thank you for this. it's great to hear Hasan talking into a microphone with a sane noise gate and with an interviewer that can properly structure a conversation and no twitch chat to derail things.
I’m 74 and I’ve watched Hasan on YT! Mostly because of Sam Seder. But I also know I’m unusual, sadly. It’s lonely being an aged lefty. Such good political analysis. Thank you.
There are more of us out here than you think. But, so many have been brainwashed by the drip drip effect of mainstream media fed through TV. I do not have a TV. And, I look at evidence, rather than believe narratives with bias toward those most powerful and their interests.
Hasan is so much more enjoyable and coherent when he is having an actual conversation with a human being and not sitting alone in his room screaming at chat that only wants to get reactions out of him Edit: lmao maybe there are sedatives in his Boba? He is so calm and collected. I like Hasan for his takes and respect his opinion normally, but I love him here especially
The essays he makes are incredible. I think that the structure of twitch being his job as well as his activism is unhealthy-as he says “terrible.” 😂 He also often says he’s mentally unwell for it. As a speaker and a person, he’s awesome. Chat is terrible!
You are so right about that. He appeared on the Majority Report with Sam Seder a while back and he was so calm and collected and it was clear that Sam loved having him on. He seems calmer when he is actually talking to someone vs ranting on his own.
Yeah, I enjoy him more on the podcast the leftovers. Definitely seems more like a chill dude when he is interacting with normal people rather than terminally online chatters.
The liberty of a democracy is not safe if people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power. Franklin D Roosevelt
Corporations are often called business empires, never business democracies. Imperialism has evolved throughout human history, from Akkad, to Assyria, Egypt, Rome, Mongolia, France, Britain, Japan, too many to name, to the major corporations of our neoliberal world. None of them have happy endings.

Lolol it’s good back and forth at least. Cause at least most of the things you could make fun of the UK for, you can say almost the same for the US. We are a spawn of you guys lol
@@ImpossibleMusic69 He's saying that the UK has the best healthcare system in the world, and as we failed to copy it, it's one area that you can't equivalently make fun of between the UK and the US.
Great idea to connect people from different countries. I think people from all over the world are in need and want of a message like this. You guys make it ok to feel like things should be different.
I watch different channels that get audiences from different countries. Good people are the same all over the world and it's nice to see but so unfortunately are the nasty ones. They know no demographic ✌
No one should have anything to do with the dumpster fire we call the American "left". None of them are serious socialists or have any interest in changing society below the surface level of politics. American "leftists" should be avoided at all costs.
It’s the indoctrination of individual freedom especially post red scare 1.0 era and the vilification of collective action . Because it’s freedom to pay $400 a month , a $1500 deductible, pay 40% co pays , and still be refused medical care by a 3rd party for profit insurance industry while they as an industry work together building lobbies to use collective power against the populations interests . As one systemic example.

I'm a lefty and also a big gamer. It's true - misogyny, racism, transphobia, MAGA etc, are by far the prominent under current amongst gamers. Whilst many are apolitical, it is the right that is clearly more visible. We need more gamers like Hasan.
They appeal to and lure in low-information, apolitical types, and then manipulate them into reactionary politics. The biggest issue with gamers is that they are far too disengaged from this stuff, so, when their hobby is critiqued, they become prime candidates for some reactionary indoctrination because they have no one reasonably engaging their concerns while also providing them with critical things to think about within their sub-culture. There’s a reason why many of them think games like Final Fantasy VII and Deus Ex are right wing or by right wing creators when such thinking could not be any further from the truth.
@@stingerredshock3418 Wasn't talking about streamers, so could not be bothered to go look for right wing nut jobs on Twitch. I'm referring to game forums, in game chats, steam discussions etc.
If Americans actually understood what constitutes left wing it would help. Maybe then they would stop calling right of centre neoliberal fiscal agendas as the "left"
@@stingerredshock3418 twitch will ban anyone remotely right wing or even left wingers like Destiny who say obvious stuff like trans women will have significant biological advantages over biological women in athletics, which he was permanently banned for. Tbh I think the whole anti-sjw stuff is whiney and cringe but a lot of gamers seem overwhelmingly anti-BLM and anti-LGBT and anti-immigration which is awesome to see
As a normie guy, hasan shaved all the casual homophobic, sexist, transphobic edges off my personality that i had a decade ago. I was falling down the right wing pipeline, and I got out. I am way happier now. He is changing lives
@Father Maxon I don't think he's called himself a complete pacifist regardless of circumstance because that would be crazy but I've never heard him call for violence either. Even personally he's said he has fought but hated it and is a lover not a fighter. Hasan is as hippie as you're gonna get in 2022 imo.
