I think one of the cruelest parts about the Rakghouls was that they didn't just die out they were able to breed; so really ever aspect of their being was violated by the Rakghoul Plague.

I'm doing the Rakghoul event on SWTOR as I watch this. Finally unlocked Dr Lokin as a companion on my Bounty Hunter. Dr Lokin figured out how to control his own case Rakghoul plague, which is why his recruitment quest is called A Kindly Old Monster, but sadly he never figured out how to replicate his success. He's a part of the Imperial Agent storyline, but Knights of the Fallen Empire messes with companion dynamics and allows you to gain companions previously tied to a specific class. Dr Lokin's recruitment/rerecruitment is particularly onerous because there is a section that must be done during a Rakghoul event, however he isn't important to the plot of KotFE/KotET, so it's not an impediment to the story.

Read the book Death Troopers where the Imperials had experimented on a form of the Rakghoul plague. The story is quite gorey and has a Dead Space feel to it.

When you realize that the Rakghoul Pandemic on Taris was eerily similar to the current pandemic.

Some of the force sensitive rakghouls actually managed to if not retain a bit of sanity then at least become fully sentient again after their transformation. I dunno if that still counts as a fate worse than death, some of those guys were pretty cool. Also I still think the virus that stripped the force sensitivity of the entire Rakatan species deserves honorable mentions, it may not have directly killed them but it wrecked their entire empire.

The Rakgoul plague is the most famous as it was in KOTOR the second best Star Wars game, just behind KOTOR 2 TSLRCM and is the one I recognize the most.
