ThePerksOfBooks To be honest I liked the story. You have to go in understanding that it's not going to be like the ones written by J.K. Rowling and that it would have moments that'd make you go "wtf?" But in the end you just laugh at those moments and shrug it off

Megan Perney I downloaded it...honestly was like "ha this is fake". Went and bought it. ... ... It was the same thing I downloaded. Shockingly bad...so bad. And I read it the day it came out before I read any reviews or spoke to any friends or fans...it read like teen fan fiction, only the authors were only vaguely familiar with what made HP special. It isn't the eighth HP story. It is a failed experiment. Sort of like The Star Wars Christmas Special. We will soon all forget it existed... I'd be gutted if they started releasing the script as part of the box set. However...I LOVED FANTASTIC BEASTS!!!! So that more than made up for it

Cursed Child was so unnecessary, it could've remained a play and didn't need to at all be marketed. It felt like such a fanfiction to me and disappointed so many. At least we had Fantastic Beasts.
@luna160881
@luna160881 7 лет назад
I liked the idea for Cursed Child , loved Scorpious...what I didn't like was ALL the adult characters (Harry, Ron, Minerva even) being so out of character and the fanfiction vibe was waaaay to much. I wish it would have been marketed as just a play, something for fun, instead of being like "This IS Harry Potter 8", because as a side play it is a nice addition to the story and feels pretty magical, but it's no continuation of THE Harry Potter series.

I think I'd be here for an hour typing a comment about how much I hate the Cursed Child. It's barely fit to be used in a fire. The story was horrendous, the characters were ripped to shreds, the way it smacked canon and tossed it to the side was ridiculous. I have more respect for 50 Shades of Grey as a fanfic for Twilight than I do for the Cursed Child play. (And trust me, I'm so not fond of 50 shades either--yeesh!) The only redemption to the play was Scorpius. And the fact that Albus was in Slytherin (But um, can we please hear exactly WHY JKR thought it'd be a good idea for Harry to name his son after the two people who he had the most complicated relationships with? It makes zero sense to me to this day.)
@CreatingCo
@CreatingCo 7 лет назад
Also, I typed this right before you started talking about how much it destroyed canon. haha.
@scarredxangel
@scarredxangel 7 лет назад
Creating&Co Girl I agree with you so much but there's someone no one ever seems to mentions. Harry going back to Godrics hollow to watch something (I'm sure you know what I mean without me mentioning it) but I felt it was such a slap in the fact to his character and was far too cruel of a thing to do.
@CreatingCo
@CreatingCo 7 лет назад
Cece Cheung yes!! that was the single most cruel thing that could ever be allowed to happen to his character. you're going to put him through ALL of the things he went through and THEN make him go through that too?!
@scarredxangel
@scarredxangel 7 лет назад
Creating&Co And make sure he can't do anything to stop it. That's when the book hit no 1 on my most hated books of all time. So much so that it will be left out of my version of canon. I feel people are so caught up in the amazing performances the actors give in the play that they aren't really paying much attention to the plot. The script book helps figure out what's going on.
@CreatingCo
@CreatingCo 7 лет назад
I agree! I think it would be a great play to see, honestly. Just because it would be fun to see the magic in that medium but the plot is horrendous.

I think the advertising of the Cursed Child was ridiculous. It is not the eighth Harry Potter book at all so stop telling people it is. I absolutely loved Scorpius too, he stole the show. The plot was obviously a ridiculous fanfiction, but after I accepted it wasn't cannon I found it quite humorous.

People are going to hate me, but I really didn't like Eleanor&Park and Fangirl this year. Not saying they're bad, but I read some pretty great books this year, so they were just like 'meh'... Also Cursed Child of course. This was probably the worst book I've ever read. And I was pretty disappointed by Queen of Shadows, though it was still good.

Snorri Snibble I was not impressed by Queen of Shadows too. After giving Heir of Fire one star rating, I knew I didn't need to get my expectation high for the fourth book. Is it me or has it gone in completely different direction?

I read Shatter Me and was severely disappointed by how little substance I got from it. The writing style felt like a cop out from actually having to write more than an actual style, too. Yup. I haven't read the first one you mentioned because I haven't finished Harry Potter yet, but I've heard a lot of the hate. I think a lot of people forget that IT WASN'T WRITTEN BY J.K. ROWLING. I feel like I'm the only one who was disappointed with the Young Elites. Like the story idea was amazing and it did have a lot of interesting events but I just felt like someone took the best events from a book and smashed them together. The characterization kinda fell flat and it was hard for me to connect with any of them. And that ending really threw me since I felt like I was barely starting to like a couple characters :/

"Integrity of the original series" In the final book there's a protection shield spell that could have been used all along to protect Harry and the school and keep him away from the abusive family. And most of the problems could have been avoided by just being straight forward with Harry at the start.

I was pretty disappointed with Theft of Swords as well. I feel like the synopsis promised a great book, and then at some point it all reverted to generic fantasy tropes. Elves? Check. Dragon? Check. Damsel in distress? Check. Magical swords? Check. And so on. I've read so much fantasy at this point that if an author is going to chuck all of that into his novel, it better be done *well*. Theft of Swords was just kind of... average.

You're brave talking about the worst books. I stopped writing reviews about anything that I couldn't recommend because authors started sending me nasty emails. I don't need that in my life. Hopefully the authors won't see this and if they do, hopefully they'll be professional enough to not act like a toddler. I do leave written reviews on Amazon for books that are really badly written or edited though, for the sake of readers.

