personally i'm one of those weirdos that actually likes the devils roar. it's not my favourite region but i honestly hate the wilds (mainly talking about the islands) a lot more than the roar. also tbh if i have a really bad pvp day or just cannot be bothered to chase or be chased across half the map, i just sail into the roar to make some coin and not have to worry about enemy ships as much (as everyone apparently despises the roar). and i feel like once you get used to the roar its fairly easy to navigate and deal with whatever rare throws at you there. but i also totally understand why so many people hate it. :)

Ever since the rowboat episode (when i first started watching), you have been such an entertainment and what inspired me to come back to sea of thieves and actually do my PL which i just finished. Thx for being an inspiration Cliff

I just introduced my friend to the roar with an ashen vault voyage. XD. We had found 4 outta 5 map fragments and of course didnt have the X yet. So we started digging on the island desperately. Eventually i decided to go sail off to find the last fragment while he kept digging. He dealt with constant phantoms skeles and crawlers on top of never ending geysers making it impossible to dig. I find the map fragment and sailed back and found the totem pretty quick. Its worth mentioning at this point that we were digging at fetchers rest. One of the only 2 islands in the roar where a vault is located. But of course the totem we dug up was for ashen reaches. All the way across the island. So we pull up to ashen reaches and its volcano starts erupting. So we sail out of range and i just fish while we wait for it to end. We clear out the vault of all loot. And began running it to the shore so we can harpoon it. Guess what? Volcano starts erupting AGAIN. and of course our ship is parked right next to it. So my buddy stays on the ship and constantly repairs it while i continue ferrying loot. Eventually it stops and we harpoon all the treasure and sell it at morrows peak. XD. It was peak roar experience.

Honestly, you are by far the best SOT creator and your channel is way too underrated.

That "random loot" was the result of someone mass canceling athena veil captains quests and despawning the shipwreck graveyard. A big bug a lot of people are abusing very often right now

One of my favorite memories in the Roar came very early in my career. Had no idea what I was doing or that volcanoes were a thing. Was parked at an island when the one on the island erupted. Spent an eternity simply cowering below deck on my sloop while bailing and repairing as I could. Too scared to try to reach the wheel and sail out so just sat there and took the rocks. Saved the ship I’m proud to say.

Oh man, the 'Roar. My first few days of sailing as a fresh-faced pirate with my friend who's played since day 1 but took a break at some point, returning in Season One. I believe it was my second week of playing and I was in love with the game, naturally so did the urge pop up for me to look deeper into what I can unlock, find, fight, earn, etc. And I had familiarized myself with THE BOX. Amazingly, we'd found it only a couple days later and while my friend had no idea what it was, I was hyped. My expectation on how rare it was was horribly twisted though because I thought "if this is the rarest thing in the game and I already found it, every other piece of loot must be around every corner, right?" haven't seen it since in a year+ of gameplay. On another note, even if I'm tired of the 'Roar from the Athena grinding to 20 before they raised the cap and introduced LotV, the area will always hold a special place in my heart.

I can explain the random loot and the athena sloop coming over. There was a glitch few weeks ago which allows u to pop a captain voyage of the legend of the veil then cancel it, and everytime u get a shipwreck the loot inside will float which creates a ton of loot in the water where the shipwreck spawned. The reason why the naked athena 1 sloop rolled over to u was because they were doing this glitch and probably knew that u have their stuff.

The random Athena stuff is a new glitch with the sunken ships, where if you keep cycling veils, it just spits loot out when the ships were, not sure why it’s in the devils roar though

As a merchant, whose only real interaction with the Devil's Roar is Morrow's Peak and the occasional map I found elsewhere, I can say I like the place well enough. It's saved my bacon a couple of times and I always like how easy it is to navigate to versus somewhere like Galleon's Grave.

The random loot you found was a cancelled shipwreck graveyard from the LOTV. If you cancel it the loot just floats to the surface

Btw 2 things regarding the veil. 1 it's possible for everything to take place in the Roar and not get ashen loot. 2. If you start and cancel the veil voyage, it just despawns the ships and the loot floats to the surface (patch pending)

I'm another bizarre player that enjoys the Devil's Roar. My favorite is using the geysers against the various AI enemies despite how annoying the geysers are otherwise. I was even blessed a few years ago with finding a Box of Wonderous Secrets! I was sailing with a new friend I had made just a few weeks before. He had only started playing about a month beforehand and I was still teaching him about everything in Sea of Thieves. On that day I took him for his first time in the Devil's Roar, teaching him about the many environmental dangers and the rich rewards to be found. Eventually we stopped at one of the smaller islands, likely our 4th or 5th stop when I had to step away from my PC for a moment as he went ashore. Once I returned, about 5 minutes later, he was barely containing his laughter, asking me to guess what treasure he found. Sure enough my first and only guess proved correct when he presented the eponymous Box. Certainly was a surprise, but a welcome one.

