Some K-Dramas from 2024 have left viewers disappointed and even angry! From Goodbye Earth to Chicken Nugget and Impossible Heir, there's a lot to unpack here!
I’m sorry did anyone actually think Chicken Nugget would be an Oscar worthy drama after we all saw the trailer? 😭😭 I haven’t watched it but my expectations were always “it’s going to be one of those ridiculously over the top shows that you just have to turn your brain off to enjoy” Anyways I clicked on this thinking Yoo Ah In was back in dramas again. 😭
Agreed, I knew going into it, it would be a weird one. And that is exactly what it was. Little 30 minute episodes of weirdness. That in the end I actually did not regret watching.
The only thing wrong with The Impossible Heir was the lead actress. She was so dull which made the story line boring from the beginning. From episode 6 it was a whole lot better though shame this hype wasn't from the beginning too
I’m not even watching queen of tears cause I can’t stand the cast or plot. Park jiwon is rly pretty but that’s not enough to make me watch it and I hate the male lead
My thoughts exactly. I’m surprised KYJ agreed to this one. A terrible follow up to My Demon. I wonder if she did this as favor to someone or if she’s hurting for cash. Hopefully, this show isn’t a career killer because she’s a great actress.
@dougeeemcfly1 exactly you go from My demon to chicken nuggets... I suspect it's for money since she supports her whole family because the story line is stupid.
Queen of tears's scriptwriting is so damn messy and predictable af, instead of chosing the "how miscarriage could affect the mother's psychologically and her marriage " route, they chose the mediocore "terminally ill" route to rekindle their romance again. It makes the male protagonist's love seemed insincere to begin with. The only thing that keep the audiences going is Kim Jiwon's acting, her chemistry with the male lead and Hong Hae In's fashion choice (also her walk)
Queen of Tears was pretty good, until the last 3 episodes, then it just became a mess, and it felt like they changed directors or something, with the way the tone of those last episodes changed. Plus it felt like they were trying to add every single scene shot, into the final episode, When much of it should have been left on the cutting room floor.
this year's best drama so far are 1.queen of tears 2.marry my husband 3.flex x cop 4.lovely runner edit: this numbering is not based on popularity, i just wrote them systematically
It’s not cuz you’re old We are all in the same boat , it’s hard to find a good plot with nice production and acting Sometimes the plot is good and everything else is uhh , and vise verse
Same, Idk if I got pickier with time but more often than not I find the romance in kdramas kinda forced or cringe, sometimes the main couple has no chemistry whatsoever but both actors are gorgeous so the public loves them, I just wish the producers could accompany their stunning looks with good acting and an interesting script.
This year The Atypical Family is going great so far. It feels fresh and even the chemistry is good. Cast is great with Jang Ki Young, Chu Won Hee, Ga Doo Shim and Claudia Kim. Child actors are also great. Give it a try. As for a funny and cheerful drama, Lovely Runner is good. It has got visuals and story is also okay. I did not like Doctor Slump, QOT & Impossible heir from this year.
You can try dramas like the good bad mother , it's okay not to be okay and twinkling watermelon. The acting is top notch and they have a great storyline
@@Gattberserk it only got extended because of the fiance's arrival, and many of the viewers were basing the story and plot from the manhwa and not the original source which is the light novel one part many hates was when Ji Won easily doubted Ji Hyuk despite himself showing his disinterest towards his fiance
Parasyte: The Grey was very successful globally. By the end of its second week the series was in top 10 in 84 countries and at number one in 34 countries. Netflix publicly declared the series a success.
Unpopular opinion ig …but Queen of tears wasn’t that good either …sure the chemistry between the actors was really nice and I LOVED the cast but the story was not really nice and seemed SOOOOO dragged omg …like just end it already 🙄
Besides that, it was so similar to other romance kdrama that it didn't have anything new to offer and all kdrama cliché was repited, honestly 2024 kdramas wasn't any thing special
@@user-ob2pd5rd7g sooo true I have been disappointed by everything I have been watching these days …but latest I watched Exhuma and lovely runner so they have revived me 🙏
i liked chicken nugget. it was obviously supposed to be nonsensical and unserious, and it was a fun and relaxed watch. even with all of this, i stilled bawled my eyes out in episode 8 lol
Captivating the King - Another "historic" drama with nothing new. Same poisonings. Same minister machinations. Same dumb oblivious protagonists. Same omnipotent bad guys. Same convenient random encounters. Same misunderstandings. Same, same, same. Not sure why it is rated so high on IMDB. It was like I was watching a rerun.
