In trying to get last minute footage, joey self deleted by failing the time wizard coin toss for the first time lmao. EDS and WWE are definitely better than this
Once, while playing Eternal Duelist Soul, Marik used Delinquent Duo (which hurt, since I was using an Exodia deck) and lost because he paid more LP than he had. EDIT: I forgot the best part! I was so confused when it happened, and Marik himself asked in his post-duel monologue, "What just happened?!"
spirit message N on its own is WORSE than an exodia piece. At least an exodia piece can be summoned or used as tribute fodder. a spirit message can only be used as discard fodder
by the looks of it, the ai in this game works like this: if the ai can activate a card, it will activate it, zero strategy, its like a toddler hitting random buttons.
God i love this channel. Not only is this channel a hidden gem, it's hella insightful. You got yourself a permanent viewer at this point. I pray you get nothing but success man, and all your future endeavours with it. PEAK
Fun fact: Tea's Spherous Lady you see at 13:26 is a custom card made real by the original TCG. Its origin was in Dark Duel Stories where in its "combine mode" you could puzzle it together from random top/bottom shards you got after a win. There was enough variety to make *_9800 unique_* cards. You had 2 sets á 70x70 parts. One of them was "Spherous---" and "---Lady" with exactly what you have on the real card today. There were several others like this made real, but this ones the most prominent
I recently saw that a card from dark duel stores is now going to be a real card in the tcg as an illusion type. Which is probably a call back to those games lol
Oh man! This may be your best one yet! Not only are you able to tell where the issues lie, how to improve them, but your ideas for decks to suit the characters is such a fun idea! Thankfully Yugioh hacking has come so far, your suggestions can definitely be made use of by enterprising modders. The use of the anime clips is fantastic and add to the atmosphere of the video. Those little character intros are also a great way to naturally move from duelist to duelist. What a poor showing on Konami's part! I applaud you for soldiering through, I thought dueling 5 times was annoying, but dueling 10 times, and at other times drawing specific cards to unlock whole tiers of duelists? That's ridiculous! At least before it was kind of cute that you had to get Toon World first before Pegasus was available, but when you make that a main gameplay mechanic, then that's pushing it.
Thank you so much for watching! It took me a bit to get this video in order but i really wanted to make a video where instead of only addressing the issues about the game, what are ways they could have made the experience more bearable in one way or another. I do now question how the rest of the WCS games hold up since this one was widely seen as a decent game but as you saw, that is FAR from the case.
@@MrVovoda yeah but it's mostly on the memory i had with the game when I was 12 lol so my opinion can change but I remember that game having interesting decks for the AI at the least
The funniest part to me is the fact that I didn't even notice it at first. I was just in a shared screen call with my GF and she pointed that out and i knew i had to write that in lmao! Thanks for pulling up!
"The 60+ card deck with no sleeves and a rubber band holding them" I had a friend who had two 60+ card stacks in his bookbag and he had all of them taken away by our math teacher because they all spilled out when the rubber band snapped and he lost both decks He turned in his homework but teacher played Confiscation on him and took his cards 😂
This was the first Yu-Gi-Oh game I ever owned, and I spent SOO much time playing it as a kid. It was so much fun to me back then. Looking back on it, it was simple, but it was exactly what I wanted. Funny thing though, I was so bad at the game, I didn't get past the 5 default trainers till after I played the game as an ADULT. And I had it since it came out. Wish it was still that easy to find things fun.
It may be a bit more difficult to find the fun in things but i think a lot of it has to do with our standards being raised as time goes on. I think a lot of people including me had this as a kid but didn't get to far so we never got to see the game for what it truly is lol
I think the reason Joey doesn't have Exiled Force is because that card pretty much got ignored by the anime. Exiled Force has only showed up twice in the anime and it was in 5Ds. The first was the prison duel where Yusei is dueling against the warden with a deck made up of cards from the other inmates, and the second was some random guy that got possessed by the Dark Signers.
Could be the case in a world where there vision of the game was as far as the anime. I kind of doubt mostly cause of the decks of the higher tier characters
Yo this channel's a hidden gem. Someone playing those awful old games so I don't have to. Are you gonna go through all the handheld games? Cuz 2011 was probably my fav game ever and it'd be cool to see you eventually make it to that shining bastion of Edison-adjacent gameplay with actual mostly-good AI and creative, pretty strong decks.
