Kotal was my favorite new character in MK X. I loved his design and his connection to Mayan/Aztec culture. It was a perfect fit for something like Outworld i agree that it did suck that he just became a joke. hell, he still is a bit of a joke in the new MK. they just mention him losing to Raiden haha
i understand the revenant part for sindel. making her evil there, it did it to everyone. but after the resurrection. the simple fact that she isnt under shao khan’s influence and she isnt bewitched, but just simply pure evil, makes me absolutely infuriated.

The thing is, even her revenant self was less evil than her "true" self in 11, because at least in X, she was HAPPY to be with her DAUGHTER again! And considering that her story in 9 was relatively unchanged from the original, that means that they SPECIFICALLY changed her for 11, making the change even worse because it was done last minute
Sindel being made a pure villain is the biggest worst moment in Mortal Kombat history it's so disrespectful and they continuing with this incarnation of her.
I’ll personally never agree with this sentiment. I’ve been with MK since back in the Midway early 3D era. Sindel was never a character I cared about. She was rather dull with a pretty generic heroic sacrifice background. Personally I had enough of those. When she was announced a villain with a deeper connection to Shao Kahn, I grew to really like her attitude and relationship with him. It was a bit more interesting, at least for me.

One of the things that made her cool was that she looked evil but actually turned out to be good and without her sacrifice, Shao Kahn would have right away taken Earth. 11's version just makes her another generic power hungry villain and once again use Quan Chi as a scapegoat. I know its just an opinion to like the new Sindel but I'm sorry, its an insult to her character. Not just because it makes her the complete opposite of what she's supposed to be, but also completely contradicts everything about her including mk9 which is the start of the "new timeline." Also imagine that Sindel was one of your favorite characters before and everything you liked about her character gets completely changed for literally no reason other than her looks. Its horrible and they should never do this version again or treat another character like this either, especially if its someone really important to the story.

It's such a disrespect to the fans who grew up loving the character and liking her story and it's a disrespect to the character herself I'm not a big Sindel fan but I like what she represented she was a good character there is nothing so jolly about this retcon of her being evil it's tasteless and I didn't like how they rub it in our faces about her being evil I'll never forgive NetherRealm for this they really must've thought Sindel had no fans or think nobody cared about her story change and they really thought wrong.

She only gets her shit bcoz characters are changed to give a shit about her(shao Kahn never gave a shit about her at all in mk9 and even in mk3 for majority and now all of a sudden you care after how much you’ve seen her as a liability and obstacle for your plans of evil, Sheeva is literally just a stupid fucking fangirl, all of a sudden despite the fact that she never any attempt to give 2 shots about her at all in the new timeline. Only really gets wins bcoz of plot convenience (like how all the mainline edenians can somehow take on elder gods and kahns, sindel beating kung lao despite literally beating her murderer along with Shang 2 v 1, against geras who is essentially a timelord but debatable). She ain’t even that bloody for a villain in aftermath lmao. All the punishment is essentially offscreen and she skins just 2 shokan as far most violence goes. Sindel js essentially just forced plot convenience that is just there to make the story that long when she was never needed due bs needs of other characters (with the edition of making characters dumb just for the sake of her looking ‘good’ and ruining characters and making their plot lines convuluted)

Shao Kahn getting low-diff'd by Kitana after becoming a simp for Kronika for the totality of vanilla-MK11 was a lot worse, honestly. It's softened by the fact that Aftermath gives him a ton of wins and treats him as unstoppable for a while, but the fact that the most important villain in the franchise got disrespected like that in the first place is still crazy.

