As a companion to this video, it would be useful for people here to know 3-5 natural ways other than water and brushing to remove harmful bacterial or acids from the mouth. Some examples: xylitol, salt, baking soda and calcium carbonate.
@Magnulus76
@Magnulus76 2 года назад
Xylitol is good, but it's not a substitute for brushing or a mouthwash. Xylitol is more of a long-term oral hygene strategy to combat the dysbiosis that causes cavities and gum disease in the first place.

Also enamel can remineralises after acidic lemon/orange juices from the natural minerals in saliva so you still can have them and your enamel stays as strong as it is, plus after drinking soda don’t brush your teeth at least for 30 minuets because it can take off that enamel out

Up until recently to a few a years ago, without being told adequate information about caring for my teeth and quite possibly some flawed dentists, I began feeling stupid when I had to figure out everything ON MY OWN too late on why I had being getting enamel wear and even a root canal(one time at a dentist they said I had no cavities. A week later I experienced pain and they said that they may have known about the root canal...). My family has been assuming that it was low calcium from drinking almond milk more than regular milk, but I began to realize the many acidic foods and drinks that I’ve been having for years. Almost daily I’ve been drinking sodas, fizzy soda juices like San Pellegrino’s Arianciata and Limonata that my family used to get, many fruit juices, ice creams along with them sometimes, coffee daily(I only found out they stain your teeth after looking up when I could begin drinking it after my wisdom teeth got removed), sometimes sucking but at a few other points chewing ice cubes, and eating candies...And...I sometimes brushed to early, but now I also feel that I should’ve just stuck to always brushing twice a day. Only after experiencing the results the hard way, I learn on my own what I should’ve known then what I know now only through desperation of trying save my teeth from further damage. I’m now either avoiding almost all these foods and drinks or minimizing some of them when being made to consume being inevitable. Still the next challenge is trying to improve my brushing methods, particularly with not being not to hard and not soft even with a soft bristled toothbrush. It’s not easy for me even up to this day, I’m always worried about some of the sticky plaque using the gum lines and crevices to bypass even some of the thorough brush strokes that I sometimes have to carefully run the pointed end of a flosspick to check if any plaque particles are still there. Adequate brushing is a lot harder than you think...
@Magnulus76
@Magnulus76 2 года назад
The carbonated beverages are probably the single biggest problem. Usually they have phosphoric acid and other flavor enhances and are very acidic: they work great for cleaning mineral deposits off bathtubs and toilets, after all. Almonds are only bad in excess, as they have alot of mineral-binding oxalates. You can have great teeth and bones without eating dairy, you just have to eat things like greens, cruciferous vegetables, tofu and beans, seaweeds, and blackstrap molasses. I eat alot of collard greens because they are mild flavored and pair very well with foods like beans or potatoes, they are a good substitute for spinach in any recipe.

Do I have to brush after eating (apple and cheese) i only flossed and washed my teeth with water. And now I am drinking green tea. Probably gonna drink water after the tea. But do I have to brush my teeth 🪥 after eating apples? Can’t i just drink water and floss.
@billmorrigan386
@billmorrigan386 5 месяцев назад
Definitely brush your teeth thoroughly with a fine bristle toothbrush if possible and when possible. You may also water floss before brushing. Apples are sugary and acidic. They are very bad for the teeth but you should eat a lot of them as they are superb for health. To be more precise, people should generally eat more fruit and vegetables rather than consuming a lot of pastries, meat and eggs. Tea and coffee are not actually dangerous to the teeth unless you add sugar. I drink a lot of coffee without sugar like ten times a day. I was able to switch to decaf because it's dangerous to overconsume caffeine, especially if you have heart problems. Bottom line: drinking water barely helps. Non-sugary minty bubble-gum is better. Water flossing is better than gums. But the most reliable way is to clean properly with a fine bristle toothbrush. I now try to brush after every snack but I often fail to do so. I guess I'm lazy but I'm trying not to snack too often on chips, cookies and stuff like that. I also try to clean more thoroughly. If you clean your tooth often, soft brushes are good. Flossing is usually meant just to clean spots that are hard to clean with a brush or/and get out some stuck food. Water flossing is also excellent for cleaning gums. Just an opinion.