My one good experience with this WC game was the main menu/deckbuilder theme was pretty good, but then after struggling for 10 minutes trying to make a deck and having no idea what to do to unlock more duelists I would just go back to playing anything else in the WC games.
I've been replaying Tag Force 6 and the AI targeting its own cards with MST is always hilarious (until your partner does it, that is), but MST targeting itself?! That's... dude, I can't even.
Well I found another weird exploit in the 2006 edition. If you give the AI a copy of The Agent of Creation - Venus or if they steal this card from your side of the field using Snatch Steal they will endlessly spam it's ability to summon a copy of Mystical Shine Ball for 500 LP until they only have 500 LP or less left. And at that point you can simply take down the AI with a simple burn card like Poison of the Old Man.
@@gameboylad - Perhaps though your ability to win with this strategy is a bit more luck dependent than certain people might like for a deck farming for points to buy other cards or purchase booster packs. Though it's still less luck dependent than exploiting this glitch to burn yourself down to 500 points and then use Reversal Quiz to blow up a set copy of Black Pendent or Fuma Shuriken in order to burn the enemy to death. After all, you can make an entire deck comprised of a single copy of The Agent of Creation - Venus and a bunch of spell cards. So you'll always be able to guess what you'll reveal when you activate Reversal Quiz.
Man I remember grinding these games SO hard as a child because I loved Yu-Gi-Oh! But the whole time I was bored to death. Love your channel. This is some insanely high grade content. Giving you a sub + twitter follow etc. Keep up the amazing work 😊
I first played Worldwide Edition and it was really fun, than I played World Championship 2004 and it was sloooow, it felt like duels took forever, funny thing is even if you play it on an emulator and speed it up, it would still feel slow
@@gameboylad oh I dont know, we have yugioh, very broken yugioh, but still yugioh none the less in this game XD. That alone puts it a step above some of the shovelware from the system, wouldnt wish that on my enemies!
The pack system sounds very bad in this game. Even Eternal Duelist Soul looks so generous in comparison, I managed to build a semi reliable Fusion/Meteor Black Dragon deck there.
Some of the best cards in the game are locked behind packs that only unlock if your win/lose ration against certain duelist is 80%. It's bonkers how under the radar this game is when it comes to bad card game video games
Konami actually had to make some Harpie support have really strong effects just to incentivize players to use Harpie Lady Sisters. Most still don't or keep it to one copy.
They probably should have a retrain for it or make a monster that needs them to summon something from the extra deck. I liked how they made it so you had to use pet dragon with a channeler back then.
Funny thing is, in Rush they completely ditched Sisters and turned Harpies into a maximum monster, each piece of which is also perfectly fine on it's own. Which goes to show how awfully designed Sisters were. Common Rush Duel W.
I still get ptsd of dueling Tea in the opening of the game. I never lost to her, but her life points would consistently hit 10,000-12,000 a game until i got proper removal, i could feel myself aging dueling her.
Took a while and this game doesn't help, but I'm glad to see a video of yours again, my man. This is one of the games I've skipped on the Yu-Gi-Oh GBA catalog and now I'm glad I did.
so unbelievably torturous... these are games i really wanted to like, but apparently the game just wanted me nailed to a cross at the bottom of the ocean
As a kid the most disappointing thing about this game was the lack of features and bells and whistles compared to eternal duelist, no character dialog, no calendar system, no events like tournaments, nothing to immerse the player at all. Even the music was lacking despite the Jump in sound quality. I got this game after losing my copy of eternal duelist and it just wasn’t the same
Only had this for my gba as a kid, then this got lost in my closet forever when my mom got me Emerald. Great vid, thank you for going through these old jank games, can't wait for the future of weird old yugioh games.
I beat this game like 2-3 times as a kid and really liked it lol. Never realized how grindy it was since you pretty much have unlimited free time when you're younger. It's a long shot from the best yugioh game but I have a lot of fond memories playing it. I still find myself randomly humming the ost all of these years later.
@@gameboylad My personal favorite is stage 6 and stage 1, along with the deck building one. Whoever did the ost on this game did a really good job imo, even if the game itself isn't the best.
I want to add that I played a magical thorns deck in this era of Yu GI oh. It's what I used to beat eternal duelist and worldwide addition. And looking at maric's decklist makes me want to cry at how terrible it is at that archetype. You can make a effective deck that proves why a lot of the hand destruction cards are banned. And even some of the not banned he somehow skips out on. Like bruh, just run Robbin' goblin which gives every monster you control the effect of White magical hat, and some monsters that can actually do something rather then that tiny 1000 monster. I never got far enough to fight maric in this particular game because by the time I realized the AI was cheating I was just done and clocked the heck out. I don't think I ever unlocked any of the tier 3 boozos.