Those “wins” are only if you pick as him. It’s not confirmed as you can pick anyone to beat the character who he is opposing. That’s essentially saying he “wins” in headcanon and none of his wins have been confirmed in aftermath or if it’s sindel’s (not like it would do much damage to her since she is plot armored to hell in the NRS timeline but for shao, it’s fucked since he has no wins). Aftermath shao as of confirmed wins is pretty much a kotal, who got shitted on by everyone and a liu kang (who FGLK purposely made him lose to so he can execute the plan against Shang tsung and if he can beat him now, then why tf did he not do it sooner in the mk2 section of mk9? They can’t even do powerscaling right on the villains side lmao). Aftermath just does as much as damage to his character in base story, the shared chapter system literally disguises to make it feel he is getting respected
No matter what people say, Zombie Liu Kang with the chains and stuff was amazing! The story and atmosphere around Liu Kang's death was legendary. And at least it was consistent with the story.. unlike a certain edenian queen turned Thirsty, evil monster.

The worst part about sindel’s reasoning for her change is that she doesn’t even look evil in mk11. Her eyes don’t even glow. I don’t even think her phantom is in a cutscene.
Tbh even her MK3 design was more evil than her MK11 design I always thought MK3 Sindel was a villain just by her own design as a kid, until I learned English and read her story I'd even say that it was one of the most badass designs of her if not the most badass

If she was just good then I would of then bored of her character very fast. I mean yeah, just have her under an unbreakable spell; that would of made everyone happen but evil mom was fine for me... by far not the worst think NRS has done.

One of my most hated moments was from the Sindel massacre. Every character she does kill for the most part gets a pretty brutal death, but if you watch, sub-zero (cyber) literally just gets an uppercut and dies. not a hyper intense mega uppercut, just a regular uppercut kills him, meanwhile jax gets a heel in the neck, jade gets disembowled, smoke gets his neck snapped, etc.
Actually, the section on MK3's roster isn't correct. John Tobias made a thread a few years ago explaining the decision to cut so many characters, and it literally came down to popularity. They built a counter into the arcade releases of MK1 and 2 that showed how often each character was picked, and that directly influenced cutting characters like Baraka, Sonya, Cage, and Scorpion. Mind you, this was based off data they got from the machines they could actually get to, so pretty much limited to the Chicagoland area. AKA: Chicago killed Scorpion
@@ultraboombean It's been a minute since I wrote this comment, and upon further reflection there might be another, less pretty reason for the ninjas being cut, that being Midway's falling out with several actors from the first two games over contract disputes. Daniel Pesina played Johnny and the ninjas, and they're all cut in 3 vanilla save Unmasked Sub Zero, who's played by John Turk. The ninjas would be recast in UMK3, but Johnny would only be recast in MK Trilogy. Could've been a combination of popularity + losing actors + tight production schedules
Also Tanya's look was changed in the 3d era; after MK4/Gold, because she wasn't evil-looking enough. I didn't like her other appearances until MKX and even than they went with pure white eyes to make her look more evil. Originally she didn't look evil. She was cute/HAWT, but had a PURE evil nature. She was a rose with thorns and THAT'S when she was at her best. They ruined her after that.
The Netherrealm era games writing inconsistencies are honestly my biggest gripes. The one that gets me riled up is how despite Scorpion being clearly defined as a Spectre (who retains his freewill) for decades up until MK 2011 was seemingly just reduced to another revenant being controlled by Quan Chi at the start of MKX. It really bothers me they did that to this day lol
Scorpion's story is similar to the one from MK Conquest. He's under a curse that gives him his powers, but in MKX/11 has learned to overcome it. Essentially he's been changed from Ghost Rider to Ryu and the struggles with the dark Hado.
I don't think Scorpion was intended to be portrayed as a revenant in MKX. It may have appeared that way on the surface, but I think he was still just a specter. Notice how he doesn't look like any of the revenants? I just think he was "bewitched" by Quan Chi, which explains why he acted similar to the revenants. When Quan Chi was defeated in his lair, it freed him from Quan Chi's influence.
Sindel being retconed, Kotal being disrespected, Hanzo destroying the chance for Liu Kang and the other to be brought back to life and I can go on and on but I won’t do it.
My exact problems with the Snow Blind ending wasn't that they went there. Is that they didn't use it to fix the mess they were living in. Not to mention the condition Sub-Zero is in at the end.
Yeah like Old Sub-Zero beated Kano with Kronikas power and i was so hyped because Sub is my fav and they had sthrenght to change everything and just destroyd it i get it it was dangerous weapon but you could have changed the past and then destroy it
The Sindel retcon kind of annoyed me. She's such a generic villain now. Evil just for evils sake. MK2 movie is bad, but still had Sonya and Mileena fighting in the mud so not a total failure. :P
I'm still pissed about Mileena's death, on top of that NRS didn't even bring her into 11's story for the much awaited vengeance, instead Dvorah just gets to kill Scorpion. 11's story was such a shit show of wasted potential with multiple things really. Like imagine if Mileena and Kitana got a chance to reconcile with both growing above their flaws if it was gonna be the end of a timeline anyway. But no
I liked in MK Legacy when Kano was responsible. MUCH better reasoning. While we're on the topic Sub-Zero's scar. Just have Scorpion or ONE of the cybers responsible; preferably Sektor. Kung Lao and than later Kano is pretty stupid.🙄

