Every gun accident among friends, family, and acquaintances I have heard about, pretty much came down to violation of that one single rule. They all knew the gun was loaded, and simply stopped treating it like it was loaded for whatever reason. Thus, my rule, the gun is always loaded!!! Always.

The zipper on my coat once engaged the trigger of the shotgun I was about to set on a tarp, the hole in the ground was less than two inches from my foot, a few of things to consider. 1. I was a dumbass, it was my friends gun and I didn't check the safety or chamber when I pulled it out of the truck. 2. It was just one of three long guns I was carrying out of the truck at the same time, I was a dumbass. 3. Because my friend is soooooo obsessed with firearm safety, I assumed he wasn't a dumbass. 4. John Wayne was talking about me because I am a dumbass.

When you mention the guy shooting the RPG in the air as the fuel tanker shows up you mention if that thing comes down nose first it'll detonate... The rockets have a minimum arm distance, but do infact have a maximum arm distance where they will self detonate at approximately 900 meters. Insurgents would often figure out where 900 meters is and set up RPGS 900 meters from a ambush zone and use them as airburst rounds. Source: Gun Jesus's video on RPG 7

After watching, I remembered a funny case. When I was in the army, we were taken to a shooting exercise. The training program also included firing from a grenade launcher. Basic exercise shooting from the knee. So, it was summer and the shooting took place in the steppe and the dry grass and bushes were singed by a jet jet. Thanks to the strong wind, a small embarrassment turned into a big problem, as the fire spread very quickly and approached the temporary camp, and what is most terrible, the ammunition storage site. 1/3 of the guys ran to drag ammunition to a safer place, 1/3 ran to pull out a stuck fire truck, 1/3 (in which I was) tried to extinguish or at least delay the fire with helmets. So guys, when you use grenade launchers, watch not only what's in front of you, but also what's behind. With love from Russia.

TheRPG-7 arming range is a lottery, the value of 5m is exactly the minimal distance and typicaly it is something like 15m but sometimes you can hit something 20m awey and it can be not armed yet. Self destruct is more or less 4.5 seconds so in typical use you getting 900m-950m of flight distance, but here he was shoting the grenade verticaly so if that grenade exploded then it was propably 700-750m above them and it is kinda sus that they eneded the video just before we should hear the boom...

I was the officer for about 10 reenactors at a boy scout event where we were supposed to be educating the youngsters about history. We did a shooting demonstration wearing full accoutrements including a full ammo box and cap box. A full ammo box has a half pound of black powder in 50 little paper tubes (60 - 70 grains each) and the cap box holds up to 100 percussion caps. A grass fire had started from a camp file about 40 yards away. My guys decided they were heroes and ran toward the fire with me screaming "halt!" after them. In his book, he explained he could tell how far the shooter was when he saw an RPG blow up, mid-air, 20 meters past him. So, the guy who shot one straight up was still kinda dumb, but at least it shouldn't be dive-bombing back down onto someone's house.

 @Mr Bubbles Really? Did you im Amercia not just have had veterans day?? My Grandfather attestet to the heroics of the Russian soldiers when he fought there barely 18 years old as tank gunner in the Wehrmacht. Brave soldiers, and a tragedy of unbelieveable proportions. Unbelievable even more for you Amercians of course, who never had such experiences of total war as we Europeans had. And the Russians, which i include as "we Europeans", the most of all. I still get sick hearing that most Amercians truly believe the now 75 years old propaganda that the USA won WWII, and that the 1944 amphibious assault and western front defeated Nazi Germany, which is just laughable. WWII was won by Soviet Russia when the Mocow offensive failed at the gates of the city, and the Wehrmachts advance froze in the Winter of 1941. Staligrad 1942 sealed that. 1944 landing of US and allied forces was only done when it was clear the Soviets would otherwise have conqered all of continental Europe by 1945. And the Russians payed their victory by 10s of millions of dead. Estimates are 50 to 100 times more dead Soviets than Americans. Who fought mostly not for Communism, but as patriots for god and country and their people. I guess it is a good thing Americans never had to experience a modern war on their own homeland (besides civil war). And it is easy to go to war when you just drop bombs 1000s of miles away, insulated from all consequenses by an ocean. But to belittle veterans, who fought bravely (on both sides) in a battle far beyond most peoples imagination, is just stupid and dehumanizing. Ignorance is no excuse. Arrogance out of narcicism, or claimimg "exeptionalism" neither. Just pray your country will never have to put your soldiers into any war that is even remotely resembling anything that soldiers had to live through and live with on the eastern front.

A kid I grew up with used to have wild parties on the 4th of July here in Northwest Pennsylvania. Among the thousands and thousands of dollars worth of fireworks, was a Cannon similar to the one you showed in the video, but much bigger. They'd fire off 1in. steel ball bearings at Watermelons, Empty kegs, folding chairs, old kitchen appliances etc etc pretty much whatever him and the guests could get their hands on. After firing off the cannon several dozen times and destroying various items. They decided that they wanted to add more powder to see exactly how much damage this thing could do. Well, them being as drunk as they were, they started throwing all caution to the wind and stopped using the proper amount of fuse to give them time to get clear. In fact they stood within just 5-6 feet of the thing while it was firing. Well, in doing this, ( and the insane amount of times they had already fired it and deciding to add even more black powder) the cannons right side exploded sending shrapnel directly into the leg of one of guests that was standing less than 5 feet away an blew a gigantic hole into big leg and calf. A few other people were hit too but this dudes leg took the brunt of it. Thankfully a few of the guests were firefighters/EMTs and Police Officers because they got dudes leg strapped up with a tourniquet real quick and had Life Flight there withing 35 minutes. We live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, or what I call BFE (Bum-Fuck Egypt) it's literally 30 minutes in any direction to a Walmart and 2 hours from any major city with a serious hospital. So it was very impressive those men were able to save this dudes leg.

