Just don’t lift the wipers up.. If you’re remote starting the truck, the defrosters will unstick the wipers from the windshield pretty quickly. If you’re not remote starting the truck, you can usually just pull up on the wipers and let them smack back down a couple times to shake off any ice that’s accumulated.
Yeah scared the crap out of me the first time it happened lol. Luckily it didn’t chip my paint but I know 3M makes some clear protective automotive tape that could help. Not sure it does this on the Ecoboost also.
I bought on of those windshield covers at Walmart, flaps that are secured by the doors. I was driving home while everyone else was scraping and freezing.
If you read the manual you would know how the wipers work. I've driven in northern plains states for 55 years and have never put my wipers up from the windshield like that. Also, variant, not varient.
So I have the XLT Hybrid with the Luxury Package and one of the features is a heater coil in the windshield for the wipers. To my mind, that should negate the need to raise your wipers and you can still remotely start your truck and defrost/melt around the wipers.
I have one of the first. The feature you describe is not in the wipers. They did claim that the lip shoves some heat over the wipers on the outside. That is not enough if I have any more than an inch of snow.
I've driven in upper Midwest winters for over 30 years. There has not been one single time where I turned the wipers on when they were up. Never even crossed my mind to do so. Not a good idea to leave them up to begin with, since it stretches out the springs. Would much rather have this "issue" than the pop-out door handles many EVs are using, which are obviously designed by people who have never dealt with winter conditions. Those things are ridiculous.
You missed most of the video if that was your takeaway friend. The wipers move as soon as the vehicle is turned on... My problem could easily be fixed with a firmware update. Fingers crossed ford reads my email! 🤣
You can use clear nail polish you'll set in the wintertime and give me some protection till Spring. Then just use a little acetone in the springtime take the nail polish off and use your touch of pain that's what I do in New York
WOW, no big deal. I turn my key on, turn the wrappers on and as soon as it’s at the top I turn the key off and there they stay. I can remote start and they don’t move till I start with the key. I don’t lift them away from the glass, no problem.
The easiest way to keep snow out of the windshield wiper valley is use a windshield cover it covers the opening and keeps the valley clean no worries of it getting filled with snow and you do not need to raise the wipers I have not had any problem with snow here in Ontario Canada
The immediate slamming down is called returning to the park position. This is NORMAL Putting the wipers up is not something Ford would recommend or expect an owner to do. The windshield may also get damaged if your raised wipers happen to slam down due to high winds. It is a case of "Doctor, it hurts when I hit my thumb with this hammer" Thumbs were not designed to be hit with a hammer. Hammers are meant to be used to drive nails. Use a windshield cover or, better yet, keep an ice scraper in the vehicle. Since the damage has already occurred and it is winter and touch up paint may not adhere well, dab a little Vaseline on the spot until the weather warms up.
My Maverick has a deicing element for the wiper blades which quickly melts the blades and ice. I heard ford was only including them in the Canadian models af the 2023 model year. They work great.
No heating element in the blades themselves with my 2022 here in the USA. Everyone tells me that there is a small amount of heat that gets radiated to them though. Not as quick of a solution but I suppose it's something!
@@IllInformedHuman the element in my truck is built into the windshield where the wipers sit. When I turn on the max defrost and heated mirrors it melts ice/snow pretty fast around the wipers.. rear window should have standard defrosting elements. Pretty dumb not having as standard safety feature.
Yea, I agree. I have gotten used to "USA" products not meeting the needs of the entire country. They seem to focus only on a handful of states. @@craigcraigster5605
I clicked on this vid cause I wanted to see how it would fare New England winters and you made that clear by trying to back up a 2 degree hill with less than an inch of snow and not being able to w/o having to do something the make it work. I would love the hybrid, but we have 6 months of winter here and it just wouldn't make sense, unfortunately.