Sindel made evil just for the sake of it is pure absurdity. Definitively the worst part for me. Silver medal for mk11 ninja masks. Ok, maybe it's just a me-thing, but it really pissed me off. They reproduced at perfection assassins' outfits in mk11, those of MK2 and those of mk3...and they made a mess with ninjas ' oufits. No umk3 outfits, just MK1/2. And why the masks are all different? What 's the point? Even more absurd if you consider that they gave identical masks to Shang 's ninja transformations.
Worth mentioning also the major issues 1. The major character getting turned into ravenant (aka zombies) by Quan Chi to be his lackeys after being killed by Sindel 2. How the hell Sub Zero got turned back into an organic human ravenant when by the end of MK9 he was turned into a cyber ninja
I binged MK onquest about a year ago after rediscovering it on HBO Max. It was awful, I expected it to be awful, but it still had some legit fun MK moments in it and sorta captured the spirit of the OG film, just don't expect excellent Koreography.
I actually loved the battle damage idea in Mortal Kombat 9, I wish they kept it going but advanced it and made it look better, it really could be a unique looking mechanic for them today given how bloody and gory the series is.
@@RobCrowley85 most definitely, it gives the players something to care about whether they like seeing the battle damaged versions of the characters or keeping them as clean as possible if they played right they could do so, it also added a sense of realism to these characters getting the hell beaten out of them.

I genuinely have a special place in my heart for Mortal Kombat Conquest. It was incredibly cheesy, but it was also unironically the thing that got me into Martial Arts. Also, Zero was only one of the main characters of the show. The others being Kung Lao, and Taja
I grew up on the original port of MK3, it was my introduction into Mortal Kombat. So I had no idea who scorpion was, who kitana was, none of them. It was only until after I saw the first movie, and began to play some of the later games like deception I was introduced to a majority of the characters
"Worst Moments in MK History" Half the list is MK11/Aftermath. Only good thing about MK11 is it erases the entire NRS timeline. Let's hope they stick with it. Please don't bring back the NRS timeline. Or Time travel.

