"Chats with Guitar Cats" Episode #1
I surprise studio legend Louie Shelton as we recall his younger years by pulling out a guitar like the one that started it all for him as Little Junior Shelton back in Little Rock Arkansas - a genuine vintage 1952 Fender Telecaster.
Like, subscribe and leave a comment if you would like Louie to do a RU-vid Live Chit Chat with me so you can ask him questions in the live chat room.

I have a 1952 Tele. The newer ones - even late 50s, don't compare. There's one reason why they are SO valuable. They are not so thin and spiky, although they are still like a Tele. They have wooden warmth, kind of a sweetness - as you can hear here. They tend to be lighter (not much paint or lacquer at all) and easier to play than many later ones.

Man I just love it when I stumble across a gem like this on youtube. I was one of the millions of teens that started playing electric guitars in the mid 60's, inspired by guitar playing like Mr. Shelton's on so many songs of that era. It's a gift he gave me and I still enjoy to this day very much. Especially now, when we are under stay-at-home orders. If it weren't for guitar playing I'd probably go nuts. Sincere gratitude to you Mr. Shelton. You did a really good job with this Rick, especially considering it was the first interview you did and an impromptu get-together. I was spellbound the entire video. Thanks to you as well, take care. I'll be watching for the next time you get together with Mr. Shelton.

James Burton, Albert Lee, Vince Gill, Chet Atkins, Louie Shelton. You guys are on MT Olympus for a reason. Its your gift you've given to all the rest of us, your incredible God given talent. Enjoy the view Louie you've earned it

Hi Rick. It was fantastic to meet you today at Gold Coast music. I am totally knocked out that you know and hang out with Louie Shelton.... what a legend! I have loved his playing for years and I've always admired the many styles and artists he has applied himself to. I am on the lookout for any gigs that Louie is doing around town as I've missed a few that I didn't know he was doing or I was playing a gig myself at the time. Thanks again mate for taking the time to chat to me today and I hope to catch you around sometime..... maybe even at a Louie Shelton gig! Cheers Wayne

@@paulas1man to be fair, this was when I was between 5 and 10 years old, years before I ever picked up a guitar. And Louie didn't visit regular- regularly...like every week or anything. There were just a handful of visits that I recall... probably 5 or so. Under 10. So the only lessons he could have possibly given me would have been a few basic, beginner ones. Like..this is an A chord..sort of thing.

@@lueysixty-six7300 I'm just kidding with you man. Louie is just such a nice guy, it would have been a thrill to have just been in the same room with him. My dad played in a band when he was young. I was 5 years old when my dad would be jamming on some Jimmy Reed and other old blues artists. It was great as I remember it with dad playing his 1964 sunburst stratocaster with a maple neck and an old tube amp. It was a good time, but dad was no Louis Shelton. I am sure you cherish that memory. Good talking with you

@@aliceshaw8265 It's either really all about the music or all about the money - no half way house really. Bit like dividing the sheep and the goats. Not feeling free to share is a big problem - it means you're not secure on who you are. In guitar everyone stands on someone's shoulders as the efforts of others have been played around us all for 70 odd years now. I'd like to think generosity of spirit defines the greatest musicians who've lived and worked among us. Some people are more generous with their time than with their money, for some it's the other way round. That's OK we can't always help who we are. However some people are generous with neither - don't be one, we all only get so much time to make the world a better place. I think Louis has well and truly passed that test. Bless him.