Honestly plays are not meant to be read. That includes Shakespeare. That's why most people hate Shakespeare in high school. It is meant to be watched, not read. The Cursed Child is NOT a book, but a script. That is why you were disappointed.
@ashleyf5315
@ashleyf5315 7 лет назад
Not true. She said that she was disappointed because of characterization, not the way things were written. The characters acted unnaturally, and seeing the script acted out wouldn't change that disappointment. I can see what you're saying, but it doesn't really apply in Reagan's case. :/
@laylabahmanziari7663
@laylabahmanziari7663 7 лет назад
Let me tell you a thing; it felt like the characters were acting unnaturally because you were supposed to actually SEE the characters acting, not just read it. The reason why some dialogue might have felt strange is because you weren't there to see them act it out. It wasn't WRITTEN to be READ. It was WRITTEN to be watched, therefor it is completely unfair to judge ANY aspect of the story before watching the actual play.
@reegankay9799
@reegankay9799 7 лет назад
Ziaria what was the point in publishing the play if it were not able to be enjoyed in its written form? Shakespeare is often just as bad acted out as it is on a page. Don't invalidate her feelings about the play simply because you have a different perspective. Let ME tell YOU something, The Cursed Child simply wasn't enjoyable for some, no matter the format.

I didn't like it cause the characters were wrong and that has nothing to do with seeing it as a play for example (in MY opinion) Harry's personality was completely wrong and just was really messed up. As well as other characters.

It blows my mind that you not only disliked Theft of Swords but you put it in the "worst books" you read this year. I wouldn't say I love the book as much as my favorites because I agree that you don't get a strong emotional connection with the main characters at first because we don't get to really know them (they seem more like clichés of themselves than like full-blown characters if that makes sense?) but I still like this series a whole lot! The humor cracks me up, the plot is surprising and the characters (especially a couple of them) start to really tug at your heart strings in the following books. To me, this series is an amazing take on classic "sword and sorcery" which made me laugh a lot and kept taking me by surprise. I really hope you give the next book a chance and others don't write off the seriers before having read it (thank you for reminding us at the end to be our own judges about books). But anyway: loved the video as always, love your channel! Can't wait for more in this new year!

My main (and probably stupid) problems of The Cursed Child: -Still not over Ron being drunk at Hermione's wedding. It just isn't right. Why the Hell would he throw away the moment he'd been waiting for for LITERALLY YEARS?? -Why did Voldermort have a child with Bellatrix? What even... -The lack of development between Rose and Scorpius. It kinda felt out of nowhere. Scorbus would've made more sense -Going back to Godric's Hollow was stupid -The plot was stupid -It was all stupid -Send help

la divergente velocista gallagher girl della bottega dei 99 profumi dal distretto 12 I loved the PJO series! I just hate the fact that there was SO MUCH FOCUS ON THE LOVE INTERESTS. I mean, yeah, I get that there's bound to be some sort of love story going on but it kinda feels like the romance overpowers the fantasy aspect of it. I did like MoA a bit better than the first two books but... I'm so unmotivated to finish it. I hope I don't offend anybody 😅

If you're still wanting to check out Michael J Sullivan's books I suggest you check out the Riyria prequels first (The Crown Tower, The Rose and the Thorn, and the Death of Dulgath). I enjoyed the Theft of Swords, and the following books, but have to say I liked the prequels more. Found I got a little more attached to the characters with the extra backstory they gave. That and they are a good deal shorter haha.

The idea that Cedric Diggory would become a death eater because he was embarrassed or failed at the Triwizard tournament was just RIDICULOUS and SILLY! Also Hermione being bitter if she and Ron didn't end up?! Wtf that's not Hermione: she would still be kind and I believe she would have moved on with dignity. There are so many flaws in this book. I did like Draco and his love for his dead wife and Scorpius is precious.

I'm really scared to read Harry Potter and The Cursed Child now. I got it because you know Harry Potter but have been putting it off for months. Also, what book is above Uprooted on your shelf?? The spine looks so pretty but I can't tell what it is.

The worst book I "read" in 2016 was Truthwitch by Susan Dennard. I got through like 3 chapters before I decided to DNF it and it sucks because it was my most anticipated book of 2016 and it was awful! There was no world building whatsoever! I honestly felt like I was being thrown into a maze blindfolded while reading that book.

So glad I'm not the only one who disliked Every Heart a Doorway. I did NOT get it. The concept is amazing, but I hated the murder mystery. It felt too random and the characters didn't get any real development either, except for the fact that they were transsexual and asexual.

Charlie Book Fanatic This was my view EXACTLY. I kept hearing so much hype about this book and couldn't have been more disappointed with it. The potential was there, but the execution was seriously lacking. I also hated the murder mystery. It felt rushed and ultimately out of place with the rest of the story. I also felt like a majority of the characters were unlikeable and unsympathetic, along with being underdeveloped.

I loved the harry potter book. But also, I enjoyed every heart a doorway. I did feel like the problems in it were solved way too quickly but it was still a good read. And it's the first in a series. The next one comes out in June. It's all about Jack and Jill's story.

Do you (creator or anyone reading comments) know of any other YT etc creator doing reviews for a genre outside of YA or even adult fiction? Something that strives to be a little more like timeless art and not so much of a ... product ...? I've just tried Top 43 Novels You Have to Read Because So Many People Say They're So Amazing lists' suggestions and IF their synopses were intriguing enough, their prose wasn't... and I need so much help with a good story...