(I would also add it hurts Kronika's character but she's beyond repair in my opinion).
Siro is not the main character of Mortal Kombat Conquest TV series, the Great Kung Lao is. Siro is a support character. I use to watch it a lot in the 90's lol. It was like Xena & Hercules but with Mortal Kombat characters and lore.
Imagine if Dragon Ball brought back Bardock but made him into a manipulative, lying douchebag who hated his children and the entire Saiyan race and also aided Frieza in the destruction of Planet Vegeta. Now you know how bad the Sindel retcon is.
Agree on almost all of your picks ... and 'bout the last one : SnowBlind is truly an awesome Mk movie (something you can watch over & over again without getting sick of it) ... pretty much everything was set so good in it ... BUT the ending ? It was so dumb I was like WTF ! It's sad that the movie ended like that , cuz I believe they could actually use the idea of more* new timelines and the hourglass itsef to make more movies like this one (that just gave us all a new MK exprience and a whole new vibe of this series)
I remember waiting for that Conquest series to air, watched all the episodes every week, and feeling like it was more Mortal Kombat content that was awesome! Watching it now, takes me back to that same feeling. All I want is more MK content, Street Fighter, Marvel or DC content. More Content to bring me back to the 1990's, please! Lol
For me the worst part of that web series/movie trailer was that there was either a TON of people or just a very vocal minority, who kept heaping praise on it for being "realistic". It was one of the most visceral moments of disdain I've ever had for popular opinion. I almost felt like people were trying to gaslight me into thinking it was good, but it was missing the soul of MK for me.
Liu Kang dying in the opening cutscene of DA will always upset me. Growing up I only played MK games when my older siblings would get it, and every time I played i chose LK. When I was given DA, my first MK game, I was so excited! But then that cutscene played and I just sat there in sadness
Agreed 100% . Mk 11 turned in mostly into a joke with him being written as a big dumb brute and taking a henchmen role to arguably the worst character in Mk. His loses to Kotal then Kitana like he's a regular fighter I will admit do kinda take away that mystique of being an unstoppable boss, but Kotal (although being written terribly) is a strong character that could realistically hold his own against Kahn, same with Kitana and her finally getting some personal revenge on Kahn for what he's done to her and her family was definitely over due (which even that gets a bit ruined by the writers having Kitana out of character not kill Shao Kahn). Even the wins he did get in Aftermath still don't help him cause they're all honestly forced cause Fire God Liu let it all happen, and he's overshadowed by stuff like Sindel's garbage retcon and cringe dialogue between the 2, along with him looking like a big fool with him trusting Shang Tsung and not expecting Shang to turn on him, and that's not even including how in the context of Sindel's retcon, he looks like a complete idiot for believing Quan Chi in Mk 9 with the sacrifice creating the barrier around Earthrealm Sindel made. Fortunately though Shao Kahn has been getting treated much better since then with Mk Battle of the realms bringing Kahn back to his old cunning nearly unstoppable conquer self, and Mk onslaught seems to be keeping up with this with him already having a backup plan to turn on Shinnok and not trusting him. Now if they can just keep this up along with erasing Aftermath and Sindel's retcon from cannon, that should wipe the garbage away completely to fix him.

Aftermath is SO INFURIATING. Everything the characters worked hard for and all their arcs concluding. Kitana becoming Kahn, Sonya finally killing Kano, Kung Lao SURVIVING a whole game - all just undone by everyone’s favorite variation Sore Loser Shao Kahn and Character Assassinated Sindel in like 10 minutes. It also ruins the main story. Also Shao Kahn beating Liu Kang makes no sense considering Liu Kang was about to beat him before time broke and Shao was already weakened from being blinded. And done even get me started on Sindel…
If it was Kronica's skull in Snow Blind. Shang Tsung also wears the crown in Mortal Kombat 11. Kano speaks about defeating Shang Tsung in the past during their fight
I got one he missed...Kotal Kahn literally in mk11 got bodied by D'vorah, Jade, Shao Kahn twice, Sheeva and even killed off. (Even if Shao Kahn is stronger by default I think MKX Kotal would put up more of a fight and not to mention he didn't use his powers not once against Shao so...)
Corey Harris the Sheeva loss is understandable. Kortal had yet to fully revover from his broken back. He couldn't even stand or walk properly, much less fight. Of course he would lose, and there is no shame in that, we all know he shouldn't have been anywhere near a battle at that time. The Shao Kahn loss is also acceptable. Shao Kahn is ridiculously strong. Only Raiden and Shinnok have a realistic chance of beating him in a straight up one on one fight. Lui Kang only wins because of chosen one plot armor. Losing to Jade was straight bs though. I can't argue with that. D'vorah, hmmm....that's not an easy one to decide. If you're talking sheer brute force then yes, Kotal would mop the floor with her. But D'vorah's powers are so tricky and unconventional, and yet deadly, that you really gotta bring your A game to beat her. Essentially, she doesn't fight alone because she has thousands of bugs of various sizes and numbers that she can call upon, and her insect like limbs and movements are so inconventiol I imagine it must be a nightmare for any martial artist to go up against her. She's so unpredictable. But I still think Kotal should win, not easily, but definitely. He is still the stronger fighter and he is supposedly a battle strategist and tactician. Also, unlike say, Earthrealmers or Netherealmers, as an Outworlder, he is very familiar with D'vorah's fighting style and abilities, especially since they served in the same court. I feel like he would beat her 8 out of 10 times.

