Natalie Imbrulia at the time of "Torn" was married to Daniel Johns from Silverchair. She started off on the Australian soap opera "Neighbours" before she started singing like her fellow allumi of the show Kylie Minogue.
Mambo Number 5 is a story of inspiration and dedication. I mean Lou Bega had to write four other Mambos and none of them went anywhere before he wrote Mambo number 5 and finally made a hit.
one of my buddies saw that dude live as an opener for some other horse shit and he apparently had nothing else to go on and did the song twice in the set
I'll never forget the first time I heard Finn realize he was old. I was taking my dying elderly Aunt Gertrude to her chemo appointment and my car's bluetooth connected to TPRMBA. Finn's voice blasted out of the speakers...pontificating on Hatebreed lyrics or some shit. In a panic I jumped to turn down my stereo fearing I'd blow her poor eardrums out. She said "Don't turn down your stereo for me...crank it up!" Miss you Gertie.
My dad and I watched this video together five minutes ago. Then he walked outside and was hit by a hog that fell from a cargo plane. He died. So, now when I watch this again ten minutes later, all I can think of is how my dad loved this video until he was hit by the random flying pig.
I remember watching my uncle die at the hospital. I was playing your videos at the moment and was able to get through it without getting bummed. Thanks Finn. RIP uncle but not everything is about you
I've had a huge crush as a kid on Natalie Imbruglia. I remember Mtv playing music videos with random facts about the artists, and one of hers was that she was a bullied at school, and in Arthur s fist meme fashion all a naive teenager like me wanted is to save her from those bullies and tell her how amazing she was.
I was with my suger momma listening to this Finn, many years ago, but she's gone now. thanks for the laughs. I know she's looking down right now happy that i can still watch another classic Finn, crapping on my favorite oldies video.
Achy breaky heart spanish version "No rompas mas" is always a blast at Mexican weddings, everyone runs to the pit when listen to the chorus and goes nuts when the riff starts
I've just been to a Mexican wedding and the first 90 minutes was solidly Pitbull songs. Then they played Las Ketchup and all the non-Mexicans got up to dance.
I didn't realise that line dancing was a thing at mexican weddings until my own wedding (British guy married to a Mexican woman and living in Mexico) I've been to several weddings here since and I still haven't figured out the steps... And don't even get me started on the fucking rodeo clown song!
@particlejim You brits are still trying to get into Mexcio dammit. Viva la Espana! What was it like moving to Mexico and being the first Brit to ever taste spices on your food?
Fun Fact: Billy Ray Cyrus peaked at No.1 at the album charts in 1992, on No.2 was Megadeth''s biggest success album "Countdown to Extinction". Something Mustaine can' t get over with' next to the Metallica thing.^^
@@davidcrawford8583 However, we were left in a state of shock when we found out that it was actually a cover of another artist’s song. In 1993, the song was written for Danish singer Lis Sørensen and was later recorded by rock band, Ednaswap. However, the track didn’t garner much attention until a few years later when Natalie gave us all the feels with her version.
Billy Ray Cyrus has an amazing legacy. He has one of the biggest country songs of all time, he’s the father of Miley Cyrus, Noah Cyrus and Trace Cyrus from Metro Station. He’s also on the most popular version of old town road, one of the biggest songs of all time. That’s something to be proud of
Billy Ray Cyrus also starred in the hit Disney series Hannah Montana as none other than the esteemed and dignified Billy Ray Cyrus, father to Miley Cyrus aka Hannah Montana.
I have been all over the comments talking about what a skilled business entertainment star Billy Ray is. The dude cant stop winning. What he did by jumping on Old Town Road in order to help Lil Nas X get back on country charts and radio was GENIUS. I don't personally like the song, but it would NEVER have gotten to where is did without Billy helping Nas X with the remix.
My dad invented metal line dancing at a Napalm Death gig in 1989. Unfortunately, when he launched himself off the stage he got tangled up in Shane Embury’s bass cord and asphyxiated. I cry for hours every time I hear You Suffer.
Best thing about "jump around" was it was written by DJ muggs for cypress hill. B-real said "no chance" so muggs gave it to house of pain, but when it became a hit cypress hill started performing it.