And let's not forget the absolutely terrible acting of the FL and the fact that we were expected to believe she was a woman passing as a man, although she wore lip gloss and full make up!
Goodbye Eart. I was lost from the start and wasn't able to make myself keep watching it. Felt like I was trying to keep up with a story where half the pages were missing. Really bad.
I so agree with you. It was unwatchable. Too many characters and no real progression. I am still struggling to finish it but it's easily the worst K-drama I've seen.
the story was bad (too cliche). however the production was top notch. tthe cast, he visuals, the cinematography, THE OST!!!! they were the reasons i stayed. if it had a pplot that wasn't soo all over the place QoT would\ve been the best drama ever
@@Andrea-jg1df Celebrity was okay okay as for FL and story. But the ML was good. Maybe because I've liked his acting since The Heirs. Overall I liked the drama.
I agree. It wasn't the best drama in the world, but it had its own quirks and decent. Way surperior to the Impossible Heir that was running at the same time.
Throughout history we have or should have learned that you just can not please everyone. Many loved these dramas many didn't WHO CARES! ITS OUR CHOICE TO LIKE WHAT WE LIKE / DISLIKE RIGHT
@@theresaalison1621i personally think it was not the acting it's just the story in itself ! It's only the first 2 ep but it feels like 5th, it's just feels too long, like it's dragging. I thouth the plot was the apocalypse but we do not see it, the countdown was a great idea but again too long. It's the apocalypse is the sub plot and the "fight the criminal" THE plot. ??? What is that ? It's not illogical that there's a rise in criminality when it's doomed either way but generally it's after a catastrophe that it's here as a form of "i'm the leader of the survivor, i decide of the distribution of necessities" etc but we have all of this before and it's kind of (again) dragging the story ! Idk what's going on in the drama as I stopped watching it after the 2nd ep I think, but that's where i got bored and disappointed :(... What are your thought?
@@lyndaarmy625 Totally agree. You mentioned several times how laborious it was to watch. Exactly! Yes, I want to be invested in the characters and story, but that is not possible when the plot is all over the place.
When will people learn that not liking something does NOT make it badly written or just bad in general? Not every show is made for you, the writers don't write this just so you will like it. What annoys me about people whining about Chicken Nugget, they already whine and whine and whine about kdrama not being creative anymore, then something breaks the mold and they still whine. No wonder most companies don't want to take creative risks anymore and just stick to boring romance tropes from the last decade.
‘The Impossible Heir’ and ‘Wedding Impossible’ should not be on this list. The story of Impossible Heir was great, but the role itself or bad acting of the female lead was disappointing.
Yeah wedding impossible was good. It was just a simple story. Chemistry was good too. It did not create much drama which made people who love dramatic things disappointed. As for Impossible heir, I did not like the FL and even the story made no sense to me. Although I loved the male leads and second female lead.
I actually liked Goodbye Earth, because unlike many survival/apocalyptic shows(including western), that usually focus on this "special group of people" who are trying to save the Earth which most of the time is not realistic at all... in this drama it follows more on how more ordinary people would want to spend/try to survive the last days on earth... However I understand the backlash about being too confusing because I also felt that following the plots/stories was a bit chaotic and moody so I get it that it wasn't going to be everyone's cup of tea
I loved it and being a Yo Ah In fan, I wanted to hate it. I planned on not watching it but curiosity got the best of me. I was bawling and crying by the end. I think it would have been even better if they hadn’t chopped his parts down.
A bit disappointed in your description of the young Gay guy he played a great part and to call someone queer is no longer acceptable in today's society
People love queen of tears but for the first time ever I have to Kim Soo hyun character was so cringey. Everybody was like robots. I don't know why people find it so entertaining.
Chicken Nugget: You need to embrace the "craziness" and just go along with the ride. I think the show was okay up until the last few episodes when things getting a bit "too crazy" LOL. The Parasyte was great. I wish the main character and her Parasyte can actually talk to each other like how they did it in the anime/manga, the ending was great, and the tease for season 2 was awesome! And finally Goodbye Earth: I haven't finished it yet, but so far the story feels a bit all over the place, so it's really hard for the viewers to care about the main characters.