So I guess we are just ignoring Defenders of The Realm and The Journey Begins. Funnily enough, I never really hated anything MK did, even though some ideas were pretty bad. I just understand that with 12+ games of spaghetti lore, there is bound to be a lot of silly things thrown at the wall. Imagine the universe where we all loved Konquest, and Cero became THE GREATEST MORTAL KOMBAT CHARACTER!
The original timeline paid attention to its lore & character backstories. NRS said, "Fuck that, let's make Sindel evil just because she looks evil, even though she was created to be a subversion of the 'evil stepmother' trope from the very beginning." Plus, with WB owning MK, fans obviously know that Raven exists & she's literally one of the children of the 8th devil Trigon, yet she's used most as a heroine as a member of the Teen Titans.
Now that MK 1 is out allow me to add to the list: (Spoiler alert) Sindel from Shang universe defeating everyon. You're telling me that an elder God, a literal undead machine, 2 - 3 of earth finest assassins, earthrealm champion, 2 capable fighters, the battle princess of Outworld and 2 Umgadis and more, failed to defeat this alternate version of Sindel, who killed Empress Sindel, and then she manages to lose to Mileena? I know that scene was a reference to mk9 Sindel's macsacre but at least can't they make it a little bit more logical?
Some that i can think of are: 1.- Stop Making Konquest in the MKD style, it's just so good 2.- Way too many guest fighters, imo Robocop, Terminator and Rambo just feel out of place 3.- Characters in story mode not being playable, like Rain and Baraka in MKX and Sektor and Cyrax in 11 4.- MK Armaggedon, a prime example of an idea way too big to be good, maybe if it where done in this generation of consoles the development team could make it as big as intentioned 5.- Comics not being canon, god, there was so many good ideas in the MKX comic, and that cliffhanger... it's just maddening
I have some dim memories of MK Conquest. I remember it being slotted after WCW Nitro on TNT in the late 90s. Even as a kid I could never make it through a complete episode.
I think all of MK11 unnecessary retcons. Like, I can't think a single one that was good. Erron and Kabal lost their backstorys that made them interesting to become the most generics jobbers period. Scarlett lost her unique creation story and she is now into incest for some reason (I want to unsee that)? Tryborg never came back with how awsome the idea of the Hive mind that the ciber iniciative was going for finally complete. We could have even play with adding more minds like maybe adding Ciber Sub or other characters to him could change him to be a good Guy or change his objective or other crazy stuff like becoming a Cyber Ermac. There are so much cool stuff you can do with him and he in practise never existed. Casaie MKX ending is terrible and adds nothing to Cassie while shitting on Shujinko. Takeda and Kung Jin not being in MK 11 was criminal. I could go on but this list is long enought.
You forgot two worst moments, Reptile wearing his old costume in mk11 crypt and being killed for pennies. Reptile being killed by Kano in the new mortal Kombat movie, he didn't even get a chance to do something cool.
Where the new movie failed with introducing Cole is that they already had a built-in plot device for him: Just make it so that his power was summoning the ancestral spirit of Scorpion into his own body. That's it. That's literally all they had to do. He invokes his power, Scorpion takes over, and then it's still Cole fighting Sub-Zero but the form of his ancestor. Instead they gave him a dumb looking armor power and barely involved him in the final conflict.
As a person who played Armageddon a lot when I was younger I hated that character creation was copypaste moves and even some fair and outfits and the fatality system of Armageddon.
Okay, I can get it if you look at just Deadly Alliance and see Liu Kang dying, it sucks. But, I think Zombie Liu Kang was a super cool idea, and his appearance in the Armageddon intro is a moment I'll never forget. I think Zombie Liu Kang should come back as a separate character as MK's Evil Ryu/Devil Jin equivalent with his Zombie tendencies and chains incorporated into his gameplay

