Just a quick note guys that I found this lesson so helpful and I hope you enjoy and appreciate it too. The way both David and Pete last year can help people’s game in a short period of time is immense. I’ve used a similar title here as I feel David deserves such an accolade as does Pete Cowan… if you feel the need to comment anything negative. Just leave now and get on with your day. I hope anyone who watches this finds it as helpful as I did! Enjoy!

I recently saw David L showing this lesson to one of the GOOD GOOD boys at the launch event at Top Golf for Paradym. Amazing swing aid. Funny last fall I was at the golf range with my fiancé, She videotaped me swinging driver and I flared my hands so drastically to the inside and this is exactly what I need that first 12 to 18 inches on the backswing is golden to keep your hands in the proper position!! I need go get one of these when they get released! Thanks James !

Good video with good insight from David Leadbetter. He's taught that same move from back in the time of the Golf Swing book he talked about, and it still proves valid today. I think in some ways it serves the same purpose and promotes the same position as Pete Cowen's equal and opposite/opposing forces/squeeze the towel did. Both seem to promote retaining a structure in the wrist and arms in the early backswing. Like you and a lot of people I have that same tendency to have the clubhead swing in and below/behind the hands early in the swing with the clubface opening, and the elbows having the distance between them increase, so it's a good drill for you, me, and many others. It's tough to get it to carry over from practice swings to ball striking swings, but it's worth sticking with...

I went to see David in the early 80’s when he was charging the outrageous rate of $60 an hour at Greenleafe in Haines City, FL. (Lee Janzen was going as well when we were in high school) I was helping out a friend with his golf swing and putting a few months ago. On the drive home I thought about some of the drills and reminders and it dawned on me, “I’ve been working on this since high school!” Thanks David. Thanks Tommy Bean.

this is definitely something I am working on daily right now! My takeaway was straight back with my club face staying closed, then when I was coming back through, I would close it a bit more causing pull hooks. My swing thought now is pretty similar to what David was showing. More straight back (not as much across my body) and making sure to get my club face open in the first few feet.

James, my local club pro started my lesson exactly the same way. We worked on ball position, alignment, and 'keeping the triangle' on the takeaway. Move with the core, not with the hands. I could see immediately, that I was taking the club away on a path that looked like a barrel ... hence the problem. My club pro said, 'you get away with that movement in your mid- to short irons, but your inconsistency is magnified in the longer irons and woods.' AHA!!! Amazing lesson that you had. You will see immediate improvement in all of your clubs from that tidbit. All the best!!!

Thanks James, this has been my exact problem for years. I work on it and start hitting good shots. Then I forget about it because I think I have ingrained that move, start hitting bad shots a few months later, see myself on video, and become enraged by seeing that clubhead rolling to the inside.🤬 I like the idea of hitting shots from the good position and the thought that “the dog wags the tail”. Not sure if I have been using my core to start the move.

I’ve been improving my take away in a similar way. When I put it together it works, but when I hit a bad one I realise I’ve not concentrated enough in doing things right. It’s easy to get complacent over the ball, and the difficult bit is to work hard on every shot. I guess the good players do that really well.

One big key in this as he mentioned “ some coaches want you steeper some want you flatter some want a bowed wrist some want a cupped wrist etc..” This is your typical club pro RU-vid golf coach. As you notice he basically said he doesn’t give a damn about all that. All he cares about is that 3 foot circle at impact. 99.9 percent of the pga tour coaches don’t care about all these things. They care about 2 foot before and after impact. I’ve worked with some of the best coaches on the pga tour and they all have the same methods. They give zero weight to all the methods you hear from RU-vid and club pros. There’s def levels to the coaching game.

I recently purchased one of these off of His web page and it arrived yesterday. The number one flaw in my swing has always been an inside take away. I haven’t hit balls with it but I can tell you by putting that alignment rod down by my feet and working with it outside for 10 minutes. I can already feel a huge adjustment with my take away. I always would get it going away good for the first 20 swings and then eventually the wrist roll to the inside would start involuntarily. I can tell immediately with or without hitting balls this is going to help tremendously.

Interesting. I frequently use what I call the interrupted take away to help with alignment. Seemingly, as long as I keep my left upper arm connected to my chest in the down swing I do alright. But if my arms/hands get even a little quick the dreaded over the top comes out. It looks like you had a little fade working there at the end. Wondering if that's what you were experiencing?

Unfortunately age, injuries, surgery, PTSD etc. have conspired and now my golf swing (never all that good to start with) has even further degenerated and it now most closely resembles an octopus falling out of a tree. So, did you bag the lesson that you got from Pete Cowen??? My miss for decades has been a steep downswing and a shot dead right. Which lesson type would be best for correcting that. H Stenson, Brendon Todd and others have had the same issue. I think J Speith does the same thing. Too steep coming down. Just this last weekend, that Min Wu Lee got steep on that little pitch on # 4 and stuck it in the ground and made triple. Very common problem. I'm just trying to figure out how to consistently stop that shot. Any help would be wonderful.
