0:50 no, people are definitely still doing it. I was just at an academic research conference last week and saw at least two separate groups trying to film them.
No joke, one of my Spanish assignments had this trend's format as one of the prompts. Our vocabulary that unit was on healthy hobbies and hygiene so if anybody did that one, it would just be bragging about basic ass things that isn't even the point of the trend
5:14 why haven't you blocked this guy from commenting? He literally spams the exact same comment on every single reply. If he's not a bot, he has seriously ZERO life.
*I'm not updated on TikTok trends, of course I realise that this video ain't about the NPC Trend when I watch it!* Seriously, Jack's pose on the TikTok style screenshots on the main RU-vid thumbnail gived me "TikTok" NPC vibes when I saw the thumbnail in my feed.
the likes thing would be great for youtubers and youtube. it would drive engagement and youtube could sell ad space for more and youtubers would get better traction from that engagement
Tbh not a fan of the “likes economy” thing for RU-vid comments. I think it makes sense for something like Pithee bc any kind of “popularity” is rewarded based on merit, goes away over time, and users have to be more choosy/discerning with what they vote for. On RU-vid people will hit “like” on anything; it’s not nearly significant enough bc you have an unlimited amount of likes to give out, whereas with Pithee you’re limited in the choices you can make. (Edit: also the number of likes a comment has isn’t what gets it pushed to the top, the number of replies is - which is a whole can of worms in and of itself, but my point is that likes have very little value and I don’t think this kind of change would make comment sections any better than they already are.) I am a fan of the Pithee format and I’m excited to see where it goes, especially if you implement something like this. I think some visual variability could make it a more fun site to spend time on. (And if you’re still reading this, fuck YAIY. Bad idea. I’m not gonna comment on those videos bc I don’t want to give them more traction.)