The reasoning for making Sindel evil was just outright STUPID!!! "oH sHe LoOkS eViL sO sHe MuSt Be EvIl." You gotta be fucking kidding me! Alright! If we are going to go by that logic then they should have made Cetrion and Kronika good. They look like nice people trying to make the world a better place. Why would they want to destroy the world if they look like nice people? Or they should have made Scorpion and Sub-Zero full on bad guys because they look like generic "evil" chinese assassins and the ninja costumes scared my baby cousin. See where I'm trying to get at? The Sindel one has always been kinda like you don't exactly know what to do with her attitude and alignment of sort, on the other hand she is badass as a villainess but on the other she had a history that she wasn't bad plus, her evilness just really rubs off the wrong way... But she didn’t go out without suffering as Shao Kahn took her soul and kept it as a contingency plan. That plan went into effect in MK3, bringing back Sindel under mind control and using her to facilitate his invasion. Kitana snapped her mother out of it and together they reclaimed rule of their recently liberated realm. After Kitana’s death and own mind control Sindel set out with Jade to free her daughter just like Kitana did years prior. Canonically it’s Ermac and Liu Kang that frees her but it’s the thought that counts and that image from her ending is so iconic in fans minds. On the Armageddon screens that shows a character in the foreground and their nemesis in the background Shao Kahn’s was Sindel! How do some people not know anything about the characters of the franchise they claim to be a fan of? Evil Sindel doesn’t even work within the canon of the new timeline! Even if you take MK11 and Aftermath in a vacuum, it still doesn’t make any sense. Now she’s just some generic evil queen type character that’s so on the nose even Disney would cringe. Actually that’s an insult to Disney because even they have better written villainesses. What they did to Sindel is the worst case of character assassination and I do not believe there is any other example in anything ever that tops what has been done to Sindel

Thank God that Shang Tsung's ending wasn't the Canon ending for MK1. I really cannot stomach a very bad end for this like it would for Injustice 2. Oh, and Fire God Liu Kang is pretty cool.
Not sure if I’m remembering this correctly but didn’t Shang Tsung say that they had to take Sindel’s body to the Soul Chamber to revive her and then the Jinsei to cleanse her? I swear they never go to the Jinsei? Maybe that explains her being evil? Am I imagining all this?
Massive L for saying conquest and legacy are bad. They are cheesy but also amazing. Also Ciro is not the main character of conquest, The Great Kung Lao is.
MK11 Sindel is my favourite Sindel. For me the worst moments of MK history is the Annihilation movie, Cassie beating Shinnok in X, Reptile begging in 4, and the entire story mode of MK1.
Raiden, who has the fastest teleport in the series, a literal god of thunder, just stood there and watched as poor Kung Lao got demolished... Also the same god sucks at predicting future and making bbq out of liu kang.
I actually really liked that Mortal Kombat Show! I used to watch it every Monday after Wcw Nitro. The guy that Played Shao Khan and Raiden was phenomenal

Dude, the Deadly Alliance OP is one of the coolest moment in franchise history. Who was unhappy with the murder of Liu Kang, who is this person, what are you even talking about. Liu Kang became a fucking Kung Fu Zombie with chains. KUNG ZOMBIE who killed people with Kung Fu! Are you nuts? This is one of the coolest things in the history of MK. You said it would be cool if revenant Liu Kang was a threat in the plot instead of a weakling clown. This has already happened in Deadly Alliance and Deception.
Didn't even mentioning they made MKX Hanzo Hasashi being selfishly hell bent on vengeance just so the nether realm revenant army could still exist in MK11, the in consistency on what MK11 characters like Kotal said on what happened in MKX between Earthrealm & Outworld, & basically the entirety of MK11 Aftermath (the audacity that NRS made Liu Kang let Shang Tsung basically doom everybody when he knows the sorcerer's plan was from the very beginning instead of taking him down on sight at the start).
