i had left my guitars collecting dust as i had no time in the day to practice with am amp without disturbing my little kid and wife at night.i really think this is one excellent product for me to go back practicing again during the night .great one BOSS
its great but most modern amps have headphone out already,, alternatively a cheap Focusrite 2i2 interface will literally change your life for practicing quietly.
@@averagebedroomproducer5008 The biggest issue I have these days is that I'm in quite a small apartment so in order to play I have to literally move furniture to get to my amp and dig out all the cables and pedals, even to play through headphones, then putting it all away again, I feel like i have to spend forty minutes as a roadie for my own forty minute practice. I'm definitely going to get one of these.
This! Whilst they've sold like hot cakes I always thought it was dumb that with the full size katana amps you had to physically plug into the amp to use the the editing software. And yet with the other amps including this Go unit you can connect wirelessly over Bluetooth.
i love little headphone amps like this just because how practical they are.. when you just want to practice on the couch or something no way near your rig.
got mine 2 days ago, loving it so far. headphones are great, I also use the aux in on my katana mini on batteries. best headphone amp I've tried so far
I can't believe how inexpensive this thing is! Bought one the other day and it's brilliant. Works great into a portable amp too. I put mine through my little Blackstar 3 as an experiment and I was really impressed. I can see tis being used more than my normal amps now. Playing through headphones will keep the missus happy anyway.
Better still, run one ear budd into one side of the headphones independant from this system. That will save you battery. A Y cable might work too. Probably need a mono cable, not stereo.
Great review. Never bought from PMT before, but they seem to be the only online music store to have these in stock. Can't wait for it be delivered. Well done Degan and team and PMT!
Not bad, If I didnt have a nux pro plug I would buy this for the physical screen and on screen tuner. But the nux pro already has IRs, and everything else, including app tunning. But this seems great and at a really cheap price. Was going to laugh about how the nux does the same for half the price, but they cost pretty much the same. Boss doing a great job as always
Thanks, Dagan , for your great review. Yes I will be getting one of these when they come back in Stock at PMT Portsmouth. Just wish I could play as good as you.
I wish that I was the product manager behind that little monster! For the Stage Feel - I could even hear the difference between the direct to the positioned amps with my Bose Companions.
I have the Fender equivalent (Mustang Micro) and it sits untouched because the only way to cycle through the various amps and effects is to compare the colors with the little pamphlet that came with it. It's excruciating... who can tell the difference between cyan and aquamarine on a tiny light. This seems much, much better.
I agree it's a pain to cycle through the amps on the Fender, and there's very limited ability to tweak the effects. This seems superior to me too. Plus it has a tuner and a little screen!
This technology is so good and moving so fast how long before these type of units are all home players (the majority) really need. I look at all my stuff and don’t and won’t need most of it soon (probably still buy it though). Great video!
Can you maybe elaborate a bit more as to why the katana air are limited? I’ve been wanting a pair of them since they came out, but I was hoping they would come out with an MK2 version, but it seems they made the katana go instead.
@@isyscarola5928 @kruse8888 SAID.... 2 days ago Get the Waza Air headphones instead. No cords and the spatial effect is awesome. A little expensive but worth it
I am going to get one. Then get a 1/4" male to female lead (cord) and velcro the actual unit to a mic stand. So I can see it, make changes/presets quickly without looking down and hunting in the dark. So... Boss.... make a mic stand version with a good screen!!
Holy shit this thing sounds great! Boss just roundhouse kicked Fender's little thingy in the mouth, and beat a bunch of other brands that could have done this well to the punch. Say less! Mine's been ordered!
Gosh i would freaking LOVE one of these as it'd be perfect for my situation but because of that same situation i can't afford it 😅 currently homeless living in temporary supported accommodation so can't disturb my neighbours in the next rooms by playing through an amp. I got by with a vox amplug for a while but it died on me back in december and i've been playing unplugged ever since 😭 once my circumstances are better i'll still hafta get one though so i can play around others without disturbing them ^.^
First off awesome video and love your playing.Had it for about ten days and i honestly like the fender mustang micro better.the boss is fine and sounds great but cant really do anything without the app.i mostly play hard rock ,metal and blues(just need three presets )and the fender mustang is perfect for just plug in and play guys(fender shouldve put in a tuner like boss did)that being said if you need thirty presets and like spending hours tweaking and retweaking pedals amps and eq's then the boss katana go is for you.but for meat and potatoes players like myself(been playing since '79) go with the Vox amplug of your choice or for double the Vox price get the fender mustang micro...peace \m/
Going to stick to the Fender Micro for one solid reason, stereo effects! If this Boss unit would have included stereo effects it would be the clear winner, but the stereo effects in the Micro are awesome. Stereo effects make sense for a headphone amp!
I would like to see this compared to the NUX Mighty Plug Pro. At the risk of going off at a tangent I did think about just going for a katana 50 proper amp. However, it's just silly that for editing via the app you have to physically connect it to the amp rather than do it over Bluetooth. That looks sillier when you now see this product to that precise operation over Bluetooth. For home practice cutting down cables is great
I have the Nu-X, but this seems better. For one thing, it has a tuner. Also has a master volume knob, which the Nu-X lacks, you have to set the volume for each pre-set individually using the app. I'm eager to get the Katana.