I have high expectations from Wedding Impossible but on coming on last few episodes I felt really disappointed. I only complete the drama because of special cemo otherwise it was so painful to watch . I love the Na ah jeong and Lee Ji han couple but they make their love story plot so unhinged. I thought that I would also see the friendship of Ah jeong and do Hawn but they make plot so bad like mean they portray that we don't care if someone is hurting we would just care about our love. In that drama Do Hawn clearly needs help but he was all left alone. Nobody was in his side neither brother nor his best friend. I thought I would see the deep friendship between them but left disappointed. It could be very good drama it had alot of potential
honestly na ah jeong kept her friendship with dohan well, she didnt reveal his secret even to the person she loved she didnt herself tell him that their marriage was fake. Mind you it was dohan who felt like for the good of the people around him he should tell about his marriage to everyone, he was hurting the people who cared about him and lets be honest it was selfish of him to marry na ah jeong to hide his secret. Also jihan was a great brother he cared about his brother very much so much that he was doing everything he could to let his brother have the company(though he didnt want it yeah but anyway) but dohan always pushed him away and left him alone.. so saying that no one was with dohan was wrong lee jihan even got angry at dohans ex and their stepsiblings when they were threatening to let dohans secret. The drama was great tbh shouldve received more recognition
@@angelichae she didn't keep her friendship well with dohan. Yes she keep the secret but she agreed to marry dohan cuz she has her own grudge. She agreed to it in instant without thinking will be outcome. The fact Dohan ask Ah jeong help and she only know his secret that means their friendship was more deep than just keeping secrets. If you are going through something you need your close one help. Yes maybe they can't fully help that you have do it yourself but you need someone by your side. And those someone should be by your side if if person push them away. And about Ji han yes he got angry at his ex and take blame on him but that's all. I didn't see any plot of their relationship ship progressing. His plot from wanting to owning the company jump be with Ah jeong. This drama could be so much better if so good plot of their friendship and dohan and jihan relationship. This drama was nothing just typical drama but just the difference was no plot makes any sense
@@ladyyoonjin i think it potrayed real life, she didnt realise but the marriage was going to do no good to her and though yes she was a friend but i think there are some boundaries you need to respect, she even helped him in their school days bro i dont think its right to blame, na ah jeomg couldve done more but didnt dohan felt way better after coming out anyway? he just wanted to proceed with the marriage to hide it from his grandfather but he already knew. Lastly idk how many more sacrifices you wanted from the leads for dohan. Dohan pushed his brother and called me a burdern when he already felt so bad thinking he was the reason his mom was killed but dohan made him felt lonely at times shouldnt we have expected something from him too?
The impossible heir was really promising in the first episodes and I was actually really invested in it but as soon as Ana HyeWon appeared i lost all my interest, every time she appeared in the screen I would get annoyed.I been wanting to start watching it again but as soon as she appeared I turn it off again.
Parasyte the Grey was a good drama. There's a reason why it wasn't like the original Manga, it's because it's not the original Parasyte it's a spin off called Parasyte the Grey
I was so disappointed in chicken nugget got bored in first 10 seconds. 😢 Will go back one day. The best 2024 kdrama "Killer parodox" has been my comfort show ever since 😊
I think I'd have enjoyed chicken nugget if I was 8-10, the plot is good for that age group. Because adult me, really thought the plot was nonsense but the ending was a bit emotional tho.
Can you give review on Love Song for illusion? The most interesting series I have watched. So interesting and unpredictable. Is not known because the actors are very young and just started
While admittedly Goodbye Earth was a bit hard to follow, I found it the most memorable show so far this year. Focusing on the emotions and choices the characters had to make while facing impending doom, in my opinion, was what made the drama compelling. I don't understand why any of Yoo Ahn In's parts were edited because he appeared in many scenes and his presence was felt. The portrayals of the characters, including the children were incredibly heartfelt.
For me Parasite: The Grey is really good, kinda remind me of "The Invasion" and the classic "Invasion of the Body Snatchers". But Moving, My Demon, and Vigilante are worth watching. "All of Us Are Dead" season 2 can't wait.
Very unpopular opinion: couldn’t move past 3rd episode of Queen of Tears. I seriously don’t understand the hype around it. It was actually unwatchable & unnecessarily stressful.
Lee Junyoung deserves better, he is one of the best actors of this new generation, doesn't get enough attention, completely underrated for his level and on top of that they give him crap projects ..
Am i the only one that enjoyed goodbye earth? I love the kdramas that have a group of main characters to give that family homely feel to the drama and it feels like you are part of their group/family. I also liked that they were just trying to live untill the end. The time jumps are better than having useless filler and at least they made it clear which scenes were flashbacks which a lot of kdramas fail to do. So what if the asteroid didnt hit? If you were watching it for that then you should have just watched a fake video of the dinosaur apocolypse lol!
I've only seen a few of these since all my content comes from NetFlix. I always watch Dramas in Korean with English subtitles, Parasyte The Grey's alien dialogue could have come from any late 1950's black and white American alien invasion movie, it was so antiquated it actually became amusing.