What I find dumber about Harpie Lady Sisters is Konami seemingly trying to push us to use it with recent Harpie support, instead of making a better retrain of it.
There's a bug i discovered on my own where you can run a 14 card exodia deck by making a unlimited deck (you unlock unlimited by getting all the cards) Then you go in the options and turn limits back on. This will automatically remove all copies of cards you can't have in your deck. This means 3 copies of each exodia become 1 and so on. The game doesn't force you to fix your deck however due to being under 40 cards So the deck would become 5 exodia, pot of greed, graceful, painful choice, dark hole, sangan, witch, monster reborn, upstart, premature. Basically you could win first turn if you could summon a sangan reborn a witch and dark hole them both with 3 pieces of exodia in hand.
i hate this old game design where you have to battle the same guys over and over to progress. it should go like this: you duel one guy until you win once, you unlock the next guy and if you can beat the next guy, you unlock the guy after that and so on, giving you the option to battle the same guy to unlock more cards if your deck isnt good enough yet, but isnt forcing you to battle every guy 10 times+, thats just boring. the pokemon tcg game did this really well actually, just like i said, if you can beat everyone with shitty cards, you can keep going, also this makes it so you can win duels with skill alone and dont have to rely on op cards to win, thats boring, games like these are most fun if you have to work with what you got, thats the challenge of it.
Cannot relate to anyone being in favor of the OST. I feel pain from being reminded of the song played together with the light blue backgrounds. WWE's music slaps and it's a big reason why I prefer it over this.
I like the OST in WWE over 2004 but a lot but the music in this game is decent enough for me to keep it in the video at least. Sacred cards I left out a majority of that games OST lmao
@@gameboylad Oh, I didn't mean to critisize your video editing. Putting the corresponding music is absolutely fitting, even if I associate bad memories with it. No need to worry man, your videos are well made. And to be fair, WC2004 OST does have some earworm qualities to it.
Once you beat an opponent ten times, the requirement of having a card in the trunk but not the deck goes away. For example, once you beat Mai ten times you can duel her with Harpie's Feather Duster in your deck.
Great video; but when you talked about Ha-des it sparked a memory when I was younger: On the shop I used to play, people often call Dark ruler Ha-des it "The Jinzo killer". Due his 50 extra attack points and been able to just negate flips/searchers, he ruled supreme. Later we joke about Ha-des probably has a drinking problem and the reason he negates monsters effects in battle is because he has a massive hangover and doesn't want to deal with anybody's bs or the monsters cannot stand Ha-des terryble breath.
I remember buying this game when it was new because I was expecting something on par with Eternal Duelist Soul or World Wide Edition. I traded it in not even a few months later.
I watch this video like twice a month, I'm so glad I discovered your channel. I'm probably considered a yugiboomer and I love your intelligent insights on the mechanics and especially the themed decked. I can't wait for your next video, take care!
Surprisingly this was one of two old Yugioh games that I've never played (this & DDT), but oh man does this game seem like the epitome of Gamefaqs with those random requirements... What a banger of a video though.
one small ruling correction regarding goblin attack force. it;s effect does not activate on it's attack declaration, but rather at tthe end of the battle phase itself
Ah yes, Garoozis, my favorite Arkana card. Arkana must secretly be a Joey fan in the game Triple snatch but AI not playing them is hilarious, maybe the AI was self aware and knows how bullshit triple Snatch would be.
Found your channel last night, because this video was recommended. Today while at work, I watched all your videos. I'll be looking forward to all your new videos now
7 Trials To Glory much better. The post game is much more challenging being the mystic land and Mariks crew can be tough. Marik can summon Black Luster Soldier and Chaos Emperor Dragon too. The final dark tournament is hard because LP carries on the same after each opponents. However you have a great variety of deck building at your disposal. I beat the last tournament with Exodia.
Really glad I found this channel. Solid content all around and I’m really hoping you get around to my favorite yugioh game, Nightmare Troubadour. GOAT Format at its finest.
