ngl Meinfoo still being the best after like 4 gens is actually insane.

Mienfoo checks is a whole archetype in itself in LC, fighting resists like bug and poison usually have 2 or more mons that can check mienfoo. It's so crazy to me the type you would probably just assume have the best match up out of them three, being psychic types, have the worst imaginable match up because of knock off and u-turn.

Abra really carried this type in prior gens didnt it 😭

It’s been 3 years….

Honestly, the psychic type in general across the major formats has fallen off hard. There are plenty of Pokémon that are psychic type that are good, but it seems that they are succeeding in spite of their psychic type, rather than because of it. The only exceptions I can really think of is Galarian Slowking and Espartha. I think the main problem is the fairy type. It’s just better psychic type: it hits fighting types super effectively, and dark types super effectively, as well as having an immunity to dragon types. Psychic types only hit fighting in poison super effectively, are resisted by steel which is an incredibly common type, and completely nullified by dark types, which is also an incredibly popular type. Not to mention, it’s weak to bug, meaning it’s destroyed by U-turn. There is literally zero incentive to run a pure psychic type Pokémon, and I don’t think that we’re going to see one succeed in a long time, sadly.

Im doing an everlocke, which is basically the same as a nuzlocke except that I cam only use unevolved pokemon, which essentially means LC pokemon. Your videos help me greatly in my challenge run, so thanks for great videos like this. You actually kinda inspired me to do a challenge run like this. (Also, im playing on violet btw)

About Ice being bad; look at fully evolved Ice Types introduced in gen 9. 3/4 of them are banned from OU. Now in LC, different story and all but... Ice is absolutely cracked when built right

not particularly to do with lc but in general psychic has been having a mid life crisis since gen 2, it has no identity or function so it never achieves anything beyond being ok coverage or a good dual type for steel before gen 6. it was originally meant as a powerful neutral type that hit most things and had few weaknesses, then the gen 2 nerf gave it a bunch of crippling weaknesses and gutted it offensively, so now literally the only reasons to use it are to snipe poison or fighting types or resist fighting moves (which is useless since CC chunks most psychic types and they all run knock off), as well as resisting itself which isn't exactly hard to do. it's similar to what happened to dragon except dragon needed the nerf more thanks to 140bp draco and outrage, they only added 1 type to balance it, and dragon still had a lot of amazing defensive traits. if you looked at the types out of context i'd probably call psychic the worst in the game, ice and rock are amazing offensively, poison is solid defensively and checks fairy, bug is solid for switching into physical attackers and nice for coverage, psychic by comparison has no positive traits that set it apart besides a lot of powerful mons that really hate being psychic. even with insane moves like expanding force and stored power, and how ridiculous psychic terrain is, it's still more of a liability than anything

This feels like how fighting types are just ass in gen 1 even though the best mons in OU are all normal type. Granted psychic moves arent bad but the mons that run them are, just like literally every fighting type in gen 1

typically for in LC ill counter meinfoo with either flying (wingull) or fairy (snubbel). ive found that psychic fangs snubbel is neat to run since you can clear screens

“And maybe poison” Bro I take offense to that since Poison has tons of great traits and several Poison types absolutely be worse off without the Poison typing. It was only bad overall in Gen 1, but otherwise it’s a decent enough offensive type and a really solid defensive profile.

What you said about the worst types for "most tiers" being Ice, Bug and maybe Poison sounds extremely odd to me when Poison is easily top 5 defensively and Bug is nowhere near as bad as people generally claim and both have solid representation in the upper tiers, meanwhile Rock and Normal are almost non existent in said upper tiers because of how awkward they are to incorporate in a team with their defensive synergy, most of those present do so mostly because of having some really high stats or broken tools (Garganacl would legit be banned to Uber if it were a Ground type for example, as it stands it's just decent). Sorry, had to take it off my chest, I think that Rock and Normal don't get nearly enough bad rep despite how terrible their profile is

The psychic type is not useless were just misunderstood. Trick room carries hard if your that worried about being outsped by the opponent just set up a trick room. Mienfoo can U turn and fake out all it wants but if i have a Pokémon that knows trick and is holding a toxic orb its joever. I may not be an LC player but I'm not going to be outclassed by a Pokémon that I should easily handle by just thinking about launching it across the room with telekinesis.

wait really? is ice and bug still bad? i thought fire and rock would be scarce enough to make those types shine, esp bug with its ground and fighting resistance and the introduction of life orb tinted lens nymble. i haven't played little cup before though. is nymble like camerupt in adv ou where it looks good but it just doesnt have the stats to back it up?
