I loved this film. Back when the Snyderverse movied came out a lot of people used to complain saying the problem with those movies is the darkness. So WB started focusing on fun and colorful and nostalgic movies. Honestly I like both takes of the character.

I think that the main idea was to bring the silliness of the 80’s, and I think they did a great job; but it’s exhausting to see people asking for dramatic and dark movies. What I love about Wonder Woman is that she can be a badass warrior and a beacon of hope for people, so seeing this side of her is kind of refreshing.

I think that the colours‘s in the movie represents like how the movie and the theme‘s gonna go cause wonder woman from 2017 was explaining a really dark time with displaying World War I and then this one’s like displaying the 80s are really bright and colourful time or we don’t have any big mass of world wars going on

The best part of Diana and Barbara is that they are the different sides of the same coin. Like Diana Prince name means goddess of the hunt and royalty/prince while Barbara Minerva means barbarian and goddess of wisdom. Their names are opposites in every way. Diana is the perfect warrior and Cheetah is the perfect hunter. Diana is the beloved daughter of the gods and Cheetah is the wretched wife of a god. I just wish they made that more clear for audiences that don’t know cheetah and how strong she really is. It’s also fascinating that this version of Cheetah starts as a insecure and self loathing type of character, then becomes a confident but miserable character and it’s not until she is in her Cheetah form that to most would be a nightmare that she finally accepts herself and is happy.

Maxwell Lord is a popular Justice League villain, well popular in the sense he betrayed them. This film I thought was okay, it's definitely an early 80's Wonder Woman story, but the tone was a result of Geoff Johns being in control. Johns is a great writer but here he doesn't understand what translates well to screen and what doesn't. Patty Jenkins eventually admitted that with this film she had less control than the first film where Snyder let her do her thing. The original story was supposed to be about Diana returning home like we saw at the end of ZSJL. They changed it because of the changes with Justice League (same with Aquaman but not as obvious). The Invisible Jet is a popular part of Wonder Woman's history but since Post Crisis she hadn't used it much because she can fly. The Cheetah story was essentially The Riddler in Batman Forever and Shocker in Amazing Spiderman 2, a friend of the hero who goes bad because the hero hurt their feelings. Not a bad trope but just tiring. I'm afraid this will be the future of DC. This is why DC works better as a serious set of films and not like Marvel. Wonder Woman 1984 is an Elseworlds story of sorts not fully connected to the DCEU. Like how Halloween 2018 is connected to John Carpenter's Halloween but the sequels don't count.

In the comics Wonder Woman has had the power of flight since the late 70s/early 80s. Before the Crisis On Infinite Earth's reset the DC Comics timeline Wonder Woman could mimic flight by riding air currents. Post Crisis, she was granted the powers of speed and flight by the god Hermes at birth.

20:00 -- the thing is, the swinging around at the mall and in many instances throughout the film *wasn't* CGI. Patty Jenkins wanted as many practical effects as possible in the scenes where it was feasible to do so: the mall swinging was all real, as were some other scenes where that and similar happened, such as the White House fight with Diana and Barbara swinging/jumping. (Obviously, scenes like the desert swinging and the final fight between Barbara and Diana was CGI in many/most instances due to practical necessity, but a great deal was in fact Gal/a stunt woman actually swinging around with wires, etc, vs being CGI.)

30:15 WW has been flying in the comics, across several core continuities, since 1986. Prior to that, for most of her Pre-Crisis era(s), she could glide on wind currents as shown in this film. (DCEU WW doesn't fly the way Superman or Cyborg can, but again leaps great distances and can glide -- the higher in the air she is, the longer/further she can maintain her motion.)

36:00 Part of the dream stone is that when it's power is lifted/reversed, virtually everyone forgets what happened not unlike waking from a dream. Sidenote: Barbara, however, never renounced her initial wish; she reverted from being The Cheetah due to Max losing *his* power, and the second wish he provided, but she still has her mirrored qualities of Diana, albeit a reduced power version because she had made her first wish after Diana had made hers, this having Barbara be like a reduced version of Diana.

