The more extensive your reach . . . the more extensive the side effects of your reach. B-) wiki: "The EMPIRE On Which The SUN NEVER SETS was used to describe certain global empires that were so extensive it seemed it was always daytime in part of its territory. ...originally ...Empire of Charles V, who, as Duke of Burgundy, King of Spain, Archduke of Austria, and Holy Roman Emperor, attempted to build a universal monarchy. The term was then used for the Spanish Empire of Philip II of Spain and successors when the empire reached a global territorial size, particularly in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. "It was used for the British Empire, mainly in the 19th and early 20th centuries, a period in which the British Empire reached a global territorial size. In the 20th century, the phrase has sometimes been adapted to refer to the global reach of American power. "

I went to those enclaves in Oman/UAE in Dec 2019. There is no border controls at all. You have to pay attention to the different ruler pictures to even know you have crossed the border. Also, you can't really drive from Oman to UAE to Oman to UAE to Oman to UAE to Oman because the roads don't work like that. To get into enclaves you get off the main coastal road and drive into the area, then backtrack out.

Most people hate “the other.” Anyone with a different language, ethnicity, or way of life is viewed as a threat. This goes back to humanity’s roots as social primates in small kinship groups, similar to chimpanzees. There are a few humans who are not inherently bigoted, but most are significantly different than the “”norm”” psychologically (travelers usually lack this impulse, as we want to experience other cultures). I’m not sure what the solution would be, if there is one. Perhaps having rational AI make all major political decisions, to get around human in-group instinct?

Campione d'Italia is an exclave of Italy surrounded by Switzerland. Although less than a kilometre from the rest of Italy, mountain terrain makes it a journey by road of fourteen kilometres to reach the nearest other Italian town. Because the telephone service in Campione d'Italia is operated by Swisscom, people in the rest of Italy making a call to Campione d'Italia must use the Swiss International dialling code, whilst people in Campione d'Italia making a call to the rest of Italy must use the Italian international dialling code.

In Cyprus you can easily pass through the british area as there there are no border control, there are highways and you can go anywhere in that british area, except the actual military bases in it, which are not that big compared to the size of the total area :) also there is a funny point of british area that is only a 2-lane road wide and it's the only thing seperating north and south parts, the only place where there isn't a UN buffer zone :)

Adam Madi Definitely no. It is just similar to Russians in Crimea or Turkish Cypriots: These areas are not homogen I mean yes there are lots of Turkmens especially at some cities but there are also arabs and kurds. So claim is all matter of diplomacy. I mean Turkey currently holds chunk of lands but their plan is just to throw assad away. not seperating country right now. I just think that usa and russia wouldnt want another country. So it is all about diplomacy: "look we have turkmens there so we dont want assad, either throw assad away or we wont go away" like poker game

JonJunoify Because Turkey wants to claim Syrian lands. Turkey is one of the biggest bullies. They are responsible for numerous disasters and issues across Europe and Asia.
@sharkfinbite
@sharkfinbite 5 лет назад
@JonJunoify I came across this story before. I forgot most of the details. If I remember correctly it has to do with the person's wishes of where to be burred, or the decision of the people deciding where to bury him. The man wanted to be kept in that spot. However the conflicted started and the Turkish government asked questions of concern to the other nation's gov. of safety to the site. They didn't give much answers. They asked permission to take the guy for safe keeping until things calmed down but they still did not get replies back. The Syrian government leaders are... difficult and they can easily get irritable. So my guess Turkey did a tactic of grabbing the person after telling them they will if they did not get a reply without their permission or the other government shown signs of not being able to keep the site safe from possible danger coming closer to the tomb that could wreck it and move him to a safer area. They did not move him into Turkey because they wanted to avoid it turning into a big international incident where they get accused of stealing a important figure from another country side. I know what you are thinking right now. How is it stealing if he is technically on their land already? The person if I recall was a joint shared national figure. He was suppose to be managed with cooperation with another country. He is kind of similar in situation with Lafayette. Lafayette loves France and wishes to be buried there. However he also stated he would love also to let the soil he is in to be from America. The U.S. would later replace the soil he sleeps in with its soil thanks to French permission. If either one tried to grab and mess with his grave it would be seen as an insult and lead to an international incident. It's all thanks to the circumstances of his historical significance towards each country and how he and the two nations wish to bury him. This is probably the similar situation Turkey has to deal with except the location's leaders are a lot more fickle and the surrounding location is extremely dangerous. The tomb was actually very close to the danger zones or flat out in the danger zone of a lot of fighting and crazy people during this time. They did not felt like the government at the time was doing enough to keep the area of a few Turkish guards and the site safe and decided to move it away from the danger zone. The location they moved it is literally a temporary one. They will move it back once everything dies down. It's not so much a land grab like some of the replies are claiming. It's just trying to protect what little they can of the remains and the site as possible. They know it is not how it should be handled but again... the other side was having problems keeping the area around it safe and was having problems of its own. There's no dang way it could have watched over it and thanks to the conflict the people would not care if they damaged it or not. It was either let it be shot up to hell because of the current problems going on in Syria or grab what they can and move it to a safer location with the possibility of angry letters being thrown at it. I think most people would have done the same thing in their situation. When saying this do not interpret this to mean Turkey never does tries to bully or try to make land grab claims. They do have territorial disputes with others. It's just that... this situation I get a gut feeling it isn't a land grab or another case of them bullying. I think they are just trying to minimize any possible danger to their historical figure's remains and tomb as well trying to avoid letting the situation erupt with more public outrage regarding this figure. They probably trying to avoid as much outrage from their own people along with the local Syrian government and its locals too. Turkey can't really... just let the site get possibly wrecked when the other government is so busy with its own issues to manage protecting the area around it for them. They are quite possibly doing them a favor by doing this. It might be preventing Syria from having a increase surge of outrage from people in Turkey being angry the conflict in their country damaged their important figure and grave. It is already having to deal so much as it is. It doesn't need more angry hot heads right now because of the conflict.

If you plan on doing more of these, you should look into Croatia, specifically the border with Bosnia in the southeast of Croatia. There's a small panhandle of Bosnia that reaches the Adriatic Sea and separates a whole area of Croatia, but that access to the sea is almost completely surrounded by Croatian peninsulas and islands. I believe Croatia gave that area to Bosnia during their war with Serbia, but actually that whole area is full of historic borders from when it was all Yugoslavia, so I'm sure there are plenty of bizarre borders around there. Not to mention people that consider themselves from a nationality that's not the country they actually live in.

Okay lets honestly think about that for a minute. The CSA would be a very large agricultural state. However if the CSA did suddenly reunite and split away from the USA, ignoring all of the laws against that being allowed, the CSA would still have to contend with an extreme amount of Social, and Political, unrest as the sudden departure from the Union would strike a massive blow to the economy because many of the states in the CSA actually send less money back to the Government than they receive each year. With that in mind, the CSA would likely not have an economy stronger than any nation in Eastern Europe (excluding Russia because Russia is strange).

A couple of odd borders you might like to explore in your videos - both concerning the Netherlands. The better known one is the towns of Baarle Nassau and Baarle Herzog, which are a mad patchwork of Belgian and Dutch land. The second is a real oddity though, and a great trivia question: where is the border between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and France? The answer - on the Caribbean island of St Martin!