That guy with the cannon is murphy's law of gun powder. I had something similar happen as a stupid teenager. I found a 1912 book on making your own 'pyrotechnics' and got pretty good at it. One day I was working with what amounted to a final product of black powder mixed with iron flake and a colorant. I wanted to test the color and only had about 1/4" of the stuff in a small 'dixie' cup. I took the stuff out to the driveway, and scooped out only a few grams of the mix about the size of a BB onto a small brick. Thinking I was being "safe" I put the open dixie-cup of remaining material more than 10' away under the edge of the garage roof. The whole point of adding metal flake to pyrotechnics is to create the 'popping spark' type effects you get out of things like sparklers and cones. The point of my test was to gauge the mixture in very small quantities. The point of putting the dixie cup way back under the garage roof was that I knew the sparks would fly up above the sample sometimes to considerable height and I didn't want any to fall 'down' into the cup. I actually thought this as I moved it under the 'edge of the roof'. I lit the small sample, it burned perfectly! I had the mix just about right. I had about a 1 second burn just the right speed, just the right color with really nices sparks. About 1 or 2 seconds after the burn finished up, it gave one last pop shooting out a single molten metal spark that I immediately understood was going straight for the little open dixie cup under the edge of the garage roof 10' away. I had to clean up quite a dark smokey spot under the roof edge before dad came home. But it was a pretty light show!

The black powder cannon reminds me of a fourth of July gathering we had when I was a teenager. We thought about the risks and believed we took appropriate precautions. Someone brought a 1000 piece brick of firecrackers. A group of us wanted to set them off a little here, little there. We peeled a few off at a time and made sure we were at least 30 feet away from the lawn chair the rest of the strip was laid on. Somehow, a spark made it the full 30 feet across the yard and set off the whole strip. That used to be a nice lawn chair...

Correct, the rocket automatically detonates after a few seconds, traveing roughly 900 meters. Engaging targets from "Behind friendlies" actually is done. The training they are doing is actually based on a type of advance to contact, often in confined spaces, where the two will trade places to reload. in open space like this it would be normally a 3 man team, with the first guy having a shield and advancing, and 2nd and 3ed changing places during the advance to fire OVER the shield while the balistic shield user kneels. So they are training actual parts of what they are supposed to do... just.. badly, and with no fire discipline... but... hey. You get what you pay for, right?

under a 5 second delay, it could have also been a hangfire. @OGPatriot03
@OGPatriot03 2 года назад
No joke, I had this happen to one of my family members with a 45-70 lever action. Fortunately the weapon was pointed downrange and went off (giving the user a fright) just before I walked over when I then would've ejected the cartridge to inspect. I definitely learned something that day which is that hangfires are real and can happen with regular store bought ammo. (Yes 45-70 Govt is more prone to this kind of misfire than most cartridges but it's still possible in any cartridge, it's one of the rare times a gun can legitimately "fire itself" in a way that could totally catch someone off guard if they're ignorant)

As you run through the courtyard towards the mansion full of drug people you've come to arrest, you can't help but breathe in some of the hash smoke. On the black powder embers landing in a powder bin, this was a major concern in age of sail warships and why the powder was always stored in a differnt room to the cannons themseves but sometimes admirals or captains would leave a barrel or two of powder in the room with the cannons in order to get faster reloads(bad idea) and this did sometimes cause ships to blow up or at least catch fire when embers hit the barrel
@danielsprouls9458
@danielsprouls9458 2 года назад
Naval ships used powder bags to move powder to the guns. They were filled in the magazine and that was the only place with open powder barrels. The powder bags were moved to the guns by ships boys/powder monkeys. The charges were carried in a leather bucket and only brought out a reload at a time. There was no light in the magazine, just a candle outside shining through a glass window. No metal was allowed and every one wore felt slippers. A lot of people died learning those lessons.

13:30 Many rockets and other HE ordnance have a range at which they self-detonate, in order to prevent a rocket from running out of fuel and hitting somewhere unexpected. Even smaller bullets filled with HE also have this limitation imposed for safety. Not sure if that applies here. And Forgotten Weapons says that there is actually no minimum fuze on some RPG-7 rockets (like that meme where he blows up an RPG you showed a while back).

Some have, some don't - in fact that's what saved a "legitimate businessman" in the old country, when someone tried to pop him with one - his driver saw the assassin set up and (no pun intended) gunned it hoping for the best. On the flip side (from doing my conscripted service in the same old country) - I still have the scars from another RPG that exploded 10 yards downrange (though I fared better than the guy that actually fired it)

On the Russian episode with a handgun: in Russia, civilians can possess only "traumatic / less lethal" handguns, i.e. the ones shooting soft rubber bullets only. And the quality of such ammo is usually extremely poor. So it could be both a light strike, or a hangfire, or any other weird malfunction.