I grew up in Central/Eastern Kentucky - if you weren't there you can't understand how big Billy Ray was. He was everywhere, my local country store sold bootleg tapes of "Achy Breaky Heart" and during our little local Fourth of July celebration they would Clog (you remember clogging?) to "Achy Breaky Heart" lol
Billy Ray doesn't get enough cred because most people only hear music, you know what i mean? The large majority of people are do not listen listen like that. Anyone in the know, knows Bill Ray Cyrus has his hand in so many cookie jars that he'd have beem super successful evem before he created one of the largest mega stars ever in hois daughter. Also he is not a one hit wonder anymore, a 90s ohw for sure. But hate it or love it, him jumping on Old Town Road in order to help Lil Nas X get his song back onto country charts was GENIUS.
Natalie: "I'm all out of faith" Me: "k, so?" Natalie: "this is how I feel" Me: "whatever" Natalie: "I'm cold and I'm alone" Me: "don't care" Natalie: "lying naked on the floor" Me: "YOU HAVE MY FULL AND UNDIVIDED ATTENTION!" And that is the story of how this became a hit.
Euro dance is the best electronic dance music. Bloodhound Gang's electronic songs are pure gold and I'm surprised they don't play them at clubs. Although I haven't gone to any clubs to verify this, it probably is the case.
I hope that Finn is comforted by the fact that irl Natalie married the singer of Silverchair. So even though video clip Natalie was into Chad's, irl Natalie dug alternative guys who were into her poetry 😂
My ancestor from 1563 died while watching C&C music factory because he wouldnt dance now as he was busy fighting off the saxons. So this worst & best video hits hard 😥😥 RIP in peace hans 🙏🙏
Fellow Gen X-er here! Your intro on facing your mortality hit close to home! I remember waiting tables at Pizza Hut when "Ackey Break-y Heart" was played in the restaurant more than I cared for because I worshiped at the alter of Nirvana in 1992 lol
Fun Fact: Natalie Imbruglia in the 'Torn' video was the direct inspiration for Lammy from the PS1 game 'Um Jammer Lammy', which spun off from 'PaRappa the Rapper"
I'm surprised that no mention is made of the fact that, after House Of Pain, DJ Lethal was in Limp Bizkit (who are the greatest joke of the scene which spawned them too), and Everlast went on to do folk-hop songs like "What It's Like."
@Bill Adams. Eminem then dissed Everlast as they had beef, and Em said in one of his songs that Limp stole DJ Lethal from Everlast as a dig, basically saying even DJ Lethal didn’t want anything to do with Everlast. Then ironically Eminem then on had beef with DJ Lethal, and was annoyed with Fred. What happened was Fred wanted Eminem to do a collab with Limp Bizkit. Em was cool with that, Em said yeah let’s do a collab. Then Fred and Eminem was trying to work with each other but Fred is notorious for being picky and fussy with his material, so Fred didn’t like anything that he and Eminem was doing. So Em got annoyed with Fred being really fussy and Em basically said whatever dude I’m out. So then Eminem dissed him on one of his tracks but Em had more beef with DJ Lethal, I’m not sure what the Eminem and Lethal beef was about though. But Em dissed DJ Lethal on the same track. Eminem was at first good friends with Fred Durst, Eminem appeared on Limp Bizkit’s Break Stuff video. And before Eminem got famous he was in the music video for KoRn’s Got The Life, as they were having a party while shooting the video. You can see Fred Durst, Tito Ortiz and Eminem for split seconds in the party while they were shooting the video for KoRn’s Got The Life. Eminem then tried to give Munky from KoRn his tapes during that party, but Munky said in an interview that he was drunk as fuck when Eminem came up to him, and only remembers Eminem coming up to him with tapes and then saying to Eminem, I’m just the guitar player. But just a year or even months later Dr Dre saw Em and signed him. Jonathan Davis teases that to Munky a lot by saying they could’ve been billionaires by now if they had signed Eminem.
Here en Mexico there's a spanish version that we dance at weddings, at clubs, at parties, etc. and it's called "No rompas más mi pobre corazón - Caballo dorado"
Finn. You're awesome bro. You do a great job man...I grew up in Albany, NY in the late 80s and 90s punk hardcore era...good times....but anyways I just wanted to say thanks, your content is super entertaining. Keep it up brother Thanks.
The power of alcohol makes many of these hold up. Particularly Mambo No. 5. Play that in a pub on Saturday night and punters go mental. Natalie Imbruglia was married to Daniel Johns from Silverchair. haha. Love the channel.
I remember Mambo No. 5 being played everywhere. It was a Summer song. I was at the kid’s table hearing this at a neighborhood cookout, thinking Wow this song is really popular
There's a local Toyota dealership that uses Mambo No. 5 the basis for a jingle in an ad the play all the time on TV or the radio, and I'll be damned but it's truly effective at getting stuck rent free in my head for the rest of the day.
