Okay so I had 3D Land on my list and even had the info for it in my script but just forgot it for some reason in the actual video. The worst part was basic world and level themes with a boring world map that's the same for every world.
And the star coins in random levels that required mini mushrooms😭 You’d have to either replay a level to save one up, or go through the whole level with it without taking a hit
yeah that's true but if you really want a consistent extra blue shell in your pocket slot, go to world 3 cannon. when you spawn in as blue shell mario or luigi, hold the sprint button jump over the cannon and hit the item block if done correctly you will always get a blue shell. but then again you do need to already have a blue shell...
2:31 The reason why older Mario games are so hard is because the older consoles couldn’t have that much content, so Nintendo decided to make their games harder so that the games lasted longer, tricking people into thinking that the game had more content than it actually has
Definitely true. Games like mario odyssey are super easy but have so much content. What I really like about it though is that it can be played as fast or as slow as you want, unlike the galaxy games.
I mean Nintendo wasn't the only culprit just the main one. Do we remember how difficult Sonic games actually were? Like really? Along with a lot of other 3rd party developers. I would say Nintendo were the first to balance difficulty better overall. For most things. And not just make things difficult for difficulties sake
@@TheBigSmqch18 The games were amazing though! Here I go being a hypocrite. I don't like the linear zelda games, but like the open world ones. And I am about to back up the linear mario games. MARIO AND ZELDA ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Anyway here is why I love the galaxy games. The graphics: If they made a true HD or 4k version, it would be insane. The story: It is definitely the most story focused game, and it was a great idea to try. It didn't work very well, I absolutely hated how you couldn't skip the cutscenes, and that they were so slow, but it was a good idea just to try out. And maybe it didn't work out. It's better to try! Lots of the stars are super fun to collect! I definitely prefer odyssey now, since I like speedrunning it. Can you imagine speedrun a game about slow walking?
And that's not a bad thing. Overall I much prefer the small amount of difficult content approach over the massive amount of mindlessly easy content approach (the approach that most modern open world games go for)
Just cuz I feel bad for Mario games, here's the best thing about every mainline game: Smb: importance in videogame history Smb2 (lost levels): uhhh, music? Smb3: level design Smb2 (USA): multiple characters SmWorld: Idk, allmost everything in this game is amazing SmLand: introduction to handheld Mario games, I guess SmLand2: introduces Wario Sm64: importance in videogame history SmSunshine: colorful and creative scenarios Nsmb: great return of 2D Mario games NsmbWii: multiplayer Nsmb2: uhh, Idk honestly NsmbU: multiplayer SmGalaxy/Galaxy2: pretty much everything Sm3DLand: 3D RACCOON MARIO! Sm3DWorld: Cat Mario is so good, and level design is great SmOdyssey: same thing as World SmWonder: same thing again
The easily worst part of sticker star in my opinion is the puzzles, most of the time the game asks "Do you have this random non-related thing? Oh, you don't? Well we're not gonna tell you what it is or where to find it, stupid! Just find it yourself. have fun searching all the levels only for you to find something and it's not what you need." Like you could be in level 4-3 and need something from 2-4 and you wouldn't know. And then if you use the wrong thing, it gets rid of it. Then you search even more until you just look up a guide, give up, or by some miracle find the correct thing.
I agree with many of the points you made about the imperfections in Mario games. Especially the difficult and sometimes frustrating parts of some games. However, these elements also make the game more enjoyable.
Not really cause super Mario bros Wii was designed mostly with Multiplayer in mind, and the games doesn’t do it all that well. Considering they did design the game for multiplayer it affects the rest of the game as some stages are rather empty and boring cause they had to design the stage with 4 players in mind. All in all new super Mario bros multiplayer has never been great.
6:00 What I found funny about Sunshine is that had Luigi came with them and the Judge ruled differently, Mario WOULDN'T have been let out of Prison and it would have been up to Luigi to clear Mario's Name.
I don’t mind the Green Stars in Galaxy 2, there are definitely those annoying one’s but they aren’t all bad. And I played Galaxy 1 so many times, I don’t have problems with the Comets.
