The fact is, this film was made with funding from the company Golden State Foods. In a massive coincidence, that company is a Food Distributor with close ties to McDonalds. So, yes, in a lot of ways, this is a Big commercial. Stewert Raffill was brought on as the Director, they had a full crew hired already. He asked them where the script was, and the told him they didn't have one, he'd have to write it. He literally had to do prep work for the movie during the week, and write the script on the weekends. The kid actually was handicapped, by the way. Which explains why they don't cure his legs.

Saw a kid hitching a Marty McFly ride on the bumper of someone's car, down a street, a couple years ago. We were on a beer run to the convenient store where the car pulled in. Car driver gunned it through the parking lot, pulled up to a gas pump, and slammed on the brakes. Kid on skateboard lost grip of bumper for a few seconds but didn't stop in time before slamming into the back of the car. Hard. Body and face hitting the trunk and rear window. His skateboard continued on at super speed, under the car and on through parking lot. Watched the whole thing. I laughed so hard. Hadn't laughed that hard in a long time.

Love the reaction! You guys have to look up the alternate original scene where Eric dies. Instead of the explosion, one of the cops accidentally shoots him in the back (squib and everything). It only made it to the Japanese VHS release, but you can find it on RU-vid I believe. The explosion killing him was added in post production, hence the weird compositing.

From what I remember in ET...the candy was initially supposed to be M&M's but the Mars Company didn't give Speilberg the rights to use the candy in the movie so they struck a deal with the Hershey Company to use Reese Pieces which at the time weren't super popular.

I remember watching that when it was new and thinking what the hell did these guys take before they started planning this movie out. And how did they manage to get all the way through production without it wearing off. Then I remembered it was the 80s... and that ALF was a primetime show on one of the big 3 networks and just moved on at that point. Maybe you could do Time Bandits after the Halloween movies just to see how really weird it can get.

They were thinking that they could throw together a kids' movie to fundraise for multiple charities at once, and do it by capitalizing on the two biggest things in pop culture at the time: McDonald's and E.T. It's really emblematic of the problems with children's content of the time (and some might argue, current content): making it not for the joy of creating and viewing, but for some other "nobler" purpose.

This is my personal favorite So Bad Its Good movie, so many layers, so much insanity. The stumbling aliens, the product placement, the weird way the neighbor girl says her lines, the whistling, the cliff scene, the mom accusing the wheelchair bound child of redecorating the house, the deleted scene where Eric is shot to death by a cop. Its a masterpiece.

I loved these movies back in the day. My first time going to the theater was at 6 yrs old to see Super Girl. I remembered it as a super awesome movie. Then I rented it to relive a bit of my youth. Jesus was it awful 😂 🤣, but a good awful. I was so pumped to see it as a 6 year old, we owe our parents so much for the horrible shit we put them through. 🤣

The pink Cadillac the aliens ride in, is the same pink Cadillac from Mannequin 2: On The Move, another Stewart Raffill movie. Also, there was no script for Mac and Me when they begin filming. And McDonald’s did not fund this movie, but their meat supplier did. And the actor who plays Eric uses a wheelchair and did that hill stunt himself. The stories surrounding this movie are as crazy as (if not crazier than) the movie itself.

For whatever reasons, I have NEVER seen E.T. in my life, not once, but I've seen Mac & Me about a million times! I was born in 1982, so I guess I was too young to see it when it was around a lot, but Mac & Me, which came out a couple of years later, was *constantly* on TV when I was like 6-7 years old, and I would watch it every single time, lol. It's so bad, I'm ashame... PS: When you ask if the boy was going to fly like that scene in ET, I was like "Oh yeah, he is going to 'flying', just not in the sense you're thinking!". When this movie first came out on VHS (yup, I'm old) I hung around a video store for HOURS waiting for a copy to come back for me to rent because my then-fiancee wanted to see it...boy, were we sorry later!

The reason the alien is called Mac is because of the Big Mac. This movie is so hilarious because it was so bad. I remember everyone poked fun at the scene when he went off the cliff and into the water. Also the part when the store exploded. The original take was that the kid was shot. But, they took that out because it was violent for the kids to see.

If you guys watch Rick and Morty then you would recognize that Jerry brings up the fact that he brought Beth to an outdoor concert of the music of Alan Silvestri and finally found the courage to kiss her. This is during the episode where Beth isn't sure whether she's a replicant or not and Jerry talks her down off the edge. One of Jerry's few better moments they end up getting back together after their brief separation so you can thank Alan for that.

I'm guessing Jason recognized the scene in which the kid falls in the lake, because that is the scene Paul Rudd always showed on the Conan O'Brien show whenever he came to promote a movie.
