much. i still have like 5 or 3 trials left and i dont think i’ll ever open it
I'm kind of surprised you didn't mention "3d Dot Heroes", it was developed by "From Software" & "Silicon Studios" and originally came out for the PS3. It was actually pretty cool game that while was clearly inspired by Minecraft did more than enough to stand out as it's own game, with a unique story and some cool gameplay mechanics. Definitely something to check out if your looking for a Mincraft fix but are tired of Minecraft, or if your just interested in a cool Sandbox RPG with a interesting story and mechanics. Personally, I sorta wrote it off as a Minecraft clone...But was kind of drawn to it and when I played I was really surprised to see how different and how fun it actually turned out to be. I'm so happy that I did choose to get it and play it back then. But I just wish it was more popular and successful, so it could have a chance at getting a sequel which I don't think will ever happen unfortunately as the game didn't really do well, even though it had decent reviews and grew a sizeable cult following for it after a while. I guess like myself people just wrote it off as a generic cash grab clone of Minecraft, when it really isn't and has so much more to offer.
I remember playing castleminer z and finding out the world loops around. And if you walk far enough you could find the rarest of minerals just laying in the open
I went into this video thinking "oh I wonder if he'll mention SurvivalCraft, that clone game I used to play on my Kindle Fire all the time when I was younger." And I was a LITTLE sad that it wasn't brought up because it was actually good, but I was NOT disappointed by the DRAGONS QUEST BUILDERS MENTION HELL YEAH I LOVE BUILDERS THE SEQUEL IS LEGITIMATELY ONE OF MY FAVORITE GAMES OF ALL TIME
One of my favorite Minecraft alternatives is Aground! It's only 2d and has a branching story to follow so it holds my attention much better than "literally just do whatever" lol
Ace of Spades is the best non-minecraft minecraft game I've ever played, and Jagex ruined it! RUINED IT! Seriously, it was an amazing game, and there's still server's that you can play today on third party sources. If you can, go and play some rounds, it's really fun, and surprisingly tactical for what it is. You can find it under the name Build and Shoot, running classic servers in the original style and feel. Great stuff, 10/10 game and 10/10 port.
my first taste of minecraft was in eden: world builder on my 4th gen ipod touch, i loved it, minecraft pocket edition wasn't quite out yet, but someone recommended minebuilder. i really loved that game on m phone, i made lots of bases and had lots of fun, right up until they introduced the giant exploding spiders that kept on wrecking my bases, by then pocket edtion was out and despite the limited worlds it was still cool enough to keep me playing. i also dabbled in survivalcraft and discovery. alhough once i go minecraft on my 360 playing any of these mobile versions seemed awkward.and once i got it on my vita and now switch i have no real reason to play on my phone anymore (although minecraft is still one of the firstgames i put on my phone as soon as i get it.
My favorite Minecraft clone was a game with the name along the lines of "Block World", it was free on I think the Microsoft store on our HP computer and for months I built around exactly where I spawned because I didn't know I had to use WASD to move, I remember there were blocks I had to pay to use with names like "Gothic" for some of them, I wish I remembered it's name
Murderminers, Castleminer Z and Minecraft, and terraria. the four games that had blocks that i played way too much when i was younger... I played most of them when they released too.. On that 360.. Man i feel old
I remember the game Don't Starve being a thing for awhile. Now it seems to lean heavily into the co-op version called Don't Starve Together. Honestly surprised it didn't get a passing mention.
Speaking of Dragon Quest, I swear that each Dragon Quest game has its own set of clones. Like most JRPGs are either Dragon Quest II or Dragon Quest IV clones.
There's this one specific minecraft clone on Google play that fizzled out of existence. It's gone but it wasn't a direct minecraft clone too. I lowkey wanted to get it, I don't remember the name and there is videos on RU-vid but it was like minecfaft pocket edition but in space, specifically mars. It's actually nonexistent now, there's stuff like linacraft, space craft but they weren't it. It was red, everything was red and it was always night from the screen shots. Damn
I guess this one is technically more of a Terraria clone than a Minecraft one, but I really liked Junk Jack. It had a cute and enjoyable art style and I remember having a lot of fun with it on my phone. I wonder if it ever came to anything else. I should look into that.