I find it ironic you faulted Mario Odyssey for being too easy. My issue is 100% that game is an absolute nightmare - especially that awful jump rope challenge. Yoshi’s Island DS is actually pretty great. It’s just that dreadful music that holds it back
I absolutely conquered New Super Mario Bros. on the DS, I both 100% it and maxed out the score counter. The only problem I had was that one star coin in World Six, I could not find it for the life of me, I had to look up a guide to find it. It was in such a dumb spot that I would've never thought to look there. But after looking it up I found it pretty easily. I also couldn't get into the spot with Luigi for some reason, it only worked with Mario.
The good thing about noticing bad aspects of games is that it helps in terms of designing something new to ensure the same mistake isn’t repeated again.
The two worst parts of Partners in Time is: A) The bosses take FOREVER, and you have no indication of how much health they have left B) Battling while separated is tedious and unlivable, ESPECIALLY late game
The worst part about Super Mario World is losing both powerups when taking damage. The worst part of New Super Mario Bros Wii is the powerup system because the levels are designed around using powerups, and not having them means missing out on the fun until you find the next item block. This problem is solved in Super Mario Bros Wonder with the badge system. For Super Mario Galaxy 2, it is swimming. Unlike Super Mario Galaxy 1, spinning underwater has a long cooldown so swimming without a shell is extremely slow. For Princess Peach Showtime, it is having to replay the entire level if you miss a collectible, as well as replaying levels in the postgame for the hidden ninjas.
I strongly disagree with the back tracking in super paper Mario being a bad thing. The return pipe can be used anywhere, even in flipside or flopside if you want to get back to the level selection quickly. Plus you eventually get a pixl that allows you to run making this game one where you move the fastest. I much prefer to 100% super than any of the other games.
Nice video Nin10doland! I've been watching your channel for a while and finally decided to subscribe. I know its hard right now as you mentioned in your previous video; keep up the good work! I mostly agree with your analysis, but there are a few things I would mention: -NSMB: I actually really liked the challenge of beating the bosses as Mini Mario to find the secret worlds. -NSMBW: Multiplayer is hectic, but I loved it as a kid; it wouldn’t be the same without it. -SMG: I like comet missions for the most part; their biggest flaw is that many are actually too easy. -SMG2: Yes, some Green Stars are annoying or filler, but they mostly give a good excuse to revisit galaxies and add some difficulty. -M&LSS I personally did like Joke’s end; getting lost in games is immersive and sadly something we don’t see as much these days. -M&LPIT: Just wanted to add that the Bros. Item system has always been worse than SP/BP to me. -M&LBIS: I like the 2D sections, they add variety, and the Bros. do eventually get to explore in 3D anyways.
@YT-xu5fy I know and that's why it frustrated me,It's one of the easiest and fastest stars once you know where to go,But I cannot imagine how players back then knew where to go other than by complete chance or from someone who actually found it
@@YT-xu5fy Yeah, sorry buddy, but nobody at school I knew back in 96 figured that fucking star out. It's easy now with a RU-vid guide, it was a nightmare at the time.
@pinealdreams3005 Yeah, some of stars can be really hard to find without a guide. For me, I got stuck on Tall Tall mountain with Mysterious Mountainside for 2 hours before quitting and watching a guide. So yea, name hints in this game sucks
9:27 They DO do something. 1M gives you a golden Mario statue in the title screen, and 10M turns that into a golden Raccoon Mario statue. The game also congratulates you for these. Also 23:40 What would you say is the worst part of Yoshi Topsy Turvy and Touch & Go?
Some guy on RU-vid timed exactly how much time you waste with entering and exiting galaxies in Galaxy 1. I think it was like 8 hours or something across the full game. It was wild.
oddly for Mario Land 2 6 golden coins, the actual, real worst part is, on the off-chance you get a game-over in Wario's Castle, you'll literally have to do all of the bosses all over again cuz the game even has a cutscene showing the 6 golden coins getting tossed out from their inserted slots in the castle door, right back to the bosses once this game-over happens 💀
I much prefer videos like this over the "here's what I'm going to guess Nintendo will do next year" type videos based on little to no news. Love the channel though! Didn't mean for it to sound mean spirited, just genuine viewer feedback from a long term sub
I am SO glad to hear that I'm not the only one that absolutely HATES the wing cap controls. Everyone seems to love that powerup but I cannot stand it 😭😭
I remember the first time unlocking the green stars as a kid in super mario galaxy 2, I remember having so much fun trying to find the green stars, some of them were in very clever places, I dont mind the green stars at all.
