The same thing happened to me while I studied German literature... I had so much to read for my classes that I lacked the energy for reading books in my spare time. No that I'm done with university I started reading for fun again and I love it.

My go to against reading slumps : - Re-re-re-re-re-[...]-reading "Le Petit Prince" -Reading a new Nothomb's book. I like to do these because there are short books, quite easy to read. It helps me going through longer books, when I feel bored and I need a fresh story

Hi Andrea! I know what you mean about hitting a reading slump and I'm slowly overcoming it after and intense period of Netflix bingewatching. I decided to make a list of at least 15 books I'm looking forward to reading before this year ends. All the best from Mendoza, Argentina!

Some time ago I had a similar situation: I was having a hard time getting back on track to read. It helped me a lot to see a person in the office, an assistant, who every day, a little before starting to work, took her book and read, I don't know, 4 or 5 pages. Seeing this person's ceremony induced me to imitate her and indeed, slowly, some time later I was back on track. So, it does help to be close to other readers.

While I was finishing writing my second book I fell off the reading wagon and struggled to restart once done. I tried and gave up on so many books it was so strange but it was the next instalment of a series I loved that helped. Audiobooks helped too. I can’t reread books unless there is 10 years between reading and then I rarely do it. (Yet I rewatch films and relisten to audiobooks) convenience is key hence I bring kindle everywhere. Thank you my attention span during relax time is bad - tv rarely keeps me occupied these days. So relatable good video x

Great video Andrea!! I can relate to that so much!!! I've been a bookaholic almost all my life but I had a HUGE reading slump that started at the end of high school and it lasted almost 2 years. I was such a book nerd when I was a kid that I read almost anything and everything from the age of 6 years old to 16 years old (I remember reading Chrétien de Troyes at 12 y.o and Agatha Christie around the same age). I was so much into reading that I specialised in it in high school and university of course and that's when the overdose came (I was reading too many classic books for class and couldn't read anything else at home). The Harry Potter saga saved me when I was 19-20 (I'm much older than you are, I'm 34) and then I managed to read everything and anything again! The end of my bachelor's degree went well and I kept reading fantasy novels + classic novels. Now I'm an English teacher and I vary my readings as much as I can: going from The Hunger Games to Pride and Prejudice but also Harper Lee (that I just finished) or even Shakespeare when I feel great! You're right, reading slumps are difficult but I can guarantee that I did exactly what you advised in this video and it helped so much getting back on my feet! Thank you so much for this very interesting video, as usual!!!

An English teacher in my high school heard I was planning to study English in the future, she actually told me not to go for literature because it'd destroy my love for reading and writing

Even as someone who isn't really much of a reader, I can relate! I think minimising distractions definitely helps; I go through phases when I'm really addicted to my phone, and I've found that this app called 'Forest' is really helpful - it cost me £1.99 and it grows you a little virtual tree but it can only do that if you don't quit the app! Also once you've grown enough 'trees' they can plant you a real one somewhere in the world! It's really satisfying once you get started 😅 it also really helps when I'm trying to get loads of work done at uni! (#notsponsored 😜)

PS. By the way, have you seen The Affair on Netflix ? It's about a prestigious writer and his quite intense love life and career. I absolutely recommend it. This August 25th starts the last season. and I can't wait to watch it!

No, I haven’t seen it! I don’t think I’ve even heard of it. I’ll have to look into it 😁 Thanks for the recommendation!