Murder miners was great. I remember playing it on the 360, the developer made a bunch of free Xbox Live account, and would add people who bought the game to their friendslist to give out updates and stuff, I ended up talking to him for a bit
I remember playing Cube World for a bit way back when. I remember it being fun for awhile. I had Dragon Quest Builders 1 on my PS Vita and I occasionaly play the sequel on my Steam Deck.
I think my favorite clone so far is Colony Survival. Build your base up before the zombies come. Simple but fun. I tried to get into Dragon Builders 2 but the story was so geared towards small kids I couldn't stay interested.
i absolutely love dragon quest builders. it's cute and has charm and to be honest i didnt think of it like a minecraft inspired sandbox game until it was mentioned here lol
Murder Miners is secretly awesome, I was sent a copy on a whim and now I’ve p much given it to my extended friend group, it goes on sale every now and again. The devs consistently patch it, and there’s even community nights (though I haven’t joined in a good while recently) Actually still worth it today if you’re looking for a good/cheap halo fix with wall jumping and cube levels imo
Kinda surprised “Block Fortress” wasn’t on this list cause that’s a game series that clearly ripped off from Minecraft at first, though weirdly developed into its own niche of “blocky RTS”. If you ever do another list like this you should totally check out those series of games.
The fact that DQ Builders 1 yeets you out of the first world yeeted all of my interest in continuing. But it was fun while it lasted. Also, where my 3D Dot Game Heroes fans at?! Early and awesome console voxel action/RPG!
Maybe in a Terraria clone video, but I think one of the best of these is Starbound. It really is the underrated gem of this whole type of game with an incredible soundtrack
Its kinda hard to really call it even a terraria clone though. Like sure the reason i started playing starbound is because i loved terraria and wanted more, but its really not why i stayed
@@dudu28r81 I mean I prefer Starbound to Terraria myself as well but the game did come out after with plenty of similarities at first, though Starbound really gained its own identity.
@@rivver96ify i dont prefer Starbound to Terraria though, i just like both of them. I've definitely played way more Terraria since i have like 1000 hours in that
a couple friends and I really enjoyed murder miners for a while. the infection mode was great fun especially when you factored in the building and destruction mechanics!
The fact you didn’t mention Pixel Gun 3D is tragic. It is a brilliant mobile game that leans into the shooty wooty stuff with a story and ‘cod zombies’ like missions. It is sad you missed it, it’s very good
I almost forgot about CastleMinerZ lmaoooo. I remember it always had populated servers on the Xbox 360 and was fun for no good reason. Charlie Murder was fun too but a Battle Blocks ripoff lmao
I love Minecraft and im glad its available on switch (its been for a long while, i know) i played it again recently and was so confused what i was thinking in building a few things. I have an emerald castle because I'm not into survival mode.
Well, that was kind of a disservice to Trove. The game formed its own identity over the years outside of being just another Minecraft clone and out of every game here it probably has the healthiest community, I don't understand why that would be seen as a shame.
Not watched the video yet, but I hope Total Miner gets mentioned. I loved playing that on the 360 before Minecraft was on there. I had a server were a few people joined and it was great. I remember checking it out a while back when I had my 360 and there was Werewolves and shit
The one that really stuck out to me back in the day was Skysage Infinite Isles. It was an interesting lil mmo-lite with pretty good graphics and gameplay, it fizzled out around 2017 I think
I really enjoyed the DQ Builders games. Another (sort of) MC clone that I play every once in a while is Craftopia. My wife and I originally started playing on PC Game Pass, but we liked it so much that we bought it on Steam since it was removed from Game Pass.
I played cube life island survival back when it first came out on wii u It was like the minecraft rip off before the mass amounts of minecraft rip offs and did have a fun take on the block game adding many more unique items and bosses
I have s couple of Mcraft-likes that are entertaining in their own way Cube Creator was my first on Switch. Had one in 3DS and kinda thought it would be just a port... XD