Actually i would say the worst things about Sticker Star isnt the battle system actually. I would say the puzzles requiring you to already have items you didnt know you needed beforehand else you backtrack, so backtracking is a huge problem in this game. And the other i would say is the serious lack of a story. The boss fights could honestly use a mention as well, since they also require you to have thing stickers beforehand to hit their weakness, and the player is somehow supposed to know this ahead of time. Dont have the thing sticker or just didnt use it? Have fun trying to chip the boss's 300+ HP with attacks that can do 10 at most. Actually used the weakness sticker? Have fun beating the easiest boss ever that sometimes cant even fight back. They're too hard without the weakness, and too easy with them. This on top of the fact that obtaining the actual "things" still requires you to go back to town and actually turn them into stickers, which is even more backtracking.
For me, *deep breathe* The stupid looping castle levels in Super Mario Bros. The way you can't save SMB 2 and 3 normally. The 8th Episodes in Sunshine for usually way too hard for me. Purple Coins in Galaxy, especially when you die near the end. Odyssey had very easy level progression. I never liked how you could just not finish a kingdom because you'd probably collect enough moons to get to the next kingdom for how stupidly abundant they are. I found the backtracking in TTYD to be very tedious in Chapter 7. (I'm actually on a quest to beat every Mario RPG except for the bad ones. Up to Super Paper Mario and Dream Team.) Other than that, most of the problems in the video I agree with
I absolutely love Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is a close second, I can see you’re point with the green stars some of them are definitely a nightmare to find I guess it just depends on the player. But I definitely agree tgat leaving the level constantly is a pain. It’s a shame it couldn’t be like Toy Story 2 on PS1 where when you get a token(or whatever they were)you could leave or keep exploring that level for longer it would be a perfect fit for these games.
1:32 why does nobody ever mention that there are several levels in the original super Mario Bros that are completely identical to one another. Especially when you actually beat the game and play the star mode or hard mode. 1 - 3 is identical to 5-3. 1 - 4 is identical to 6-4. 2 - 2 is identical to 7-2. 2 - 3 is identical to 7-3. 2 - 4 is identical to 5-4.
I think the worst part of woolly world is trying to find the blue shy guys at the final level, i legit thought coop was required to complete the game. You had to find the blue pipe and take a dive of faith and swim towards the left wall in order to find a secret area with the blue shy guys
Partners in Time is a game where people would find either frustratingly difficult or stupendously easy, with me seeing it on the easier side. I can see where people are coming from when saying it’s hard though
9:09 I get it, but lucky my 10 year old brain remembered about the homing ground pound and took only 1 attempt. (I was so proud of it couple of years later when I learned people were dying a lot from it)
For me the worst thing in Mario Sunshine is the Bowser battle, all you have to do is pound these flaps around his pool and that's it you beat him, Nintendo is trying to rick roll us!
Paper Mario the Origami King is a creative game, turning battles into puzzles. However, getting every coin in Eddy River, the shuriken minigame, and Shy Guys Finish Last are terrible parts of a great game.
You forgot Super Mario 3D Land. Super Mario Bros 3 really is crazy hard and Yoshi's New Island has too many Kamek battles. The Origami King is flawless in my opinion. When is the next Paper Mario TTYD comparison video?
The WORST Part of almost every 3D Mario games are these: Super Mario 64 camera, Sunshine bugs and sometimes being too hard to be Mario game, Galaxy 1&2 Green Stars, 3D World the real Final course in space that's so hard and Odyssey too many collectable Moons and secret Moons, but even how a 3D Mario games have those WORST Parts I've always LOVED a 3D Mario games more than a 2D Mario games of corse I like a 2D Mario games too because New Super Mario Bros DS was my first ever played Mario and Nintendo game of all time I like New Super Mario Bros Wii, 2 (3DS), U and Wonder too and no matter how much WORST things Mario games have they are my favourite games because I've grown with Mario games defienitily Bros DS, Wii, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2 and this video is good because it's about Super Mario: Here we GOO WAHOO! 😆
I dunno if this is a hot take or not but I love Super Mario Sunshine so much and I absolutely agree with what Nin10doland is saying. I have never collected the blue coins but I do have every non blue coin shine. I didn’t find the balloon shooting that hard or the lily pad shine I beat them in like 3 deaths. However, pachinko is broken and it’s so funny and what’s kinda stupid is that I found pianta village 8 (fluffy festival red coins) to be the mission I died the most times on other than the boat on corona mountain.