A lot of those foods I do eat. I don't eat pickles though, but I do eat pickled jalapenos. I had no idea about fermentable carbs either. I eat a few of those carbs sometimes, but not a lot. I especially love soda to, but I don't drink as much of that anymore. Great video. I had no idea those foods were bad for my teeth.

Great video as usual! But why not release a video on what you can or should eat and drink? Unless you have already and I'm not finding it.

oh man, I was told to avoid acidic and spicy food 25 years ago because of my acid reflux, but I've just lived with it because as a woman of Mexican origin, I eat spicy and lemony/limey food every day. At least I'm not eating limes on a stick with salt, or cucumbers with lime, vinegar, and salt anymore. The enamel on my two front teeth was so worn down as a teen that my dentist thought I was bulimic, and I needed bonding, but that bonding is still up and kicking. My dental issues are now due grinding/clenching and TMJ, aggressive brushing and receding gum, and likely genetics.😭Got 5 gum grafts this year, now using Invisalign, and will likely get a surgery to fix my hiatal hernia that leads to reflux soon. Not sure I can give up putting lime juice and hot sauce in my food though.

Hello Whitney, hope all is well on your end. Let’s say you fasted for 3 days without food or water, and have dry mouth, would that be bad for your teeth because of dry mouth?

Is it bad to overbrush your teeth? Say 4 or 5 times a day after eating and snacks? Or can you brush some sessions throughout the day without toothpaste just to get the stuff off your teeth?
@TeethTalk

oftentimes not! here's a video of mine explaining more -- hope this helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ncmR6BR9Mlo.html

You don't need to completely cut off all of your fav food but yes, you do need to cut down on it and after you consume them do NOT forget to rinse your mouth or brush if you think the food is still stuck on your teeth

Cmon let's be honest, anything you eat can cause tooth decay. Any food can have an effect range from 1-100%. What I learned: "There is no escape" (vader voice)

I notice you say brush and floss after every meal (always wait 30mins). Would you recommend brushing and flossing many times a day? I thought it was bad to do either more than 2-3 times, and I'm sure I was told not to floss more than once a day? (Unless dancing 😅)

Another question, I've read mixed recommendations between brushing before or after breakfast. I've read that it's best to brush just after you wake up because of the accumulated bacteria overnight. So in one part of the video you said about making sure to properly brush after a snack or meal, does that mean I have to brush 4 times a day? One before breakfast, one afterwards (30 minutes later) one after lunch and one before bedtime? I'm looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Just brush 2 to 3 times a day and mostly just rinsing after eating like she says. Try to avoid the foods she’s talking about only in moderation.

I have a question. When they say "Wait 30 min after eating" before brushing your teeth. Does this mean that is the minimum time to wait? What is the maximum time to wait? Or should i always brush my teeth around 30 min after eating? Ty
@TeethTalk
@TeethTalk Год назад
Yes! I have a video coming out about this next month so stay tuned! But quick answer is because you want to give your saliva time to do it’s job - to neutralize the pH in your mouth and to naturally wash away food particles. It's recommended to wait between 30-60 mins! Hope this helps! And stay tuned for the video that goes over other things you can do while you're waiting to neutralize the pH in your mouth!
@portalpacific4500
@portalpacific4500 Год назад
@@TeethTalk Thanks for the reply! I'm less confused about the "how long to wait" vs "How long you shouldn't wait" - I know many people do it when they wake up and before they go to bed. But what is considered "optimal" or "Best case scenario"? Cheers

Not wine😭😂 Would you recommend soda water over regular soda? I rarely drink regular soda but I love soda water like La Croix. Just want to be sure the carbonation isn’t harming my teeth!
@TeethTalk
@TeethTalk 3 года назад
hey :) !!! GREAT question! so definitely soda water is BETTER but I've read there is still acid in most soda waters... so it's still not great but definitely better than regular soda because less sugar! I need to do more research on seltzer/carbonation related to teeth! Once I do - I'll definitely make a video about it :)
