It has nothing to do with scholarships, Montana State has had the same number of scholarships as Alabama for 25 years. But couldn’t give them a good game. It’s about conferences and coaches.

Except when you flat out prevent teams from even playing games if their bank account isnt big enough, which is what this sport has done for over 80 years.

A massive flaw in your argument is that some of the teams currently in the G5 literally played in power conferences ......... How tf are you gonna justify that Tulane will never be good enough to compete in a P5 conference, when that program has more SEC Conference titles than 9 TEAMS currently in the SEC? vandy, Kentucky, and Miss State all played in the SEC at the same time that Tulane jjoined that conference in the 1900s - and for 100 years they have done NOTHING....... This was a big problem with keeping other schools like UH, UC and SMU out of the P5 - in that historically these programs literally played more time historically in power conferences than they have played in the G5, yet they are referred to as G5 programs (really doesnt make any sense).

@@MattBuild4 No if anything it supports my argument. That shows that there can be movement from G5 to a power conference and vice versa. It gives teams more to play for and a storyline for fans to invest in. You've actually proved my point for me. Teams can look to UH UC UCF and SMU for inspiration and say "if they can do it why can't we"

@@steventarmann9463 Except the only reason why these universities made the transfer is because Texas and OU were leaving, and that wasnt a decision for the universities to make. Heck UH had tried to join the B12 since they were forced out after the SWC collapse. In 3 different votes every single member of the B12 supported their return, except UT (because UT is a cancer of a program). Petty bs forced UH to be a G5 program for 20+ years. And then you have a true G5 program like Boise State. BSU and UCF actually became Division 1 FBS teams the same year in 95. Since then BSU has won 174 more games than UCF, has won 10 more conference titles, 3 more undefeated seasons, 4 more Top 5 appearances, 7 more Top 10 appearances, 10 more Top 25 appearances and won 6 more bowls than UCF. So how in the world does UCF making the B12 possibly inspire other programs, because clearly this decision to make the Power conference had nothing to do with a program ability to play a sport. This isnt really a dig at UCF, but it helps illustrate that UCF is in the B12 because of their proximity to Miami media markets - thats really it.

Thats pretty bs when you have multiple G5 teams that should make the P5 playoff from the start like in 2020 with #11 GCU and #8 Cincinatti. This isnt a one off either. If a 12 team playoff existed in 2010 there would be 3-4 G5 teams in the playoff - #3 MWC Champ, #7 WAC Champ, #8 MWC Runner Up, #11 WAC Runner Up.

does anyone really think that any of the 'top tier' programs will step out of their home field? sure, they'll talk 'revenues' and the like. but they don't, have never been held to account to play 'tough schedules'... i am in the camp of: let 'em go. good riddance. lots of great football outside the 'blue bloods'. tired of prima donnas (glad to have UT become an SEC problem :)
