Fomo is the main reason I am interested in the Coruscant Guard Gunship. I already have the 2013 Gunship with all but one of the figs, and that set is superior in every way to the newer one, and yet I want the new one, because I know the price will skyrocket the moment it retires.
That can be said with any collectible hobby! I personally don’t go crazy buying everything I see. I wait months before I buy a set because I know is NOT going away in a day. Like guys relax and you DON’T have to buy them on day one!
I think the worst thing about post retirement is that a lot of people that don't even collect or build Lego are "investing" in Lego which isn't the problem. Problem is that once the set retires they think they are sitting on solid gold. A set is only worth what you will pay. Not what the seller is asking. I always make a offer instead of outright buying. If they refuse the offer they can continue sitting on it instead of making a sale. They can't get any money out of something that doesn't sell.
I ve gotten really selective. I now only really collect Lord of the rings and the hobbit sets , and Star Wars , limmited to only Original Trilogy star wars. Because i feel when you get into too many themes , you rapidly run the risk of being way too overwhelmed. Cutting down on themes means being able to buy everything you really need for your collection , so no more Fomo. Anyway , thats how i deal with this hobby , and its pitfalls.
I definitely agree. I feel like with the amount of variety in the sets I collect it gets very overwhelming very easily. There's so many cool releases across all the themes I'm interested in that it gets frustrating to collect them all
I don't mind paying a premium as long as a premium product is delivered. But... quality has been lacking. The use of stickers in the UCS Venator and UCS Tie Interceptor for example is unacceptable. The fact that they can't even put the windshield pieces and plaques in their own bags to prevent scratching is also unacceptable. Minifig prints of light colors on darker pieces LEGO can definitely do better.
IKR! I'd definitely pay a price to see some other LEGO collections too. For the inspiration but also just to admire how they display and all of the sets they may have
Nice video 👏🏻 enjoyed the honesty. I got back into Lego during Covid and bought sets from lots of themes. After a while I ran out of space (and money) so decided to focus on one theme (Star Wars) and sell all my modulars, Harry Potter and random other sets. I don’t regret it and have a nice focused collection now. Less fomo too.
Thank you!!! I kind of want to have a focused collection so I can get more of what I like and again have less FOMO but I love the variety of my collection and being able to build differently designed sets from a variety of themes is a lot of fun. however, having to find space for all of those sets as opposed to just sets from a single theme is its own struggle.