Unpopular opinion: Queen of tears was mediocre at best. There was no chemistry between the leads. Some people will come for my throat because they wanna believe so badly that there is something going on between the leads. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I will just let people be delulu!
Thank you, I thought the same thing about that series. I was sad I wasted that much time watching it. At most I gave it a 4.5 outta 10. The hype is too hyped, there's nothing interesting about it, whatsoever.
Oh thank you I've had bad comments because I have said the same, but like you I don't really care it wasn't worth the hype, all this promotion before and after is outrageous but I suppose their way of getting there money back FL was so stiff throughout, someone off the street would have played the part better.
The thing is they are both good actors and they portrait the chemistry well but off screen there was awkwardness between them which wasn't there with their other co-stars.
I agree. And the female lead in Queen of tears was so lame, shallow... I really couldn't see that love or chemistry between the main couple. All other actors were much better than the female lead, though.
I loved The Impossible Heir! True she wasn’t all that amazing, but not bad enough to ruin the show for me. The plot was different, keeping me interested.
Actually it would've been much better if she wasn't involved at all. Just a side character instead of a plot of love triangle. Writers need to stop with love triangle plot. Nobody likes it.
If SK stopped making 100+ series in a year, the there wouldn’t be so many repetitive premises and heavy reliance on tropes. There’s no way you can expect 20 fresh and innovative shows, let alone 100, every single year. I can’t imagine how long this sort of process can continue. 17M for a show that’s over in 2 months? Thats insane.
The Impossible Heir started off all over the place but got so much better after episode 6. I really enjoyed it :). Also enjoyed Parasyte the Grey and Chicken Nugget definitely wasn’t the worst show I’ve ever watched. My favourite show so far this year is Flex X Cop
To be fair I haven't watched the chicken nugget because I thought it looked weird and the promo didn't really entice me to watch, the others I hadn't heard much about but I will probably avoid one or two anyway!!
Even bad story and direction are sometimes overshadowed by actor amazing acting and chemistry but i couldn't see that with hong su zu. Like you can compare chli hee Jin the girl playing hee joo with the FL. Even if the FL is being savage with her only hee joo is looking good.
Why is Parasyte here? This was supposed to be an extension and Korean link to the anime, which was set in Japan. Of course, it's not supposed to be identical to the anime.
Impossible Heir: had so much potential with the cast and how ep 1 began. But then it all felt off on ep 2. These are where it went wrong: 1. Plot line: Forget the storyline. It's cliche but there have been cliche storylines that have become hits. But the plot in this one was so confusing. In ha had no reason to act the way he did. the only reason he acted the way he did was so that there was plot development. The phone that was miraculously evidence and recording somehow and the main character searches for it through his subconscious while he was intoxicated with drugs was the highlight of how poorly the drama was written. Overall, the plot seemed really rushed and it was a writer's fever dream. Everything towards the end seemed rushed. 2. Character development: Every character was so one-dimensional. There was no development apart from the main character from ep 1 (being lost to then finding a friend). Apart from their change from student to getting a high-position job, nothing about the character's personality changed. 3. The Acting: All three main leads were poor. They have so much potential in acting (I don't know if it's because the characters are supposed to be one dimensional or what not), but they were absolutely terrible for the amount of talent they had. Honestly, the younger sister was the star of the show. She had some character development and her acting was most convincing out of the four. Goodbye Earth: Was a Netflix Korean apocolypse drama. What could go wrong? Everything 1. The hype: The hype killed it. It had so much expectation. Was it terrible? No. Had a decent storyline. Acting was good. But the hype around the show even before its release was what killed it. The promotion made it sound like there was going to be major conflict before the extinction event. Instead we find people just living their last moments trying to make end's meet in their terms. 2. The plot progresssion: So slow. Like snail slow. And repetitive as well. Chicken Nugget: No expectation and watched the first episode and never looked back since. Out of all of them, I'm probably most disappointed in impossible heir because all three were rising actors / actresses (This was Hong's first major role). The storeyline although cliche was something to look toward to. We all expected two boys who became brothers and then there was a girl and all three try to take down the conglomerate and try to take control. Instead we got a mess that started progressing at the start of episode 2.
Parasyte was great. I attended to watch 1 episode a day but after this first episode I binged all the episodes. However, agree with the other picks. Wedding Impossible had a great first episode but after that it went downhill quick. ML’s character was annoying
IH lost me when LJW suddenly woke up in the murder room, nah. Bequeathed had SO much potential but the writers got lazy too bad. I'm on episode 3 of SFK and I'm enjoying it.
