Sounds like an adventure! I used to own a very small battery operated guitar amp. I would place it on the ground and hold the guitar directly over it and it would make the worst squealing feedback in the world. It was great!
Thanks man! I thought it was pretty gnarly as well! I should do a new video with this B.K. Butler Tube Driver... Not a lot of videos out there with these. Thanks for watching!
The title is clickbait-y for sure. I hope you enjoyed the video nonetheless. Unfortunately the gods of RU-vid favor clickbaity titles, so at times, when I’m feeling frisky, this is what I do. Have a good one Taylor!
I got this tone in a much simpler way. Guitar Center shipped me a Mooer Blue Fuzz pedal in an Amazon envelope with very little padding. It fried up some blue smoke the first time I used it and sounds just like this now.
I've made a worse one. You have to turn the treble all the way up, mids and bass all the way down add a distortion, turn the gain all the way up, add a comp all the way up of course, use only the bridge pickup, use only pick, and turn the tone all the way up. It is SHRILL. EDIT: here it is ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--jXuiOqNcWg.html
@@thecheeseman31415 it sounds weak to me. I also like metal though so that kinda skews my viewpoint a lot. I like boom and punch with solid midrange so it’s audible, but overall more bassy and hums through the mix
the lip smacking from the speaker really makes it but honestly there isn't an overdriven bass tone on earth that sounds bad in an actual mix. the worst bass tone i ever heard came from "ugly", a literal fence post with bass strings on it, that has gutless and shrill chinese-made strat copy single coils at a 45 degree angle and out of phase, and a fretless buzz because the strings are too low, as it has carpentry nails for the bridge and nut. the project was very intentionally making the worst functional bass i could, i succeeded, at the cost of the innocence of millions.
At this point I’ve given up and I just play bass through my 15 watts Fender Frontman beginner’s combo. It’s ~$50 and sounds like shit on guitar but if you crank it with a bass and turn everything to 10 it spits out some absolutely nasty distortion and I love it for fast, aggressive leads.
This video stands as an excellent example of how tone is almost entirely subjective and contextual. This tone, for example, sounds farty at first, but becomes likable quickly within the music. A vocal example would be Just A Friend by Biz Markie, he sings the chorus of his song so badly but it's so charming it ends up great. Great vid BTW lol
I've always felt like if your bass tone doesn't make someone's face look like they just smelled something awful, it's not gnarly enough. This is exactly that. Love it.
Honestly I love this. When I first started playing like 20 years ago, I had this little Fender 1x10 practice amp that I ran so hot I blew the speaker in. I was after that Geezer tone and hand to God it sounded better than any distortion pedal I've ever used. This is similar to that. A little warmer and a little less fuzzy, but it reminds me of the good old days before I knew enough to box myself in.
Ok im a beginner in bass who is trying to understand tones can someone kindly explain why this tone is a terrible one? A fat, thick tone with less gain may be more acceptable but i can swear i heard this aggresive tone in various bands (usually in metal and punk ofc especially leaning to the more extreme music). Keep that in my i still may still be talking complete bullshit bc i am a beginner so im not sure of anything i've said. If anyone can clarify i would really appreciate it!
@@samchoate1719 lol ok then :D. Tbh the tone was almost the exact tone that i was trying to reach with my bass and i had a major shock when i saw the title and was afraid to start all over again with my taste lmao
i think this video is kinda sarcastic, because some times tone is super personal, you can dile in a crapy tone and think it sound cool in your style of music concept, and what really maters is the sound identity you come up with.
that sounds awesome! Yeah, I've since been tracking almost exclusively with an amp tone with a little grit, and a clean DI and then mixing them together in post. Thanks!
Sounds like a synth bass mixed with a bass, actually super cool tbh, feel like it could maybe work in a more electronic rock setting/mix not sure though Sounds just like Time is Running Out or Hysteria by Muse actually
I don’t hate the sound, but it’s different from what is considered good, to me I hear that rather than this being a “heavy” bass tone it sounds congested and almost shallow
But does it beat my made in Korea Squire Jaguar, with a broken battery plate, dying battery, strings that buzz on every single fret, and tuners that move as soon as you hit one note?
i mean.... you reaully just have your bass make up the upper mids...which makes it sound AWESOME!!!!! YOU COULD HAVE THE WHOLØE RHYTHYM SECTION BE THAT BASS!!!
Nah mate if you want a bad tone lower everything but the treble, max out the treble, then get all of your EQ stuff and lower everything but the high mids and the treble, then add a distortion, reverb, delay, and temalo in that order and max everything out Pure noise and you could probably go further with like a wah or a an acustic emulator
