Saw this ship stuck on the beach while on holiday in the 1950s it was complete then, i was 10 years old, my dad said they tried to tow it off but failed, access to the beach to break the ship was impossible due to the cliffs, later that day at another beach i found a mine cutting float went dashing back to my dad quick dad i have found a torpedo , happy times.
banjobunny19 You saw her quite fresh then.. Seeing as she arrived here in 1947. Pity filming wasn't cheaper those days. I'd love to have seen a video of someone clambering aboard back then. 😐
Or an insurance job, not worth salvage so much scrap metal after the war, and difficult to get to, my father said there was an attempt to tow it off but it failed.@@Oske.images
Thanks for reply - yes probably some left over Nazi gold or paintings - wine and Champagne. Sounds all a bit odd to just sink like that with no attempts to salvage.
Following Mr Lawn is no easy feat.. I hear he's known as 'The Shadow' by some, and skulks around out of the view of decent folk.. (Apart from when he moons at people). So it's been said by an unreliable source from Poole.. Got a lot more than my feet wet.. Not been on this wreck since the early 80's.. :-)
