Fun fact, apparently that Pedro kid was testing the penetration of the Desert Eagle before the "stunt" What i think happened is that when he was testing how much the .50AE penetrates, he stacked a lot of books one after another and shot them. The force of the impact dissipates and transfers through the pages and books so it can happen that the bullet stops in the fist book. To someone not knowledgeable in terminal ballistics this would seem like only one thick book will stop the .50AE which is definitely not the case

There is an old episode of Miami Vice where they hide behind a palette full of fake money from enemy fire. Mythbusters fact checked whether they would be legit cover, and it was, even the firearms specialist they had on set confirmed it. But that was a FULL PALETTE, not just a single book. And they only used 9mm i think.

So when he tested it was it stopped by only one book? Did he hold it too tightly against his chest and that's why it penetrated? Man, that video was heavy. I'd never heard of him.
@kingofhearts3185

@@TransRoofKorean The impression I got was he stacked multiple books into a pile the same size as the encyclopedia. Problem is the covers and small amounts of space between them did a lot to slow the bullet down. It's been a while so I might be off, but that should be roughly what happened.
@LuLost
@LuLost 11 месяцев назад
@@TransRoofKorean No. The energy is dissipated much better when there are other objects behind what receives the energy. In this case, during the test, subsequent books dissipate energy so much that the first book has less energy on the same surface. More books, more mass to absorb energy, less energy per single sheet of paper. Later, in a fatal test, only one book had to absorb all the energy of the bullet, there was nowhere to spread it (there was no more mass of the books to share this energy), so the energy of the bullet defeated the strength of one book and unfortunately it also defeated this guy.

I mean, theres a reason that a paper test is used for sharpness, or you can gently rub your thumb sideways against the edge, if theres resistance odds are its sharp enough to cut. Take this from the man with years of experience and scars on his hands from a number of mistakes and mishandlings. They can be more dangerous than guns even if you follow safety rules. Only difference is guns have range.

I genuinely care about firearm safety. The son of an old coworker of mine lost his life to an accidental ND while actively safing one of their rifles to clean after a hunting trip. A few months later, I ran into him at a Wal-Mart and I had my oldest with me (he was about 2 at the time), and seeing that man start bawling up because my son made him think of his boy hit me in portion of my feels that I would never wish upon any parent. So please everyone reading the comments, truly be safe. Even when being safe, be extra safe and cautious.

I don’t understand. How can you have a ND with a rifle, after a hunting trip while “saving” it? You can break any one rule of firearms safety and it’s still dang hard to kill anyone by accident. You really have to break 2. (Unless you use expanded rules) there are 4. I like “Cotten Pickers” rules for gun safety. Treat every Cotten picking gun as loaded, never point a Cotten picking gun at…..

Single shot bolt action? Go ahead... P.S. He never said "saving it." He clearly said "safing it." Like, making the rifle "safe."

The story about Pedro hits hard. Many years ago, my brother put on a used (repeat, USED) ballistic vest, and told a 16 y/o kid to shoot him with an air rifle. I once handed a firearm to a friend who was ex military. While describing the grip mounted Lazer I said "if you squeeze..." and before I got to "...the back of the grip." He squeezed the trigger. Fortunately, he had it pointed in a safe direction, and no one was even scratched, although he did get a nice hole in the floor. THAT experience taught me several things all at once. 1. I needed to be way more careful, and have never since handed anyone a loaded gun, regardless of perceived level of training. 2. Military doesn't mean excellent gun training. 3. Gun shots inside are loud and terrifying. 4. I am way more concerned about making sure ALL the rules are followed and added 3 or 4 more personally.

You're exactly right. When it comes to the understanding your target rule, the best way I've heard it explained was by John Lovell of the Warrior Poet Society: "Be aware of your target, where it is, and what surrounds it: what's in front of it, what's behind it, to the left and to the right of it." I personally feel that this helps a bit to account for overpenetration

One time, some years ago, my cousin was showing me his new knife. It was one of those springloaded ones that retract in and out of the handle. I got curious and wondered to myself, "This won't even penetrate a cardboard box on extension. What would happen to my hand?" So I held the handle up to my other palm, thumbed the release, and was rewarded with what you might expect would happen when you poke a soft target with a sharp object. It only went a short way into my hand, just enough for it to dangle under its own weight for a second or two, and it didn't really bleed or even scar. He still gives my hell for that one from time to time though

If I remember the story correctly, a nearby department had purchased vests for all of their officers. Anyway I happened to be watching the evening news on TV when a reporter was doing a piece on these policemen getting their vests. So here's this reporter standing in what looked like a park or someplace, and he's wearing this vest. He then states that he's going to demonstrate it. The reporter turns to face stage-right. A hand appears from off screen holding a .22 revolver, and points it center-mass at the reporter. CRACK! This reporter windmills his arms and staggers backwards. Then, with a very surprised look on his face he exclaims "That Really HURT!"

Same boat, brother. Rest in peace Pedro, though. Don't think any of us are having a day that bad...

I was raised around guns, and the thing that needs to be said over and over these days especially, is what my dad and grandfather drilled into me while hunting and shooting; “guns are tools, not toys, so treat them accordingly”. It sticks with me to this day, and is as true now as it ever was. Again, it needs to be said more, especially on the gun channels where “goofy” seems to be the theme most days.

5:50 to be fair, that is pretty sharp for a gas station knife, he barely even poked himself. I've gotten ones that will barely even cut paper

Hi Brandon, i recently started watching your videos. I love how you use clips of people doing dumb stuff to teach about safety, but this video made me see that even though you said: "dark humor" you really care and don't just stick to the humorous side. I really apriciate that. I hope you can keep making content and can enjoy it.