Okay, so I just want to make sure. If I will pair my smartphone with Katana GO device and will play any sound source in the background (RU-vid, Spotify etc.) as a back track I will hear both the sound from the Guitar/Katana GO and the back track from other source?
No review on RU-vid explains how you connect this device to your iPad to play along with backing tracks via headphones on RU-vid as you can with the Roland Cube. Any ideas anyone?
Awesome dagan. Can i use my ditto looper with these? So guitar into looper and katana on the output? Assume they work same as waza air receiver? Thanks
But I think then you wouldn't be able to use the Katana sounds to record overdubs while keeping the original track pure, the Katana would affect the original track as well (like putting the Ditto looper in front of your pedalboard).
So full disclosure: you need to have a tele or some other guitars with more bright twangy tones.....this doesnt play well with an SG and the tones arre bassy and dark. It requires a lot of tweaking/refining to get the sweet spot.....i will need time to to get a decent distortion sound, but the ambient clean tone was instant hit!
@@JTB-- No cords, just plug and play. And the headphones are built to handle guitarsound. I have both, I might have used the Go for 1 hour max. The WAH is just so much easier to use. And perfect when shopping for new guitar.
I play it so much that things seems off when I use my actual amp like There is a delay or something. Guess I got used to the guitar coming out of the headphones it is weird when the sound is in front of me. Which isn’t good lol but it is what it is
Can "picth shifter" effect in this katana capable of dropping guitar tuning such as from E standard to C standard for playing Metal sir? Please answer🙏
I'm still waiting for a headphone amp with bluetooth out to bluetooth headphones or buds, I don't give af about bluetooth in. What is the point of bluetooth if you are wired to the guitar? Headphone amps like this have been around for years. There is nothing to see here.
The bluetooth capability allows you to not only playback audio, but mainly edit your presets in-depth via the BOSS Editor app. Keeps the unit nice and tidy, with all the deep dive parameter changes done wirelessly via the app! 👌 It's great.
@@PMTVUK The whole point of bluetooth is to make me wireless. It would be far more convenient to run a wire to a phone in my back pocket than to run it inside the back of my shirt so it isn't get tangled up in my hand and arm. And honestly, are you ever going to use it for anything other than a headphone amp anyway? The rest of it is just snake oil. Those Vox or ampeg headphone amps have been around for years, they have all the features most would use in a headphone amp. I would get another of those to use at home if I could use it with bt headphones or buds. As it is I only use it when travelling for work. I don't need the rest of the bells and whistles for that.
You'll be waiting a while. Audio over Bluetooth has too much latency to use while playing an instrument. That's why no instrument wireless systems use Bluetooth.
I have thought about that as well- PocketGT sits on the desk, or in a pocket, and is kinda awkward with the conections wanting to pull it around due to its light weight. I like that this connects to the output jack and has 1 wire (headphones). I wonder if its literally Tone Studio in a plug, and if its patches are direclty transferable to a regular Katana amp. That would be really cool.
@@ShaneSaiyan oh, thats cool. When did that change, any idea? I thought Katana Air patches were their own thing and weren't transferrable to a regular amp (Katana MKII in this case)
@@CedricSatterfieldMust have been recently. The product page on Boss' website says you can import tone settings from your amp, so it must work both ways
Love the product. Only reason I'm not going to buy it is the stupid male jack it has. Why the hell not just have a female input that you can plug in with your cable? The way it is now seems really inconvenient (especially for some guitars) and probably prone to breaking off (or at least being damaged) by accident. It should 've had a female port and a strap clip so you could put it on your strap, or if you wanted, just put it on your pedal board.
You've shown exactly why its useless: it hangs off the bottom of the guitar ready to be smashed, flips around in the wind, you cant sit and play unless you want to damage your guitars paintwork and looks awful. You can't see what you're changing either. If they'd put it on 18" of cable to attach to a strap it would have been 50 times better. Poor design!
For all those asking, NO this doesn’t work with Bluetooth headphones, and none of those do. Not the device fault, it’s Bluetooth latency fault. No Bluetooth protocol allows for low enough latency to play an instrument through it and still monitor
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.T must be 2.4Ghz or similar, like the wireless systems used on stage. Bluetooth is a low power protocol and there are many other wireless protocols.
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.T they have their custom format, which is not Bluetooth. They also support Bluetooth, but if you use that, there's the higher latency again
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.TWaza airs use traditional old style guitar wireless technology which uses radio signals, the part that connects to the guitar jack is the exact same device used in their wireless units that send the instrument signal to an amp, the headphones just have the receiver electronics built in. They also have two Bluetooth signals, Waza audio and Waza midi. The audio is Bluetooth for streaming music from your iPad, iPhone etc. to practice and play along with, the midi is Bluetooth midi to connect to the Waza air tone studio app that lets you configure presets and send them to your headphones.
So I got one plugged it up and thought “Shit this doesn’t sound as good as this video” then realized I’m not Dagan. DAMMIT. But I will say this thing is AMAZING. IF ONLY I HAD DAGANS DAMN FINGERS.
In your opinion what is better the boss pocket gt or the katana pro? I have the pocket gt on back order. Its 6 weeks out. Bleh. It the katana go has a lot of the same features as the pocket gt