You have to understand that there is too much negativity and controversy today attached with Snyderverse. The actors are the face of Snyderverse even though they didn't do anything wrong. Unless we move on from them, the small but very vocal negative group will continue to harass everything which is not done by Snyder. Also in general audience, the current DCEU has sadly lost all credibility and it hurts me because I have loved these movies, but DC deserves to be up there with Marvel and even above it because they have an amazing catalog of heroes, the comics and its stories are bigger than an actor and even a particular director like Snyder and it is the time to move on.

@@mridulsharma768 Thank you for your comments, which were phrased in a nice way. I both agree and disagree with you. Yes, the actors bear the hallmarks of the ill fated Snyderverse. They could have taken any script from the many animated movies, which are hands down better written than anything Marvel has, and gone to town with it, like they have done with the forthcoming Flashpoint Paradox. In one instance, they ruined Suicide Squad because they differed too far from the plot of the animated movie. I prefer the heroes I enjoy, played by the actors who have done them the most justice, pardon the pun. I feel bad particularly for Cavill, who has been hung out to dry for many years, only to be told he is "too old." Nonsense. Gunn, in firing Cavill, has given fans, me included, the middle finger- at least that is the way I interpret it. I feel I have no choice but to voice my opinion, and let it be made known. Note, this does not mean that these actors cannot do non- Snyder DC movies. I hope that this decision comes full circle back on Gunn, which will be very much deserved. I fear that by the time it does though, it will be too late for my favorite Superman and Batman to make any more appearances in their respective roles.

@@Augustus087 Again, these are movies which are very subjective. You thought Gunn's SQ was bad and I thought it was a great movie. Even the flash movie is so very different from animated flashpoint paradox. Yeah I do think they did justice to them but you cannot deny the fact that there is a feeling of no trust in current DCEU in normies at least, and they have to be invested in it. The current DCEU cannot deliver back the money which you want them to invest in it. And I am sorry but I would never wish bad luck on Gunn or anyone for that matter on something which is so subjective. I hope Gunn makes good movies because god knows DC deserve it. Henry is great, but I am sorry, just because he cannot be superman, no one should be allowed to be Superman again? If these actors did justice to the characters, doesn't mean others cannot. Pattinson did it, and I love Affleck as Batman but still Pattinson did great justice to the role. Time to move on, god knows everyone associated with Snyderverse wants to move on. Snyder or any of these actors, even though I love all of them do not own these characters, and the new heads should be allowed to show their interpretation, and I can only hope they are good.

@@Augustus087 And if I am being very honest, the fans including you are not a great number or else Black Adam which had Cavill even as a cameo in it would have had at least given some boost to Box office, there was nothing literally. This shows that general public who we call normies, don't give a shit anymore and I wish it was different. Also your favorite Batman has already said no to Batman even before Gunn joined. He has said multiple times that he is over it and it was not a good experience for him. I think as I said, these characters from comics mean a lot to people, and they are bigger than the actors who play them. Time for them to get justice, I cannot do anything but wait to see what Gunn does, if he disappoints, I will for sure speak up against it, but I will not join the small but very vocal toxic fanbase which refuses to see anything which doesn't have exactly what they want, whoch is fine, you can say no to watch it, but they literally harass people involved in it and that's the toxicity which sadly the Snyderverse and even the later DCEU has come to be associated with.