At some point for sure. For now i want to focus on a few non YGO games to celebrate and give vision to other card games and maybe after come strong with that game since it's a childhood favorite of mines
In North America, the promotional cards were Fairy King Truesdale, Kinetic Soldier, (actually Cipher Soldier) and Slate Warrior. In Japan, they were Emes The Infinity, D.D. Assailant, and Twinheaded Beast. In Spain, they were Exchange, Graceful Dice, and Skull Dice. Everywhere else, (France, Europe, Germany, and Italy) they were Valkyrion The Magna Warrior, Sinister Serpent, and Harpie's Feather Duster.
It's always a treat to see these show up in my sub box! Great work on everything so far and super excited to see the next in the series. Appreciate the time and thoroughness you put in to making a quality review. Keep up the great work!
Didn't give a voice for Grandpa's cut-in, 0/10 I'm just kidding, this was super informative! Found this channel while on a Yu-Gi-Oh binge since I'm trying to get back into the game- you've got some god-tier comedic timing!
I think I've watched all of your videos in the last like 3 days and I must say RU-vid did something right for once for recommending me your channel. I'm loving this content, I'm learning a lot of these older games I grew up with. you're very funny and that intro goes crazy. Keep up the amazing work bro.
Hey man just want to let you know that i absolutely love these long videos, i love your style, you can be mad successful on RU-vid man and i hope its all up from here. Keep up the fantastic content
Honestly i've played it and i didn't thought it was bad, the 2005 edition was way worse for me especially due to the banlist implemented in that game. However after i've beat 2004 i totally forgot about it up until today😁.
@@gameboylad These MF's talked about private shit and got so much money 1.89 Euro per minute. I even talked with these idiots about private stuff was only 12 years old and so naive. Man I got literally robbed by playing this dumbass game.
Great content, really like your style of calling bullshit design for what it is instead of trying to sugercoat it. But watching your videos showed me how lucky i was back then, playing Wwe but skipping this one, then Sacred Cards (at least it was beatable as a kid) and skipping Reshef. Looking forward to more videos :)
Loved the video bro, actually kept me hooked as an older Yugioh player who has fond memories of the older games (Eternal Duelist Soul will forever be my GOAT). Keep it up!
I went through your entire catalogue on this channel. I gotta say, you’re making some excellent stuff here my man. Keep goin’, I’m looking forward to your future content. Can’t wait for Duelists of the Roses.
Yeah I remember you saying that you might give the game a look and I hope the video convinced you not to waste your time with 2004 lmao. At this rate you can only hope your favorite developers don't fall into the yearly release trap.
This video feels so cathartic after being irritated by the back-to-back Raigekis as a kid, haha Edit: I actually forgot how useless gamble was, it would've made far more sense to include the dice rolls for buffs/debuffs and wouldn't brick the deck
When I was younger, for some reason I'd duel Tristan in this game whenever I was bored and I beat him like 999 times or something ridiculous like that like that honestly shoulda been a second beat the game condition just beat Tristan 999 times, great video as always, loved the persona 5 style character intros, very good vid, I hope destiny board traveler doesn't mess with you like this game did
I hear it's a bad game pretty often so I won't tackle it just yet but I honestly think it can't be worse than this lmao. Thank you for pulling up and watching the video!
Damn I was hoping this was the game I thought it was and I was right. I played this when I was super young and I had no idea how to actually do the deck building. This was my first exposure to actually playing Yu-Gi-Oh and not just watching it. Luckily I played some of the synchro era ones later which are MUCH better.
At the time it was ok most saw it as ok at worst. I thought it was a decent game until making a video on it lol. I think it has redeeming qualities like the music. But as a game I can't even recommend this to ygo fans
It sucks huge and hairy horse penis in game difficulty even with AI cheating. Reshef Of Destruction at least forced difficulty with the decking capacity limitations. I grinded the crap out of that game without much complaints. I still own the cartridge and 7 Trials To Glory.
My cousin gave me this gave me, and I have no idea why but I only liked the OST, and not really the story or “plot development “ even though its the same as EDS and I loved that game Truly a dumb kid I was
I think most people wrote this game off as an OK game. Me included. But after playing it fully I now question the rest of the WCS games. Thanks for pulling up again and watching another video!
The AI wasn't able to activate Snatch Steal in EDS and WWE either. They just somehow managed to make the AI worse in this game, but it wasn't much better in the previous two. It wasn't until WC2005 that they finally started giving us a competent AI and WC2006 has the best one by far.