I understand what you said about Galaxy. Personally, I like the star collection system, and the way Mario controls. If I had to pick something I didn't like about it, it would be that you have to fight Bowser to unlock the Purple Comet, which means that if you are going for a 202% run, you have to do the final Bowser fight a minimum of 4 times.
my opinion: (mainline games) smb1: you can’t go backwards in levels. smb1.5: you have to beat the game 8 goddamn times without continues to access the final 4 worlds! smb2: you go back to the very beginning when you get a game over. smb3: no save system. sml: mario’s physics. smw: you at most die in 2 hits, even with a power-up. sml2: the final level has six sections and you go back to the beginning on a game over. sm64: the camera. sunshine: aggravating jank. nsmb: the blue shell is too vital. smg1/2: the slow pace. nsmbw: impressively uninspired. sm3dl: lacks personality. nsmb2: barely does anything different from its predecessor. nsmbu: aggravatingly boring in so many ways! sm3dw: poor depth perception. maker: the community levels. odyssey: WAY too many power moons. maker2: the maker. bowser’s fury: it’s really really short. wonder: the bosses are underwhelming.
Lost Levels: It's too similar. SM USA: It's too different. The actually worst thing of LL, is thst it's just really badly designed to be unfairly hard. Also being so different is a good thng abou SM USA
The worst part here in Brazil is the price. A Nintendo Switch costs R$ 2300 (US$ 420). People here earns about R$ 2000 (US$ 365) each month. So, yes, you work a whole month and still cannot buy a Nintendo Switch. And the games costs R$ 350 (US$ 64) each.
Here are the worst parts of the mainline Mario games in my opinion: SMB1: No continue system. SMBTLL: Worlds 9, A, B, C, and D. SMB2: The World 2-1 softlock. SMB3: Finding the White Mushroom Houses. SML: The screen size. SMW: Lack of power-ups like the three Suits and the Super Leaf. SML2: The soundtrack’s confusion regarding naming the main world map, ground, and athletic songs. SM64: I agree, the camera stinks. SMS: Those dreaded Blue Coins. NSMB: How not everything is 3D. SMG: HER… (Y-you know who I’m talking about.) NSMBW: The beginning of the “Mario Mandates”… SMG2: Lack of a story. SM3DL: Overreliance on stereoscopic 3D. NSMB2: The aptly named Impossible Pack DLC. NSMBU: If you followed ayyk92 on DA, you probably know what I’m talking about… SM3DW: HER (AGAIN)… SMO: The gosh-darned ENDING! (Spoilers if you haven’t played from start to finish.) SMBW: Not enough boss variety.
The worst parts of Bowser's Inside Story to me are not having a world map when playing as Bowser and having to press select to open the map, (DS only), how long it is, but most importantly, once you beat Bowser's bosses you can't fight them again like Mario and Luigi's
If I made this then i would've done this in order so after Mario Land 2 is Yoshi's Island after Yoshi's Story is Luigi's Mansion after Super Mario Odyssey is Luigi's Mansion 3 or Yoshi's Crafted World... etc...