Ugh....so much wasted potential. I loved the first WW and WW is my favorite superhero, so no hate towards the character I get what they were trying to do, it just didn't work for the most part. I didn't mind the more upbeat, "wholesome" vibe because Diana is a very uplifting character. I didnt even mind that she talked herself into a win vs fighting at the end. My biggest problem with this movie is the director, Patty Jenkins She got a major win with the first WW, rightfully so, it was awesome. Then she started getting a bit high on her own fumes and thought she was a writer. But i can't even blame her 100% because the studio gave her control over the sequel and had to greenlight this script so they are partly to blame. And don't even get me started on the whole Steve "body swap" thing because it's just gross. Just imagine if the roles were reversed and it was a women who was swapped. People would be screaming the R word left and right but crickets when this happened. After the slight backlash, even Patty Jenkins said she doesn't see the big deal with that. OMG what?!?! Anyway, thanks for coming to my TED talk

And this "embassor of peace" is exactly the version of the character in the George Perez run in the 1980s, it was bold to change the version of the character from one movie to the other? Sure. But it was a creative decision and the time jump allowed to.

Nah, Batman v Superman still holds the title as worst, followed by Suicide Squad (2016). This one is third, though. But I have to hand it to them, in a twisted way: They actually made the main character commit rape, which is a new low in superhero movies. Steve took over another man's body, mind controlling it, and Diana had sex with that body; without consent. Killgrave did a similar thing in the Netflix show "Jessica Jones", but there it wasn't meant to be romantic. There it was shown as reprehensible.

I gotta admit. This is a guilty pleasure for me. Is it good? No. Is it the worst thing ever? No. Not even in the top 5, maybe even 10, worst superhero films I've seen. For ME (and I understand why other's might not feel the same), the good aspects make it worth watching. Despite it's numerous flaws. Heck, I'd watch this over Love and Thunder any day.

@GL Fer the opening Amazon event, cleverly utilized action shots, Gal and Chris' chemistry, Pedro as the villain, the flashback of the armor, Diana learning to fly, the lesson of being careful what you wish for. While the 80s-ness was a bit overkill at times, there were a few jokes with it that got a chuckle out of me.

@GL Fer I'm 90% sure the opening is supposed to take place after Hippolyta found out and agreed to let her be trained. I'm not a comic purest when it comes to Maxwell Lord. I know exactly how different he is from the source material, but since I was never a big fan of his character anyway I don't mind this take of him and view this guy as a different character entirely and the movie as it's own thing. The Black Mask in Birds of Prey was different from the source material, but as a non-Black Mask fan, didn't care.

I watched a movie a few months ago on Netflix that royally screwed up a character from the source material, but I still loved the movie a lot. I still ranted the hell out of that screw up but I watched the movie over and over again because it was still fun and overall worked.

When I said it was "good aspect" I didn't mean it was the character fully realized. As a Zack Snyder fan of course I enjoy the first one more and BVS and ZSJL. But I don't get why people hate this sequel. I watched this in theaters twice I think. And I still enjoy it.

I'm just going to ignore all the amazing things I got from this movie because of a worthless opinion like yours that she's suddenly a rapist and the soundtrack didn't please you. Go watch stranger things then. If you like James Gunn's mcu 2.0 without even watching anything from it when his suicide squad flopped guess what? You're defending a pedophile who was fired from marvel and got back there because of a blind campaign when people forget everything he did. WW84 gave me an epic fight with her golden suit I've always wanted to see in live action. Created one of the most amazing flight sequences which is a tribute to classic superman, introduced one of the best WW villains with Cheetah, payed great homage to Linda Carter's version of the character. Brought back Antiope which is my favorite Amazon from the first movie, and Pedro Pascal's performance was incredible as Max. If you hated all of that then that's your problem. It's because of annoying fans like you that DCEU is dead. They chose to listen to worst part of the fandom. The fact that you're celebrating the canceled WW3 just shows you're an idiot. Because there's an amazons project coming anyway.

Barbara's full name in the comics is barbara minerva. She gets a curse and becomes cheetah which is the same form as we see here. She is Wonder Woman's arch nemesis.

I think I read somewhere that, once Patty Jenkins got the chance to write her own movie (Zack Snyder and other writers handled the story on the first one), she wanted her version of Diana to be more like the 70s TV show with Lynda Carter (hence her cameo at the end). That show was very cheesy and campy but charming in a dated way. Trouble is, that didn't translate as well in the present day, and it just felt awkward and weird. (Not to mention the really troubling sexual / power dynamics between Diana and Not!Steve) I liked it just fine (definitely one of the weaker entries in the DCEU) but I can understand why people didn't care for it.