One of my favorite 90s subgenres is the Euro dance songs that had the sassy R&Bish singer belting the choruses and the gravelly voiced guy rapping the verses/bridge. This includes "Gonna Make You Sweat" but also "Be My Lover," "Around the World," Barbie Girl," etc. Basically, roller rink music.
Love your channel Finn..... anyway the guy in the sweater dancing with your ex girl is actor Jeremy Sheffield who was in a ton of UK tv shows (mostly soaps), however seeing as your a rock guy just to point out that he also appeared in the video to Queen's I want to break free haha. Love you bro
thanks for channeling me on the Natalie Imbruglia video, also the House of Pain fans you described we would call peckerwoods, are those even a thing anymore? I find it funny that they were from LA and not Boston or something.
This video just reminds me of my favourite RU-vidr who used to make a series of "The WORST & Best 90s One Hit Wonders" videos. I couldn't even finish this one man... RIP Finn...
I remember every one of these songs. And Natalie was IT for me. I've always loved my goth girls, but I loved Natalie back then. I listened to the song even though I didn't like it back then. Lol.
Come for the top tier comedy, stay for the existential crisis musings! 😅 I’d love to see a kick line at a Lorna show. I feel like Will would join in himself.
I live in Tennessee. Achy Breaky Heart was everywhere all at once. Line dancing to it was a big thing in country bars. He had a minor follow up hit with Dolly Parton called Romeo.
I just got home from Karaoke at my local bar. "Chad" sang almost every song on this list except C&C Music Factory. That was played in between "performers"
House of Pain looks like the kids from the movie Kids. That Vitamin C song came out during my senior year in high school and became our unofficial anthem. 😂🤦🏻♂️
Finn incel energy coming out at the end and I'm all for it! Let that midriff wearing himbo have it, lol! And that Vitamin C video has what I call the American Pie aesthetic. And I'll forever have a thing for that hairstyle, whatever you wanna call it. It's like the female equivalent of the bleached, spiked look all the guys had, but spikes are long and downward and hair was orange or pink or streaked.
Ha. As kids, me and my cousin went to one of those karaoke booths that would give you a cassette tape of your performance afterwards. The song we did... Achy Breaky Heart!
very glad you call out the sappy comments on passed relatives, next you need to call out the butt kissers. you know the commenters who think their favorite youtubers is their best friend and they need to be the first commenter to say how much they love him/her and wakup with a smile when they see a new vid...
Mambo No 5 is a fucking banger, one of the greatest one hit wonders ever. Also Torn by Natalie Imbruglia, Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, Unbelievable by EMF, Trouble by Shampoo, and If You Could Only See by Tonic. They are the greatest one hit wonders of the 90’s. I was also going to add Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer but they had 2 hits with a cover of There She Goes.
@@williamz7011 the Goo Goo Dolls have their most recent top 40 hit in 2006 they were making mainstream hits for over a decade and this dude's calling them a one hit wonder. It reminds me of when Scott Kramer called Duran Duran a one hit wonder in one of his videos and the comments were lighting him up reminding him that Duran Duran had a top 40 hit in 2016.
Mambo no. 5 is THE prime wedding song in my friend group along with Suavemente. It's very entertaining to watch our group of early-20-something go crazy while the grandparents are swing dancing on the other side.
weird fun fact about lou bega: he's german. you can find plenty of german language interviews with him and it's kinda trippy because he fooled the world into thinking he was probably from new orleans or smth by the way he talks
my old pal, George Edison "Bane" Ellsworth II used to watch all Finn Mckenty streams, stream highlights, and PRMBA videos before he was tragically unalived in an unfortunate bowling accident. may he rip in pizza. 🙏 🙏 🙏
My dead relative story for jump around was my dad was telling me a story where he and some other guys were working with his dad (my grandpa) in the shop with the radio blasting that song, grandpa was in the other room trying to focus on something and walked out into the shop and grabbed the radio and threw it on the ground and yelled “F***” and kicked it across the room, then went back into his office to finish what he was working on and everyone stared at my dad like “wtf” as he just shrugged and got back to work. RIP grandpa Roy you legend.
Natalie Imbruglia was massive over here in the UK with several top 10 hits and at least 3 albums in the top 20. "Torn" was a cover of an obscure Scandinavian artist and I think there was a legal battle over it.
I saw a comment during Torn that said someone needs to cover this on the next punk goes 90's but the band Hands Like Houses actually did just that and it's a great cover in my opinion. Worth a listen if you like the original.