You missed Yoshi Topsy' Turvey/ universal gravitation, But here's my flaw on it: too many "collect coins" missions, made me feel that some of the later spirits got pushed to the wayside when they only had 2 worlds to show up in, ((spirit of kindness and spirit of fright))
i actually like the prankster comets and trial galaxies of galaxy 1 even though they are hard. the bootout system works there since all stars require you to travel far into the galaxy and the levels change between each star. i also think super luigi galaxy is a better postgame than galaxy 2's green stars even though grandmaster galaxy in 2 is a much better final galaxy than grand finale galaxy in 1. ive only collected all 120 green stars in 2 seven times out of all hundreds of times i have played galaxy 2. i absolutely agree with you that flipsville galaxys third green star makes flipsville galaxy the worst galaxy in the game. world 4 in general is my least favourite world in galaxy 2. i also think world s is a really shitty special world with only imported levels from previous mario games and the new and original galaxies in that world are just so infuriatingly difficult. the special worlds in 3d land, 3d world and odyssey are much better post game content than world s and the green stars in galaxy 2. when we get to the green stars, that's when the bootout system becomes really annoying. it works for the gold stars but not for the green stars. im glad 3d worlds green stars dont boot you out or the power moons in odyssey or cat shines in bowsers fury. you actually dont need to complete every level with all five characters to unlock champions road, you only need one of the characters for each green star, stamp and golden flag pole. its in 3d land that you need to get all golden flag poles with both mario brothers to unlock special 8-crown. im glad you only need half of odysseys moons to unlock long journeys end.
You discussed Inside Story, Dream Team, & Paper Jam but didn’t list STARLOW as a terrible element? She’s such an annoying CHR that’s also a jerk to Luigi for no reason…
Id say the issue with Super Paper Mario is that the game design doesnt mesh with the mechanics. You have the four playable characters but Mario takes the most importance and plenty of times you'll switch to a character for one thing just to go back to Mario for his 3D gimmick.
Come on, the green stars are great. They make you put skills to the test that most other Mario games don't make you do outside of speedrunning tactics.
The worst part about Sunshine for me is the fact that I keep getting walked by the FLUDDless stages. Maybe I just can’t adapt to Unreal Engine 2, but I can’t pass the second secret of Bianca Hills or the first Secret Stage of all the other levels. As for Galaxy, Luigi’s Purple Coins takes the number one worst spot for me. Not even the gimmick levels or daredevil comets killed me as much as that mission.
Just don’t 100% a game you don’t want to. It’s not that hard. Yea some games have things locked behind 100% but some don’t. Like Mario 3D world. If you don’t beat the game with every character you can still get to the star world and beat all the levels
The worst part of Yoshi's Island, and I'm referring to the GBA version, are the secret levels, they are terribly designed. 1, 2 and 4 are fine, 3 has that ridiculous set of requirements at the end, 5 is confusing but kind of rewarding to figure out and 6 lasts an eternity
And don't forget to ground pound the one stake at the beginning of secret stage 6 or else you'll be doing it all over again! (Proton Jon found this out the hard way)
I don't know if anyone else has this problem but my least favorite part of kingdom battle is the third area because random objects would glitch around the world and get in your way all the time
I HATE the missions in Galaxy 2 where you have to kill all the enemies on a time limit. I never 100%'d Galaxy 2, and since I've recently been playing the game to 100% it, it's not me remembering wrong, it's the game being too hard (or skill issue idk)
Worst part of every mainline Mario game: Smb: controls Smb2 (lost levels): level design Smb3: controls Smb2 (USA): I don't like this game at all 😅 SmLand: length SmWorld: just the Star World SmLand 2: too easy Sm64: camera (and some missions) SmSunshine: some missions Nsmb: bosses NsmbWii: bosses SmGalaxy: some missions are a little annoying, but I truly love everything else about this game SmGalaxy2: story is a little too simple, but overall same thing as 1 Nsmb2: too easy NsmbU: bosses Sm3DLand: boring visuals Sm3DWorld: bosses SmO: some missions are slightly annoying SmWonder: bosses Galaxy games are so good
The one problem I'm having with super mario galaxy I got 120 stars but it won't let me do the purple coin challenge at the star festival at the end for switch has this happened to anyone else 🤔
worst part of SMB3 is definitely the fact you can’t save your progress I know NES is very limited but seriously don’t you think it’s frustrating when you gotta turn off your console to do something else, then come back to restart everything
Aside from the blue coins, atrocious 100% completion and how buggy the game is, the worst part about Sunshine are the levels & missions as they are the most obnoxious, repetitive & annoying challenge out of any 3D Mario games that leads into some unfair & bad difficulty curve and the fact you have to progress by doing all 7 main missions in each world to get into the final level of the game instead of just collecting this amount of Shine Sprite you only need is absolutely tedious.
You should definitely do a best part of every Mario game video to balance out this one I enjoyed this video very much btw however i think I'd like a best part video even more especially to see if any of your opinions are the same as mine