I've always loved this movie too, but I do think the script needed one or two more rounds of revision. But that happens a lot with movies. I also think audience reaction would have been better had they released it right away in November of 2019 like originally planned, before they switched it the June of 2020 (and then delaying it another 6 months because of covid) that wait built up so much anticipation that didn't pay off for a portion of the audience.

G'day it's Steven from Down Under This is far from being a bad movie, it's certainly not a great movie but it is fun and enjoyable, so I'll give it a 6/10 and there are plenty of cool and fun scenes. Being set in 1984 makes it all a little bit kitch and corny. What happened to the post credits scene, did I miss something? Anyway haters are gonna hate and it's the haters that usually manage to have the loudest voice. Wonder Woman 84 is fun and worth watching

I went to see this with a couple friends in cinema and we unanimously agreed after walking out that we were loving the Barbara and Diana Relationship stuff in the beginning, it was nice and when the wishing started happening that's when it sorta derailed and got ruined for us, we would've preferred to see the movie just focus on those two, bringing Steve back was kind of a cheap cop out

I think I can speak for most of us when I say that while the film as a whole is very mixed reaction, but with that being said, I think we all can agree that the musical score was one of the highlights. Han Zimmer has done it again. I was getting a mix of familiar cues from his older works. I also like that at times, he brings out his inner John Williams, Alan Silvestri and James Horner side of himself. Oh and Newfle, you can also check out the musical sketchbook by Zimmer as well. They're basically demos that was written for the film. I kind of like that soundtrack a bit more than the original soundtrack release. Slightly though! Both soundtracks are amazing regardless.

If I was given the position to make this film better, I would definitely increase the quality of the Action Set Pieces. I would like to explore more of the stone related logical questions, like after Steve was brought back the original body person has been missing from the same point, so at the end of the movie were all the people gets chance to wish, who wouldn't wish like Diana to bring back a deadperson? So like a TV ad that many people are missing kinda stuff. And after everybody renouncing the wish, what if some people didn't renounce like Barbara? This film had a huge potential to have connections with Justice League and Suicide Squad. They could have easily shown some of the Suicide Squad characters origin, for example: El Diablo from Suicide Squad 2016, he just says that he was born with the gifts of devil, this movie had a potential to show randomly how he got that powers, maybe his father just wished that his new coming baby should be that powerful and unstoppable kinda stuff. This could be applicable for other characters like Killer Croc and future(The Suicide Squad) characters like Weasel or TDK. They could have done a young Bruce Wayne cameo!! While Max Lord is taking over at the TV, Bruce Wayne will be one of them seeing them on the TV, but he really thinks to wish to see his dead parents alive, but Bruce just accepted the reality and switch off the TV and leaves with a bag from the Wayne Manor(that's where the audience gonna understand " Oh, That was Bruce Wayne 🔥". Mahn! I really love making stories and generate Ideas🥲.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. There are 2 different sides to Wonder Woman in the comics, the first is the powerful warrior, the one that we saw in the first movie, and the second is the wise woman who is selfless. She shows this by actually giving up her wish to keep Steve around and ends up overpowering Max, not by means of being a warrior as much as her wisdom to outsmart him. By communicating to the people to renounce their wish. Many people didn't like this aspect, but it shows who Wonder Woman truly is. The 3rd movie was supposed to tie everything together, but since it has been scrapped, that won't happen now. 1984 was also supposed to be lighter than the other movies as DC execs at the time felt that was what was needed. They decided to make 1984 in the feel of movies that came out in the 80s, which it really does. The end credit is really good as well.

I think the original Justice League was worse but at least there were a lot of reasons it was bad. I don't understand what happened here. No director changes, no actor problems, no writing problems that i know of. This movie isn't great but there are some redeeming qualities with it. I thought Pedro Pascal was really good.

