*THE COLOSSEUM 2!?!? INCLUDES BATTLE ROYALE! REVIEW AND OPINION (DANGEROUS) 😨😨😱😰😰😱😨😱😱😱😱😱😱😰😰😱😱* But the real question is how it would be your channel if we would be Romans with social network 🤔
It's no wonder that Jesus Christ's message of "love one another" was seen as dangerous and radical if this is what the common people back then enjoyed as entertainment.
@@donboldon3104 All LIFE is violent and wild. We are becoming smart enough to understand its beauty with scientific understanding and appreciation. Like the original atom in physics, but with much bigger molecules.

There was one story where a slave defeated a higher class warrior and the crowd was so dissatisfied they ran into the arena and ripped the man apart either their bare hands.... absolutely brutal
@The vectors That's like watching your favorite wrestler lose to a jobber. People have changed the rules so the person they want to win actually wins. People claim they like upsets but they don't.
DiverseJoe what are the lower degrees? It’s crazy how having a small amount of intelligence creates this sort of behaviour, but more intelligence lessens this behaviour.
Sadly not even close to one of the highest degrees of disrespecting life. At the time, if anything the Colosseums were a way of celebrating life... just not the poor saps who were part of the show.
Didn’t A Lot of People, LoL, Ok, Some People Then, ie. Gladiators, Take It As A Huge Honor And/Or Responsibility To Actually Fight and Die In The Games Though?

Well, Seneca, the poet who talked about facing death on without fear and accepting it, drank poison and cut his veins while in a hot tub, thus denying Emperor Nero of his execution. He was very brave too😂

@@KimiiiRaikkonen exactly, it's human nature to enjoy violent things, I can see how it would be entertaining FOR THE ROMANS, not for me tho, I'm js that I understand where they're coming from, especially back then when dogma rules and you're not supposed to question anything
Imagine how much we grown. Fighting lions to throwing footballs. *AT HALFTIME WITH NO JUSTIN BIEBER OR GIGANTIC ELEPHANTS DANCING OR SINGERS LIKE THAT CRAP*
The thing was that it would have been really embarrasing to die like that,in front of thousands of people cheering if i'm going to die anyways might as well go out on my own terms then giving them the satisfaction
There are actually two still-existing colosseums where these kind of brutal activities took place...the one in Rome, and the one in Tunisia (called El Djem Colosseum)
I guarantee that if you somehow recreated this now, you would get full stadium. This may be brutal, but lets be honest, men fighting to death is hella exciting.
The worst thing that happened was the Emperor was killed by a gladiator who was a former general, even if the Emperor wounded the gladiator prior to the fight.
Peter the Panda the movie isn’t historical correct. Macimus (protagonist of the gladiator) never existed. Commodus was killed in his bathroom by his fighting teacher after it came to his knoledge that he was in Comoddus death list.
You'll have to excuse the ignorance of the above two commenters as they have as much intelligence as they have humor /r/whoosh. Seriously, who tf tries to act like an authority on a subject they can't even spell?!? I got the joke and thought it was funny
@@evanosburn718 I didn't see it as a joke, and it's not uncommon for people to mistake entertainment for actual history. There is nothing wrong with being mistaken, but I guess I should let him know that he's wrong. In adittion my first language is not English, I misstyped maximus for macimus by mistake (c and x are next to eachother in my keyboard) and noticed as soon as I posted the comment. I also study classical history so I wouldn't call myself ignorant on the subject.
I feel like i remember hearing that an emperor sent a whole section of the crowd of the colosseum into the ring and made them fight. Something like they weren’t cheering loud enough for him maybe. Does that ring a bell for anyone or am i making this up?
I know this comment may trigger some people. It seems that some people does not fully understand the topic about Roman Colosseum....First the so called "Roman Colosseum" in the video is Amphitheatrum Flavium or Flavian Amphitheatre/Colosseum in english which is located in Roma. However there were totally 230 amphitheatres/ Colosseum widely scattered around the area of the Roman Empire. Most of them is in western province of the empire, for the eastern part of empire, because of the population and culture were mainly dominated by Greeks and Greeks enjoy drama and chariot races. Therefore, you mainly see chariot Circus and theatre in eastern part of empire, which means that gladiatorial game were only popular in western province. The empire would not throw innocent people to feed animals, the only people were in was really really bad criminals. For the gladiators, they nearly never fought to death as gladiator were seem as idol, superstars like todays MMA and WWE star to the people. The death rate of gladiator is about 5%,the only unlucky who die was mainly due to botches and accidental kills.Of cause,if tthere is some evil and bloodthirsty emperors ,human eating and ancient battle royale will surely happen.During the later year, since Roman empire fully adopted christianity and lack of money of empire,Roman people were disgusted by the brutality of the barbaric games, they rather go to church and watch chariot races. The Colosseum became a public market for people to buy daily necessities. Christianized emperors officially forever banned all type of games and event seen in the past as it violate the core value of bible and christianityand detrimental to social atmosphere. (Although there is still record of gladiatoral game in early day of byzantine empire/eastern roman empire as the eastern empire successfully reclaim Italy and destory the ostrogothic kingdom in about 523 AD) How you learn something from this:)
Honestly, August said "bread and circuses" meaning that to have people by your side you have to give them bread ( he was giving it to poor people living in Rome ) and circuses ( you have to make them happy and distract them from other problems )
Nope, he said it correctly. Look at the sentence, he mentioned plural animals. 5:40 "the favorite animals to be killed were… lions, tigers, and bears, elephants, ostriches,…" everything is plural and so is "Hippopotamuses" (which you spelled wrong).
Actually it was quite rare for gladiotors to die in a match. Fighters (or referees) could stop the match if they wanted, and take the loss. Fights to death were likely to happen and the end of the gladiators career, as they had at that point already brought enough money for their owners. We also know that there are few times when the crodws got very angry as legend status gladiators killed each other, becouse people loved to see them fight.
Time But how often do people die gruesome deaths in those fights. I would rather be beat up by andre the giant than be slashed and stabbed with a sword or spear.
Saying "Humans still like it" would be far too much of a generalization, yes lots of people enjoy it but not all. Personally i find sports such as Boxing pathetic as i feel like they are excuses to be allowed to fight people without consequences, I don't see anything enjoyable about it. Shame that many people still enjoy watching it though, I really can't understand how 2 or more people fighting is even a little enjoyable. Luckily the level of violence is changed though, I'm glad that humanity in general has developed and stopped going crazy over fights in excitement to the point where people fight to the death.
One thing that's really important to remember about gladiators is that it was super rare for them to die. Not for any moral reasons, just because they were extremely expensive to train up and use in the arenas. However, one of their duties were that if it was their time to die, they were to be examples to Romans on how to face and accept death with Roman honor. Also side note, gladiators were fat because it's protection for internal organs. *The more you know*
It's got nothing to do with "gladiators" genius. It's obvious they would slaughter people for practically no reason. Listen to the account where the guy had his most beautiful woman fight to the death....for being beautiful. No, gladiator deaths were rare sure but being a non criminal and dying Ng in the area was obviously more common than anybody actually thought.

I had to write a 15 page paper on Roman amphitheaters for a college history class, and it was not east. I will admit I was not expecting your video to be so in depth. The background research for this video was very well done. Bravo!
Prometheus didn't create the humans, Epimetheus did. Prometheus gave them fire to help them survive because they didn't have any other defences like flight or speed
The greatest weight I feel this episode has is towards the end. When you are confronted with the idea of being eaten alive. Chocking yourself to death is no easy way to go...
