Some 2 bit developer shat out a piece of budget shovelware. There's the full story

Kronos president Stan Liu recounted: In April of 1995, Vic Tokai approached us and agreed to publish our first original title provided that we can have it out by Christmas that very same year. Needless to say, we were extremely excited, but we didn’t even have a single PlayStation development system as of yet! I repeatedly explained to our external producer from Vic Tokai that it was an impossible schedule, there was no possible way that we can create a game on a brand new platform in less than six-months time. We were then shown the actual contract and the check for the development. At that point, all our doubts instantly turned into desperation and greed! We needed and wanted so very badly to break into the game industry. We decided to take the chance and see if we truly had what it takes to make it happen, to be a "game developer."[1]

@@KaminariHouse Both games seem like they had these cool ideas for cinematics, either Live Action or CGI and then were like, "Oh right, we still have to make a game too, huh?"

@@Kasaaz Yeah, TG even more so. The Mortal Kombat live action mixed with 90s anime characters was a very weird choice though. But besides the jank (Elf Jinny, Red Dawn's 5-hit kills, etc), it had some impressively good voice acting, character designs and music (mostly).

Same here man. I'm playing Hades on the Switch right now and enjoying it. Currently doing Post-Game stuff right now and hopefully progress the Story to the true end of it I think.

Same. I probably still have this piece of crap game around here somewhere since the only fighting game I ever returned was _Ultimate MK Trilogy_ due to the A.I. being 100% precognitive. I should have returned this too though since _Ballz_ is legitimately a better fighting game. I wouldn't be surprised if even the infamous _Tattoo Assassins_ was better or at least had fewer issues.

It really truly is the worst fighting game ever made. Shaq Fu, Rise of the Robots, 3D Ballz, all better than Criticom. I had this game as a kid and tried SO HARD to like it because I liked robots and sci fi. But no. It's ultimate, next-level trash.

@@mediaultra3178 It was originally known as Criticom II before getting renamed. It was also originally supposed to come out for the Saturn.

The game play was sluggish but the story was interesting. Another cool aspect of the game waa unlockable character transformations.

But mk11 is actually good.

@@derrickhaggard Both Cardinal Syn and Dark Rift on the N64 were basically spin-off/sequels to this game by the same dev and both games are eons better than this.

Is that when this game was released? I didn't get my PS1 until 1997 so that explains why I've never heard of it. The first game I got was Battle Arena though and I actually loved it so maybe I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference? lol

Though the Scrubs have disbanded, the barrel wanders ever onward in search of new masters to scrape at its depths.

Tons of sci-fi ps1 games had a quiet unnerving and cold atmosphere and I think it was just a weird trend going around Fighting Force 2 is a good example.

I'm just confused that all this exposition/backstory was for an RPG, NOT a fighting game.

I love when fighting games break the norm on that kinda thing. My favorites have been the BlazBlue series and an old JoJo fighting game i can't recall the name of currently
