Nick Koustas I wouldn’t go so far as to say “completely different”; but are all separate. The Council of Europe is completely different, though. The Council of the EU, or officially, ‘The Council’ is one of the EU’s two legislative bodies (despite its (voting) members all being government ministers of their home states), whereas the European Council’s membership consists of the heads of state/government of each member state - an institutionalisation of the European summits which were informally held before the end of 2009, and the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty. So, two of these councils are organs of the EU, and one is another organisation that introduced the European Convention on Human Rights.

Correction: Schengen is purely about borderless travel, not about making it easier to work or live in another country. Employment/residence/etc. for citizens are covered under the EU freedoms and has nothing to do with Schengen. Map is also wrong, Ireland is firmly in the EU and not in Schengen (same for the UK, but Brexit).

Exactly. As an Irish (EU but not schengen) citizen. I have the same rights to live and work as any other EU citizen. The only difference is I have to show my passport (or some ID with citizenship but we dont have any other one) when flying from Ireland to schengen. As an island nation that really isnt a big deal for us and maintaining the Common Travel Area, our mini schengen with the UK that helps keep the border with Northern Ireland open is more important to us.

I'm really surprised you didn't mention the Commonwealth of Nations, or the French version - International Organisation of La Francophonie. The Commonwealth of Nations is probably the largest non-UN IGO there is, with 2.5 billion people, a vast amount of the world's landmass, etc. We have the Commonwealth Games regularly, which is pretty big, and regular meetings. Basically a lot of cultural connection through history etc. Other than missing that, cool video.

0:30 That's how the IMF describes itself, not what it is. A lot of third world countries strongly disagree with IMF influence in their countries. It's a world bank, with the US having by far the most voting power, and they would argue that it's an organisation designed to keep them in debt to the US and the West. 2:59 NATO wasn't created in "response" to anything, it was created to stop any conceivable German or Soviet invasion. The Warsaw Pact was a response to NATO.

The EU is not an IGO, but a supranational organisation. Also, while it is true that the Council of Europe can't really make laws that are instantly binding its MS, its European Court of Human Rights and its main document, the ECHR, are suuuuper influential and form part of the MS internal legal systems.

Hey Paul, I’m at POLI-SCI student from Boston and I really enjoyed this video since it’s relevant to the global governance course I’m taking and I’m probably gonna show my professor but a small problem is that the WWF is a non-for-profit therefore it’s not an IGO since it is a private organization that operates independent of any state or outside body, other than that I really think this would make any POLI-SCI professor proud. Really great video.

Peeps, You should do something breaking down different "types" of government(s). IE. federation, vs union vs republic, Figurehead vs Constitutional vs Absolute monarchies, that sort of thing. Like "What's an Oblast, how is it that different from a province or an exclave?" "What's the different between a micro-state and a principality?" Like explaining examples of executive, legislative and judicial relationships. Differences and similarities between countries, regions etc. That'd be tight...

5:50 careful, there are three very similar terms, that are easily mixed up: The European Council is an EU institution consisting of the heads of the states of the EU member states, whereas the Council of Europe is as you describe. Not mentioned: the Council(s) of the European union, another EU institution, consisting of the secretaries of state for a specific topic (e.g. Education, foreign affairs, Agriculture etc.).

European Council is an institution within the EU; it represents the heads of states/government of the member states and decides the general political agenda for the EU. Whereas the Council of Europe is separate, and it’s main body is the European Court of Human Rights, which rules on matters related to the European Convention on Human Rights. + EFTA is QUITE different from the EU, even on a functional level. But, there is a relation. *Add those captions*

You missed the opportunity to speak about the "Organisation de la Francophonie" (which can literally be translated to "International Organisation of Frenchspeaking"). It has 54 full members, 7 associate members and 27 observers. The headquarters are in Paris, surprisingly. Strangely enough, the Secretary-General was never French. The first one was Boutros Boutros-Ghali, former UN secretary-general and minister of foreign affairs in Egypt. And no summit was hold in France since 1991.

You missed APEC - the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (21 Pacific Rim countries including US, Russia, China, Japan, Australia etc etc) promotes trade with annual leaders forums in different host countries.
