WELCOME TO KARBALA, IRAQ. This is the site of the world's largest pilgrimage, where every October, over 15 MILLION Shia Muslims walk from neighboring countries to show respect to Imam Hussain's shrine (grandson of prophet Muhammad). Even though I am not visiting in October, I can feel the spirit in the air unlike any place I've ever been.
The mosques and mausoleums are STUNNING, and somehow, I got special VIP access into the back room to meet with the boss... and he gave me permission to film inside. This kind of permission is unheard of!
But my favorite thing about Karbala is the hospitality. You've probably noticed a theme by now - that the Middle East has the most hospitable people in the world and a perfect example of this is Karbala!
The main mosque provides hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of FREE meals to anyone who stops by. I've never seen anything like it in my life... And not only that, but the local people will open their doors to all visitors.
We randomly got invited into a family's home where they cooked us a 10 course meal.
All of that and more in this amazing episode, which I hope will change your perspective about Iraq.

I'm sure Drew has good intentions but just to clarify something. Karbala is not the Mecca for Shia Muslims, Mecca is the mecca for Shia Muslims. After Mecca and Medina the shirines in Najaf and Karbala are the holiest sites in Shia Islam. Point being after Mecca and Medina. Keep up the good work Drew! Loving the Iraq content!

Between Europe and the US ,I've met Muslims from different middle east countries, and you are absolutely correct, they are the kindest and most hospitable people. The poorest one will literally give you their last piece of bread. All Muslims,Shiite or Sunni are the most generous and kindest people above all other's.

Both are the holiest places on earth. Medina is the place where Hazarat MOHAMMAD PBUH rest and Karbala, is the place where PBUH's grandson HUSSAIN IBN ALI rest. There are no differences, as both hold the same significance.

Absolutely incredible to watch. My country is so misunderstood and underrated. It was literally the centre of the world from the age of the Sumerians to centre of the Islamic world. As someone who's Shia I would like to point out a few points, Shia Islam isn't different from Islam. Karbala is not "like Mecca" to us. Mecca is Mecca. Karbala is a very important site and I'm glad you had the opportunity to go there. If I'm being honest, I wouldn't mind even if you had met me there and told me you were Jewish but I get that not everyone will share the same view and you just want to stay safe. As far as the executive room goes, even me, who has been to Karbala had never known something like that existed. Loved this video! You're lucky because Moharram is about to start in 20 days. You got to be there right before. You are living the life man! Wish you could be there when Moharram starts. You should definitely come back.

There is saying in the west “MEECA” is the place where millions of people gathered,if they see lots of people at one place thy usually refer this phrase when he saw lots of people at imam Hussain shrine he use,s the phrase(Mecca of Iraq)that’s all

In the US, when a place is visited by large amount of people they use "Mecca" i.e New York city is the mecca for tourists around the world. It doesn't refer to the holy Mecca, it is just a figure of speech.

Drew when it comes to Being a guest at someones home in Iraq the hospitality is always top notch, we always cook allot of food because we are always expecting guests to join us. @@animo555 I’m already doing this and am very active politically, unfortunately in the US our politicians aren’t all that democratic, they serve the wealthy which includes military industrial complex, these are sociopaths who put profits before human lives; especially if not american, but they don’t care for their fellow man either. 40,000-60,000 Americans die a year due to our healthcare system so a few can get richer for example. There is a lot of apathy, lack of concern, etc though, but just to help put into perspective

What is it that makes you weep?” Isa (A.S.) said: “Do you know what land this is?” The disciples replied: “No.” He then said: “This is the land on, which the son of the Prophet Ahmad (S.A.W.) shall be killed. Im a Saudi arabian shitte Muslim specifically from Al-Qatif but lived in Texas for six years three in Austin and the other three in San antonio , ive went to more tgen half of the states and had an amazing experience but not like the time were i went to Ziyart Al-Arbaeen it was a superb trip actually from the best times i had in my entire life , the amazing part about ziyart Al-Arbaeen is when u see all kinds of people from many countries heading towards the same destination for no personal benefit except showing ur love for this person (Imam Hussain peace be upon him) , that really makes you think why is he that big of a spiritual figure in peoples thoughts , and that comes mainly from his spiritual and emotional story of sacrificing his self , family and fifty other believers of him to stand against injustice , the story is heart touching I recommend u read about it and you wil not regret that