Spent all morning today running between Cursewater Shores and Brian’s Bazaar fishing, and scored two ashen athena chests the day before. All the while, nary a pirate came my way! One of the only ships I saw across two days was an athena galleon stacking all the loot the Roar had to offer. They were all too keen on alliancing rather than being pestered for their loot, and part of their haul helped carry me the last leg to athena grade 10! The devil’s roar is the place to be if you don’t want to be pestered by pesky or overly persistent pirates new to the seas.

YOOOOOO 6:10 that random bunch of treasure spawning in happened to me and some friends yesterday. I almost thought it was like a school of fish rare added or something, but once we got up closer it was all treasure. Super weird, not sure what caused it. We thought maybe it was a bugged out skeleton fleet, but seeing it the video idk what it is.

6:32 this happened to me yesterday a load of mermaid gems and skeleton captain skulls, as I was collecting them all they kept respawning until they all vanished!!

the only time I've ever been in the Roar was when firebombs weren't in the game and you needed the red lantern to activate the FOTD, so you'd have to find an active volcano and try get hit by it

6:46 that happened to me when you are at the shipwreck when doing a veil

The thing I don't get is how can people be so oblivious to all the signs that an imminent eruption is going to occur and then get so surprised once tephra starts spewing out. Especially if you're on a large island. The ones that always sneak up on me are sea volcanoes. I had one pop while I was searching a shipwreck...that was a close one.

Honestly, the best thing about the Devil's Roar is that most people (especially reapers) don't really go there. As if my obsession on Volcanoes wasn't enough to keep me sailing there, the only real downside are the geysirs once you learn to read the eruption signs.

At 6:30, if you start a veil of the ancients voyage and then you cancel the voyage the loot comes to the surface but you have to get the sunken ships mission as your first one, so people buy like 50 veil of the ancients voyages from the captain shop and then start it and cancel so they farm loot

This is why I love the Devil's Roar, if I'm elsewhere I get ganked by other players four times my ship size. At least in the Roar only person I can blame is myself if I die.

I've seen the scattered Athena loot bug before. Was doing a Legend of the Veil that took us into the Devil's Roar and for some reason the galleon graveyard spawns in the Roar will make all the loot surface save for the Veil stone.

I still remember one of my early excursions into the Roar, still learning the dangers. Had a encounter with a volcano, got ignited while patching holes, and instinctively splashed water on myself to put it out. Instantly died because my dumbass splashed boiling water on my face. Lesson learned, I guess.

Can confirm Devil’s Roar is still the worst. Figured what the hay and grabbed a random voyage. Got an ashen treasure vault in the Roar. Sure why not? Get to the island and notice someone else running about, looked like they left on their ship so I wait a bit and feel alone so I open my vault. Grabbed a nearby rowboat cause it was closer than where I could harpoon from and return to get my loot to find my friend from earlier who quickly introduced me to the Ferryman. [I'm not good at PvP, especially the sudden variety]. Rezzed to my boat finally which had taken a few fireballs from the volcano despite being pretty far from the island and sunk shortly after my return. Worst zone ever.

The forsaken shore, a place I like and dislike for many reasons. But here's an interesting story: 4 months ago me and my friend were still new to the game and on our second adventure on S.O.T, we went to "The forsaken shore". Not knowing the full dangers of this place, went to the nearest outpost, got some quests (treasure maps) and set off. After awhile we get to ashen reaches. His the funny thing, on the island my friend did all the work, while I was getting chased by skeletons, David Jones monsters and ghosts 😅. Finally when we got all our loot, we left for the outpost. But when we're passing a giant mountain, (aka a volcano), we got hit by something, died, black screen and after respawned, we realised, we got hit by a molten lava rock😱 from a volcano! I calculated the loot we lost? It Was about 15 or 20k (technically that's not alot, but when your a novice you think it is😅). P.s Awesome nd funny video cliff.

Ok but that random loot spawn happened to me and a friend last weekend! I have it clipped and everything, there was so many gems that it legged my game!

That loot drop happend to me last week on the west side of the map. So many gold bags and gems.

I saw that circle of loot! It happened to be when I was sailing to Golden Sands from Reaper's. It looked cursed and unnatural so I didn't touch it.