Fantastic interview! Really excellent insight into his character and a great summary of leftist political priorities in US and UK. Loved the closing point about leftists turning to petty cultural issues as an expression of political powerlessness.
When mute needs to shout... They'll flail their arm or bash immediate objects. Understanding the "powerlessness" part is the quintessential aspect of U.S Politics with the Left and Labour.
We had a lesser of two conservative evils political media landscape replace 3 branches of government decades ago. Thank click bait, our children being used as hostages by the state, and algorithm for the rest of the left being muted. It's not easy when we have the governor of Florida kidnapping and grooming kids from the left in conservative religious grooming state homes and foster care. The archdiocese of Seattle has been doing it for decades while they pretend it's the left and social programs (other then police, courts, churches, and the military) grooming, narcotics trafficking, and wrecking the place when most of the subsidized housing, MH service providers, and hospitals are owned and operated by church organizations. American voters choose between 2 sides of the Panhandling embezzling thieves based on name recognition, and a dopamine fix.
Dude what?! this is like the first time in 2 years that ive been recommended something that is actually new to me and it is not some right wing brain addled nonsense.
With a name like "Hasan", he thinks he's classed as 'white' in the US Cenk's nephew talks as much bollox as his sellout relative, I've found He might be the biggest streamer because of "Twitch" but he's not that famous Chris Hedges, Jimmy Dore and Novara Media are the "deep state" 😜 of progressive politics Piker is more of an AOC performative bad faith actor
Never subscribe to a lifestyle in which one is too posh to nosh, nor mosh.. i.e. don't let the trivialities of one's irrelevant cultural differences dissuade any momentum to delve further, meeting one another at a point of genuinely substinative commonality.
I watch Hasan daily whenever I get a chance; I am a 45 year old American woman and my three daughters 17, 19, and 21, always find ourselves saying do you see Hasan today at all? From his unmatched educational, unapologetic information, to the guy being freaking hilarious, we all love Hasan!
I hope Hasan knows he's in such a unique spot. He's like a teacher. We know the US schools didn't teach us well at all. I'm glad young people have someone other than Sneako and Charlie Kirk types to model. Surprised to hear he couldn't speak off the cuff in the beginning. I can't speak, only write. I'd be terrible at debate. I work slowly. TYT led me to Hasan (and a few others) and for that, I'm very grateful
great interview i am in the older demigraphic and follow hassan to some degree, as do i follow you guys, and he is a great person to team up with along with the majority report rather than TYT, he has done a great deal for the left perspective on the gen Z's, you should be a guest on his show, talk about the class consciousness issues we all share and how the different ways we are divided under the false left of neo-liberalism after thatcher/reagan. I think one of the things that was talked about is the the problem of utilitarian nature of materialism which he was talking about and maybe thought there was some confusion on, the ability to spend money on what you want within that grey area i think that you both agree on, is the utilitarian nature of ownership over what he clearly defined as capital exploitation we on the left despise rightfully.
@aellyks Yes, exactly! Tho I like to think if Hasan had been around when I was younger I would still have recognized his talent, intellect and wit. But impossible to say...
@@jennifermackinnon6982ignore that fellow, there are a lot of people in the comments being disparaging for no reason... good to see people from all age groups in the community!
My first exposure to Hassan was from his dog videos and collaboration with the Alveus Sanctuary. That shows the power of creating a flexible and wide ranging brand.
Love this interview you treated Hasan so well and challenged him in interesting ways. I just want to add to the expenditure point that personally, Hasan driving a Porsche and the head of ALU wearing Gucci is a good look for the left regardless. Flex the individual success a community of leftists can still achieve, the red scare is about individual exceptionalisn so let's show them we have that too
There is absolutely nothing wrong with leftists making a lot of money. However don't you think it is hypocritical for a leftist (who should be well aware of the inherent exploitation of capitalism) engaging in the most hyper-capitalist aspects of society (super cars, designer fashion etc)? You may have the right views, but if your behaviour is indistinguishable from an Oil Prince, then what's it all really worth?
@@outhouse124 I think if Bernie Sanders drove a Porsche and people compared his behavior to an oil Baron because of that, that individual would be missing the point of socialism. EVERYONE deserves wealth, not no one
@@titansquirrel4408 One of Bernie's primary appealing factors was precisely that he wouldn't engage in hyper-capitalist tendencies like driving a Porsche. Critics/opponents have always attempted to critique Bernie's lifestyle for hypocrisy and its always fallen flat because he is incredibly consistent in how he acts vs. what he believes in terms of policy. Really it's just the question of the optics surrounding how you advocate for a cause, and whether your advocacy draws more people in than it detracts.
