Yao grew up taught by his parents about this. Yes he would prefer to sit for some small and insignificant games, but he would never miss Asian games, Fiba world tournament and Olympics. You don’t understand how strong nationalism is in East Asia. I hated the Chinese basketball association for cutting short Yao’s career. In fact, one of the first things Yao did when he became the president of the association was making it clear athletes have the rights to not play for the national team.