Mate the devils roar is fantastic, genuinly one of my favorite places to sail, and it honestly looks amazing

Actually I know about the athena loot basically your first 2 missions can be in the devil's roar if started on the East of the wilds or the Dr and if its a shipwreck and it gets cancelled or the timer runs out then the graveyard despawns and the loot floats to the surface including the gold pouches

I love the devil's roar. You know how many times I have been sunk by players there? 0 times exactly. It is for the most part, a pvp free zone, and as a solo player I frequent the area. Especially with ashen vaults. it is so much safer than anywhere else. If you are being chased, head straight to the devils roar and 50% of the time the chase ends there. Otherwise, sail to an active volcano and circle while dropping loot overboard. That makes them realize they aren't getting anything from you

That loot is a glitch where you can put down a bunch of Athena voyages and cancel them, if you look on RU-vid, you can find that method, it’s only 2 days old

Hey Cliff, apparently there's a bug with sword blocking going around That being... it apparently just straight up doesn't work. You can't block sword swipes from other players right now. Just had it happen to me today.

the massive floating lootpiles are a recently discovered exploit, to spawn one you need to sort through legend of the veil quests until you find one with a ship graveyard, and when you do, spam like 40 more of these quests and sail to the location you read in the first book

I will admit it has my fav outpost, because there is never anyone there because people properly don’t wanna risk getting caught in a volcano outbreak

When I first bought the game, I spent all my time in the roar. In the beginning, those voyages paid out the best. I still hate how many times I lost everything to a volcano, but that's just part of the roar.

Actually I know how that glitch happened with the Athena loot, if you start the captains voyage variant of the veil voyage and it's a shipwreck graveyard, then cancel it, the loot stays but the ships leave causing all the loot to float up to the surface

6:10 i had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday, i was going to an outpost to sell and saw trinkets like gilded chalices in the water, stopped the ship and there were tons of skulls, trinkets, mermaid gems and etc, i thought it was a kraken at first but there was no kraken food in the water as well as some of the items being too rare for a kraken drop, second thought was a skeleton ship but the loot was spread out across a very wide area, couldn't have been a player ship for the previous reason as well. maybe it is a glitch of some kind?

They should add an ashen variety of the Fortresses that fires firebombs on approach instead of normal cannonballs

finding that random loot in the water with all the athena stuff is not an accident, its a glitch in the game where you can spam vote and cancel athena voyage of the veil until you get the shipwreck ones each time you cancel a shipwreck voyage of the veil it leaves all the loot on the surface meaning 750k gold/hour

For anyone wondering about that massive pile of athena loot, it was people taking advantage of a glitch in the game. Cliff stumbled on it in the middle of them setting it up and got all the loot they had tricked the game into spawning. Not gonna describe how to do it cause rumor has it there's a banwave coming for players that abuse the glitch. Edit to add: Its actually super common in the devil's roar at the moment because the most consistent way of recreating it spawns the loot there plus you end up in an underpopulated part of the sea

Once me and my cousin was sailing in the Devils roar past a volcano and as soon as we came near it interrupted

The mermaid hems and the athena loot was a glich it did the same for me yesterday

I've only seen another ship once in the devils roar and it was a new player, you could tell by the way they anchored themselves at an island that had a volcano on it, the volcano became active and they were sank

There is indeed no ashen variety of the veil. But it WILL spawn the fortress and shipwrecks there. Fetchers rest almost sunk me while I was clearing the wrecks and the fortress was near ruby's fall. It's awful

I did a legend of the veil quest and my islands were only devils roar islands, just because it doesn't say ashen legend of the veil doesn't mean the islands aren't in use

I spend most of my time there grinding to merchand 50 before the lost shipment voyage and i stubble only on one box of wonderous secrets and I haven't found a single shrouded ghost in almost 3 weeks of combined playtime, it must speaks for itself concerning the rarity of those things

Once I was doing gold vaults in the devils roar with my brother, as we enter the vault my game crashes, and the volcano begins exploding, my brother starts rushing all the chest out and we only made about 40k and the boat almost sank :')

It’s the new veil voyage if you cancel and start it back up for the shipwrecks all the loot stays there but the ships despawn

The good thing about the devils roar is that the island as much as they can be a curse they can also be a boon if you use the environment to your advantage to conquer your enemies.

Oh wow, just yesterday my crew and I also came across a big pile of floating loot out in the middle of the ocean. Must have been around 400k of loot floating. We took what we could before it all sank.

The Devil's Roar ain't forsaken to me! I go there almost every session I play, just because I next to never see anyone there!

WHAT?!?! Devil's Roar is AWESOME! 😂😂 It used to be the perfect area to avoid other crews, but now adays a lot more boats seem to cruise the seas which is a bummer lol Fun to gamble if the nearby volcano will sink you or your enemy 😂

I've been to the devils roar a lot. To be honest its actually quite sad of fast I got use to everything. I also some how manage to dodge all the volcanos.

I remember getting the box before getting PL. We dropped it in the red sea and sent the screenshot in the official SoT discord. Was fun!

to explain the massive pile of loot seen at 6:20 in the video its a glitch involving LoTVs its stupid easy and ruins the grind to Athena 30 its a walk in the park now it still takes a while but its way safer and requires little to no skill you just need to be Pirate Legend thats it. i really hope rare patches this but for now this is the best way to make money and to level up every emissary including hunters call because of the massive amount of mermaid gems you get
