Also they didn't construct the towers as the designer planned. They were supposed to cover the beams with concrete and it never got done.

For those commenting about the fully fueled jet comment, in 1945 a plane accidentally crashed into the Empire State Building. When the towers were built, one of the things they did was build the towers to withstand the impact of a Boeing 707 traveling at 600 mph based on tests carried out in 1964 in case a similar accident occurred. The planes that hit the towers in 2001 were bigger than any planes that existed in 1964 and carried more fuel than those planes, and they were being flown by people who intended to cause maximum damage. The comment is definitely chilling when heard in this documentary, as are many other comments, but the comment didn't come from nowhere.
Honestly, the fact that larger airplanes hit the Twins and they stood as long as they did, allowing well over 25,000 to escape the premises of the complex is a testament to how well built they truly were. Any building that was hit by something as large as a 767 would collapse. There's no getting around that. It's just a matter of *when* they would fall.
It is true that there was a white paper that said the towers could withstand 707 impacts up to 600 mph, but the National Institute of Standards and Technology concluded that at the time of their design in the 60s, there wouldn’t have actually been sufficient technical capability to make that sort of analysis accurately. So essentially, they just said it could withstand impacts like that when they had know way of actually knowing if it could or not. Also since the previous incidents of planes crashing into buildings in New York both occurred when smaller aircraft at low speed were trying to land at JFK in thick fog, it would’ve been assumed that a plane crashing into the towers would most likely be flying slowly and have a small fuel load, as opposed to the nearly fully fueled airliners at 500mph on 9/11

And between 1993 and 2001 were endless lawsuits trying to get the asbestos removed from the towers but the insurance company legally not obligated to pay for it. The owners lost the cases.
Actually, the towers were not designed to survive a fully fueled jet. It was anticipated that a jet might get lost in the fog on landing, flying slow, the fuel almost depleted. This is why 911 brought the towers down, they never dreamed a fully fueled hijacked jet would be flown into them at high speed. They however did survive the impact, it was the fuel that compromised the steel.

I watched a documentary regarding the CIA, I think, having foreknowledge of the threat of another attack by Al Queda on the WTC towers. President Clinton didn't heed the repeated warnings from the CIA and didn't do anything to prevent the pending attack. 😢 I wonder if the 1993 bombing played a part in the towers completely coming down. Had they completed repairs from this attack before the 9/11 attacks?
When the bombing occurred, the charges did not carry a death sentence as a possible penalty. The penalty provisions were subsequently increased, but not available on the date of offense.

Secondly, in a jury trial, it's up to the jury to impose a death sentence: not the justice system. So blame the "jury of one's peers" for that failure.

Today is February 26,2022, the 29th anniversary of when this awful day came to the attention of the good people of NYC. This day is ultimately overshadowed by the attacks that came 8 years later but should still be remembered as a day of tragedy. John DiGiovanni, Robert Kirkpatrick, Stephen Knapp, William Macko, Wilfredo Mercado, and Monica Rodriguez Smith were the unfortunate 6 people who passed away. Yes, I was surprised about how few documentaries were made about this attack. It was leading up to the September 11 attacks, so it should be considered equally important IMO.
This attack was the precursor to the next terrorist attack which happened on 11th September 2001. Maybe there is truth in the statement that the day the main accused landed in America was when terrorism came to American soil. I was planning to take the PATH train from WTC to Hoboken that morning. I changed my plans and left from 9th St. uptown. The previous year, I had been transferred from my office 2 blocks south of WTC to uptown. I loved the mall under WTC. They had a coin store, the Manhattan Savings Bank branch had a live piano player, and there was a newsstand where I could get Le Monde and La Repubblica. I still occasionally think I should go down at Borders to shop, it was so good. Then I remember.

I always wondered if the bombing might have structurally weakened the building. Leading to the collapse in 2001. Maybe if the CIA and FBI had worked together this sort of thing wouldn't have happened.
Speaking of that, due to the 93 bombing, the Marriott (Vista) had a chunk reinforced due to said damage. Fast forward to September 11th, and that chunk survived the collapse, while the rest of the building was completely destroyed.

They were designed to withstand the impact of low-flying planes ,they were not specifically designed to withstand planes of a larger size, the ( Boeing 767) because that type of plane didn't exist when the towers were built but hey we're also not designed to survive a jet fuel fire, they were only designed to withstand a conventional fire.l

Yes, Holly Bigelow is correct. Don't forget, there weren't computerized systems to help air traffic controllers back then. And, we have learned a LOT about safety from all of the crashes we used to have. When I was a kid in the 1970s there were plane crashes all the time. You don't hear about too many these days. Accidents such as planes hitting tall buildings and towers used to happen all the time.
So unreal. When I first saw the building being hit on 9/11 I was with my son who told me to come to the tv and see it. I didn't believe him at first. It was like a movie, but in real life tragedy.
What amazed me was that there was one person the episode didn't mention. An informant by the name of Emad Salem who was an Egyptian army officer. Not to be confused with Mohammad Salameh. Emad told the FBI that there was a plot against the WTC months before the bombing took place. One of the investigating agents who was Emad's handler stated that the explosive compound was to be made and that if the attack would happen, the FBI would step in to stop it. So Emad decided that to make the bomb he would replace some of the material with inert ingredients. But his handler said no and was to be made as real as possible. Because of their involvement, and the FBI told Emad to make sure that Yousef, Salameh used real compounds and to provide routes, but Emad never got back to them. Instead he recorded lengthy hours of phone conversations with his handlers about the plot. After the convictions of the bombers, numerous agents involved with the case was kept from the media and indictments were handed out to key FBI agents for allowing the bombing to take place. About two dozen FBI agents were fired and a few were even imprisoned but no one knows who they are. This is what happens when the US government allows dangerous radicals into their country under false identities, and fraudulent passports in order to carry out bombing scenarios. What frightens me the most also, is that there are numerous mosques in New York with prayer speakers on the towers that allow everyone to hear that familiar sound of someone bellowing either the time or a prayer to worshippers. It actually makes one feel that they are in the thick city streets of a mid-east congested desert at noon in a busy Karachi bazaar.
After living in Europe for a few months now, I can tell you that there are a lot of them here as well with questionable "asylum claims" but they look and act more like gangs, get hired within legitimate immigration agencies and bring in more like them who then plan on heading to USA. They try to force other people to speak Arabic here over English. They come to Christian areas and set up shop reading Koran, telling others to read it and to wear hijab and lock out/ try to push out people who are not willing to join in.