Great video! Are those the stock continental tires?? Keep in mind too that the 2022-2023 mavericks have windshield wiper deicers. There are vents in the windshield that direct warm air onto the blades to melt ice. If you run the truck for 10 min from remote start, the wipers are always unstuck by the time I get out unless it’s inches of snow.
Yea, stock tires. The wipers do alright if it is just ice, however its the inches of snow part that happens fairly frequently around here. Digging the snow out of that gap is a pain in the butt! I should have mentioned that in the video 🥲
Leaving the wipers up is convenient but the loss of it isn’t the end of the world. You can have your wipers up or remote start but not both. The wiper spring isn’t designed for long term extension. They will stretch over time. There is a wiper park procedure in the manual that you’re not using and should be used if you’re leaving your wipers up. What you’re doing isn’t recommended. Read your manual. I’m sure the Maverick Hybrid handles like other FWD cars in the snow. Tires for both FWD and AWD make the difference. More so on the FWD as far as getting started and maintaining forward movement.
I assume you are talking about what the manual refers to as the "service position". They say to run the wipers while in accessory mode until they are in the middle of the windshield unless obstructed with snow and ice. For "wiper park" it states that the mode will be active whenever you switch on the side mirror heat. The only precautions for wipers are to leave them off when going through a car wash and to not run them on a dry windshield. It does not state that they cannot be left in the service position. It also does not bring up that you can leave them in service position, thus the debate. I will assume you don't actually own a maverick since you have clearly not READ YOUR MANUAL!
I have been driving for about 60 years and have lived in places where it gets to MINUS 40 and a foot or more of snow in a single night. I have never even heard of leaving wipers up like you show here. Your method is guaranteed to burn out the wiper motor if you have an inch of ice on the arms with the blades up.
Dumb question if you have auto start to warm up your truck then why would you need to leave them up anyway , wouldn't your defrost have things ready to go by the time you get to your truck?
Not when I have a bunch of snow. Over an inch on the windshield freezes them to the windshield and I have to dig around them. The defrosters don't work well in that condition.
Not sure where you are. I'm in Wisconsin too, a but North of Madison. I have an XLT ecoboost AWD coming. Hopefully I'll take delivery around Christmas.
@@IllInformedHuman no. It is a bad feature. I’m stating that this is not only just the Maverick. Makes it very hard to change wiper blades. Auto engineers make things harder than they should be
Any car in the world resets the wipers when you turn it on. Also if you're remote starting, just have the defrost on high, that will take care of the windshield so you dont have to leave the wipers up. Or, just get in and drive, and forget the remote start.
@@IllInformedHuman I didn’t say lip, I was referring to how they all go back to “home” when you turn on the car. But if youre going to remote start it, it isnt really necessary to flip them up, just blast the defrost.
Never leave your wiper blades fully up like that at any time on any vehicle, regardless if you can. The springs are not built for that and that's a gust of wind away from a broken windshield. Just leave them down. Lift them up, slightly, to clean the snow away in the cowl, so your windows don't fog, and then put them back in place. This way if your wipers are iced up, it'll give them a chance to get heat on them to melt. Use your defrost and A/C, together, if possible, as the A/C acts as a defogger if your vehicle doesn't have an auto defog feature. If you can't do both the A/C and defrost together, crack a window open a bit. This creates equal air pressure and can help clear your fogged up windows faster.
Tell all of the Midwest that it is a bad idea to leave the wiper blades fully erect. I feel like you are being a bit of an alarmist in regards to your cracked windshield comment, but you do you. And, of course, there are a ton of solutions, I just wanted to vent... and maybe get ford to send a firmware update 🤣
Its been my experience that when the temp is 31ish the first layer of snow that falls on the hood melts and then freezes. Freezing rain is also a good reason to raise the wipers@@jdgolf499
Haul that "more crap" windshield canvas around with you in the winter. Get rid of all your extra summer junk to make room. I change from summer to winter stuff every 6 months.