I think I’m greedy I’d wish for a source of money that would set up my whole family in style. It wouldn’t bring permanent happiness but it would open the door to that possibility to not worry about money would relax your everyday experience.

diana does have an invisible plane sometimes in the comics and on tv shows so it's cool... and in the comics Barbara is a character called Cheetah and it's supposed to be a curse from the gods. also i think you should maybe nerrate a little less

I've never been as disappointed by a movie like I was with this movie. I remember seeing the trailer and being so hype and excited to see it because the trailer made it look like it was gonna be so epic. What a complete and utter disappointment it turned out to be. I think if Gal Gadot was a better actress then the movie might not have been so awful. All the side characters are such excellent actors and I feel so bad for them, they were let down by a mediocre main character.

I tried to enjoy this movie too, no matter what others said. But they handled the wish stone so poorly that I was just annoyed mostly. Also, why I like the idea of Gal Gadot forcing herself on me XD, I realize most people would be horrified from what she did using the wish rock.

I enjoyed WW84 which was made in the same style of the first Superman movie and Linda Carter WW television series. Maxwell Lord was better than Ares and Cheetah's villain arc was done worse in movies like Amazing Spider-man 2.

You skipped the end credit. We find out who Asteria is and it's Lynda Carter the original Wonder Woman. I'm a lifelong Wonder Woman fan and I did not love this movie but I get what they were going for. This movie was very intune to the comic. It just didn't translate as well.

An invisible plane was a long staple of Wonder Woman. In the 40's and 60's it was advanced Amazon technology*. After Crisis on Infinite Earths it was magic but Diana didn't do it by a magic spell. *The Amazons had about 2000 years to advance science when they were isolated on Paradise Island. Communication to anywhere (without satellites), invisible space suits and diving suits (so she she could still be seen in her Wonder Woman costume) and the purple healing ray are other examples of the advanced tech available to Wonder Woman.

my main issues with this movie are the fact that she went from badass to "I can't live without a man :'( " and that technically, to me, she assaulted the guy Steve "posessed" because she remembers sleeping with him but that guy doesn't cause while it was his body, it wasn't him... and what happened to him while Steve posessed his body? cause he wasn't dead, he's back when she renounces her wish... so many things were just wrong in this movie

I won't say I loved the movie. It's really cheesy, boring at times, and the ending feels anticlimactic. But I definitely enjoyed it more than Birds of Prey. The irony is if this movie had actually come out in 1984, it would probably be held in higher regards.

I commend you for keeping it positive, but this movie kinda blows lol. Bad script, bad plot, bad special effects, poorly lit final battle to hide the bad cgi, and the physics were wonky at best throughout the movie. I don't mind a lighter toned, more fun movie, but this is what happens when you give the director 100% creative control. There was no one to keep Patty Jenkins in check so she was able to run away with the worst ideas instead of actual writers workshopping a better script. Too many inconsistencies within the movie itself and the rest of the DCEU for me to enjoy this one.

And in the 60's Wonder Woman was able to "fly" by using air currents. To be honest she could cut into a safe using her fingernails or just about anything needed for the situation in the story (and never sue that power again)..

as much as I love Chris Pine I always felt Steve Trevor's inclusion made the movie far messier and often killed the pacing. I usually love cheesy fun movies but WW 1984 just doesn't make sense to me. her losing her powers was weird as a trade-off because they weren't even needed against Maxwell. and wasn't stealing someone's body already a huge trade-off. throughout the whole movie that's never brought up as if it was ok. just forever trade a random guy's life, without his consent, so Steve can return and that's ok because LOVE also for a good cheesy and over the top movie check out RRR

That's the problem. Geoff Johns couldn't stand that Snyder didn't make Superman a smiling cheeseball that saves kittens out of trees so they set this movie in 1984 to purposely disrupt Snyder's timeline. Cuz Geoff Johns sucks.
