Ship Creek is one of the world's best urban king salmon fisheries. From late May through July huge Chinook migrate into Anchorage, Alaska, city limits where anglers clog the banks hoping to catch dime-bright salmon. Armed with Fire Cure roe and with Dustin Slinker of The Bait Shack on our hip we mastered Ship Creek while filming this episode of Pautzke Outdoors.

It’s a fantastic fishery, especially because it’s a family fishery. Watching kids haul in fish bigger than them is a joy and the whole shoreline cheers them on. The best I’ve ever seen was a kid no more than 6 or 7 haul in a 30lb king with a… Snoopy rod & reel. The whole river went crazy!! As far as gear, I use a #6 Arctic Fox spinner retrieved slowly so it bounces the bottom. I get my limit every year (5 fish) and I never have to mess with eggs. Which is nice because the die used when curing eggs will never come out of your clothes. Plus soaking eggs is just plain boring.

fished here 2 years ago to the day...people think combat fishing and expect the worst there are more people down there willing to help you or give you pointers than you can imagine...i wish people were like that in PA....going back to Alaska for my third time in August . ..an already planning the 4th

That rock Dustin was standing on saw an old man 2 weeks ago bust his butt slipped and went into the water on a cast. Be careful slippery when wet.

Screw the bait shack folks. They've been rude multiple times to me. "We're shooting a video, come back later". "Im going on break, ask me later". They cant eveb be bothered to answer a simple question befoee going on break or between video takes. Rude as hell. Dont give then any bussiness. Just go to walmart up the steeet and buy a cheap pole and reel for what they charge for a days rental. Rip-off