@@RandomPerson-dl8qs I get your point but I don't think the existence of sports cars is hyper-capitalist, only the fact that a tremendous number of people can't afford them is hyper-capitalist. Just my opinion
For the reading part at the beginning I found the "Left Reckoning" reading series very useful in covering people like Marx and Lenin. They walk through the books with you and break down certain segments into more digestible information versus reading the books on your own
its interesting how the interviewer correctly told HASAN, "but youre Turkish", because in the UK they are admittedly aware that your ethnicity is more relevant than your race. Hasan may be "white" in American standard, but people fail to realize the fundamental differences between white American and European. Europeans often grow up living very culturally different lives.
Excellent interview, love these deeper downstream dives! Bit of friendly technical advice - check the light/in-camera exposure levels on the talent. Skin tones are frequently overexposed in your videos, and bringing them down to standard levels (varies based on the skin tone of the person) will help elevate the look of your content. For example, in the shot of Aaron, his skin is around 90 IRE, when it should be around 60-70 IRE. It's something that the vast majority of your audience wouldn't notice and don't care about, but just wanted to mention and hopefully it helps! Also, bonus tip - look at motivated lighting. I'm London-based and would be happy to help (for free of course) with setup/lighting etc if you need!
Excellent. Class analysis first! As a feminist, we all need to see the class basis of oppression first. Then we can address all forms of oppression. You go dude!!
Love Hasan’s perspective on politics. Been following him on Twitch since 2020 and It’s always been impressive how he can articulate how a lot of us are feeling about the country. He’s a great voice for the Left and overall a standup guy.
@ Aqunii What else needs saying? The OP stated how impressed he is with Hasan's articulation of everyone's feelings, how great his voice is for the Left and how he is such a stand up guy and for that there are only two possible choices that can be used: 1. Yikes 2. YIKES! Hasan is about as articulate as Nancy Pelosi after 10 glasses of wine. His voice is a detriment to the Left but great for the right. Stand up guys do not need to lie and misrepresent facts in order to justify their arguments, nor does a stand up guy ban people from their chat for daring to go against the script.
@@hadayimosi if his voice is great for the right and bad for the left, then why do so many people come to his stream and say that they used to be on the right, but because of him they changed?
25:20 The $15 minimum wage bit makes me want to pull my hair out. With the video of Sinema gleefully, enthusiastically voting no with a vigorous thumbs down and a curtsy, Biden had all he needed to make her, and anyone who voted with her, the most hated people in America. Even with her reelection contest only coming in 2025 or 26, she'd be universally hated and could have been pressured to toe the party line. In dealing with the Senate holdouts Manchin and Sinema, all we see from Biden is carrot, with zero stick.

Great interview. I could watch six hours of this. Thanks for the effort. My impression is that you may not comprehend exactly just how bad it actually is in the US. As an American my impression is that in GB it is just as bad, but you have NHS, though it's been cut a lot, you have mass transit, though those who run it think it should make money because the conservatives have contracted it out to the private sector, and that you have stronger unions, but your media is more laissez faire and supply side loving than even here and they say anything and everything to paint them as money grubbing. But I'd still rather live there.
1. NHS hasn't been cut, spending has increased year on year - You could argue it's not enough but regardless of what you give it, someone, somewhere will ask for more. 2. It has been contracted to the private sector, but that's OK so long as it remains free at the point of use. McMillan Cancer support is a private charity for example... they're a good thing sensible people would agree. 3. The only strong union we have is the rail unions, particularly RMT. it's leader, Mick Lynch has become a leftist hero in recent months. Although, he encouraged RMT to vote for Brexit, and he continues to support it.
@@hustler3of4culture3 Just to let you know, as a % of GDP, NHS funding *has* been cut over the last decade. Yes, more physical money is going in but costs have gone up across the board and in real terms, funding has decreased. Also our population is aging rapidly and demands from this cohort have increased. I also object that it's 'OK' that parts have gone to private sector. As you know from US, that means money is being taken out and often things like wages and services get worse as a result of less money being spent within the NHS.
@@vickiclee9332 public goods are more important than private profit. I agree. The private sector should have no hands in the till when it comes to public transport, healthcare, education, or housing as far as I'm concerned. Efficiency is not the reason we have the government do something.
@@vickiclee9332 . When the government has been co-opted by corporate donors, asset-stripping of profitable parts of the NHS and other government sectors becomes commonplace. Instead of being services for the common good, in which areas which run at a loss are subsidized by those that run at a profit, revenue-producing becomes the sole objective. Those areas with higher concentrations of lower-income or vulnerable people, or those areas, which through neglect or malice have fallen into disrepair, are left to fail and be handed to private business, to exploit and plunder.
I completely agree with Hasan Piker on just about everything he said.