I think at the least the AI was serviceable in a way in those games. far from good but it's ok for what it is. I think this games AI and the game itself is just abysmal especially compared to most other card battlers even at the time
Have you thought about trying yugioh nightmare troubadour ? I dont think you'd be able to make it into a 30m video but i'd pike to hear your thoughts on it
I plan to cover that game soon since it's a childhood favorite of mine. I'm working on capsule colosseum and that should be out within next week or after
bro you had dying 💀 damn I did not think the game was THIS bad. great vid as always tho man, it was pretty cool seeing your decks you made for the duelists. it's always a comfortable experience watching your vids in my spare time lol
Yeah this time around I wanted to see if I could show some solutions to the problem instead of just complaining about it lol it's easy to talk the talk but when you can walk the walk, it drives the point further
I remember winning my local tournament undefeated and winning the kanan the sword mistress prize card. My duelist dreams were crushed when I wasn’t chosen to go to California for the world championship 😅. I suggest doing the yugioh gx duel academy game! P.s that deck building music brings back memories!
@@gameboylad well it was based off wagering “star chips” with your opponent before each match, we all started off with either 5-10 chips and once you ran out you were eliminated. I only wagered one or two at a time and had 20-30 at the end. Maybe I didn’t wager enough to catch anyone’s attention at wherever the hell they picked and choosed 😓 regardless of being undefeated or not, I was 12 I wasn’t no gambling addict putting it all on red so to speak 😂
1:17:23 Oh man, you're going to hate World Champsionship 2008. Unlocking everything there requires something like 1,000 duels. You need to beat most opponents 5 times and there are like 150 opponents.
As sucky as this was for you to experience I feel so validated because I ALWAYS thought this game sucked ass! I remember some dumb friend I had defended it saying it was better because it was "new" and world wide edition was older but man I despised this game so thank you for helping me realize I was validated all these years later!
The fact that my videos have the ability to do this is a crazy good feeling. Games like this make you wonder what else was actually bad when everyone else passes it off as ok/good because they only played the first 2 hours
So, Those +500 ATK attribute Monsters (Bladefly, Witch's Apprentice, Starboy exc) are shockingly good in 04 because the AI does not take their Buffs/Debuffs into account when summoning monsters. Ive seen the AI summon monsters of the opposite attribute in Attack mode thinking they could hit over, only for them to get caught with their pants down as the debuff makes their monster weaker. And Ive seen the opposite, where they will play monsters that would hit over my monsters after the buff get played into defense.
I know it's about technical limitation stuff, but seeing blacked out card graphics in this hellhole of a system really adds up to the stress factor somehow
Another banger of a video Already hyped for the next one And loved the idea of remaking the decks to actually fit the theme. Also saw you using Duelingbook..........so duelingbook stream nights???????
Thank you for watching! Felt the need to at least shown solutions to the problems and not just complain about the problem. And nah. I have not dueled in the modern format since masterduel and I didn't like what I had to do to get to plat 1 when that was the highest rank lol. ( I played tri brigade and locked boards with apex avian and barrier statue with practically a full hand lmao what a game )
I remember getting this game at release, and, since internet guides weren't really a thing back then and the unlock mechanic wasn't explained at all, being disappointed that the game apparently only featured a handful of duelists.
yeah not to mention that even having access to the internet was a bit of a luxury. Thinking back to the years of me using the library to play runescape
Videos like this always make me realize how odd my childhood was. I think I had my first modem in 1994 at age six. So I HAD Internet access early to help with some of this weirdness.
Lol this is actually nuts I grew up only ever played this one and the music and gameplay are iconic to me. YOURE TELLING ME I COULDVE HAD IT BETTER THIS WHOLE TIME??
This was real nice to watch. I've been going through some of the ds games and really enjoying them. Genuinely impressed with the consistent editing through a VERY long video lol
I didn't realize how strenuous it can be to edit long form videos until I started to make them myself 😂 as long as it was worth the effort, I am satisfied
Awesome video! I once tested this bugged 'Luck' Stat that the AI has. I was once facing Yugi Moto and began to have the upper hand, Entered Main Phase 2, Used Acient Telescope and saw his next monster was a terrible normal monster, and somehow with no cards in hand, he draws his only copy of Raigeki to clear my board. In summary the AI gets a solution to anything you throw at them anytime you start to get the upperhand, It becomes even more evident with Duelist who have a high luck stat. Super infuriating and not very engaging.
