This video will show you my thought processes and the fun I have - how to fix heating systems! I general most system problems come down to lack of heat and lack of flow. Follow me around as I solve the problem on this system here. This si the worst heating system I've seen (in a while!) I filmed this job over two days (One whole day could be seen as filling and venting...the system was MASSIVE!)

super useful video!! I have a question is it best to put a automatic air valve on both the incomming and outgoing side of the radiator system? Or is it ok just to have it on the outgoing side? cheers!

at around 25:43 in the video you show a 'temperature gauge' on the manifold. Do you know the name of that part as I want to get one for my heating system. Thanks

Did you add the new pump, on the flow pipe or return, and does it matter if you add the pump on flow or return feed?

I have been subscribed to you for some time now you have replied to my comments. I ask again that new pump you added is that on the flow or return. Also does it matter if the pump goes on flow or return?

Hey Jimmy! Nice to see Daddio out of retirement. Seriously, one of the best vids you've done for ages! Real life plumbing is a great learning opportunity for me and its great to watch over your virtual shoulder on a real life problem. Having just done a Baxi Heating controls course it would be great to see more on how the pump was added into the wiring centre, but appreciate why you don't or cannot really show it. Thank you for taking the time to film and put this together. 👏🏻

You must have saved them a hell of a lot of money trying to push the system up trying to heat a few radiators, well done 👍 I must admit I like low temperature flow systems ideally 50°C & less if all underfloor for sure far less, I'm not a plumber by trade, although soldering is easy many years as a Aerospace Defence Hardware Test Qualification Verification Consultant been in Electronics industries including boiler analysers repair service & calibration, I must admit planning a system layout is prime importance before installing, that system running 22mm pipe up & down must have lost so much heat especially if it was never lagged, I do feel they will be having a party when their next gas bill is far lower, good video & yes I've purchased parts etc from you guys before great quick service 👍

I must admit although it can be a pain in the backside, getting a shoddy system to work properly is one of my favourite things in plumbing. The customer thinks you're a magician. It takes time and for you to do what you did, you and your dad must have been motoring. It takes time to figure someone elses work out, and you're even thinking about it in the days before you start the job.

Great vid. admittedly I have skipped a bit. What I couldn't get was if this has a heat store or a conventional hot water system, which would maybe indicate to why they decided to plumb it in such a way (rightly or worngly). Also for a house and heat load of that size, surely 28mm pipe flow and return from the boiler would have been more appropriate (for the original installation).?

I once had a similar problem and I added a pump on the (flow or return) I mean which one didn't have a pump on it already so they wouldn't be fighting with one another. But one pump should be enough. I saved the customer €3,000 that they were quoted by another plumber to fix the problem and I €250 for pump and labour. 11 years later no pitching, air build up or overflowing water. I'm sure you would have had a better idea but it was my one of my first jobs.

Well done buddy at the end of the day I have visited systems where the pipes look like they 'grew there' and you know exactly where Im coming from. Trouble with the industry is people are just not properly being qualified, apprenticeship duration's are more and more reduced so they learn badly, cant trouble shoot - on the job. All at other poor peoples expenses. It took me 5 years to complete my apprenticeship back in the 70's (my old Dad did 7 years in the 40's) But I had bad experiences and lost heart and so got off the tools 35 years ago and went into the design office - no smelling of Boss White all day ha ha remember Boss White - no your to young.

A little bit of criticism can be productive. Don't let it destroy your passion though! People pay attention to different parts of the same job and overlook what YOU do correctly that they don't even understand. Mind your own pipe people! I've seen loads of mister perfects that don't amount to much at all. Those who do will keep you motivated most of the time because they know they're not perfect themselves.
